Helmet:

That article is old and I can't find it, when an accident happened while climbing and such a helmet saved someone's life; probably it would have ended worse if he had had something like this:
http://www.kibuba.com/Plezalna-oprema/Celade/Odrasle?pID=6032 I think I have something similar, but if 10 kg falls down then it doesn't matter which helmetmrk pogled
These flying rocks, I've seen tons of them and already because of falling small rocks, say on Hanzova, despite others saying that you don't need a self-belay kit, don't believe them. Because once you get hit by a rock such a kit saves you.
If you plan to go in winter too then more gear awaits you; there I warmly recommend good gloves and a perfect jacket besides other gear (crampons, ice axe, pants...).

"zico10", maybe you don't know yourself well yet. I too about three years ago thought the same as you, that I won't do hard tours or God forbid think about alpinism.
And exactly that happened to me then.

Does that still hold with insurance tilia that they refund 15€ if you buy helmet or self-belay kit?

Regarding equipment intended for greater safety in the mountains, and even in some other areas, the note I read above, i.e. don't buy stuff with made in china labels, needs a bit of adjustment. Although "Chinese goods" is synonymous with proven poor or at least suspicious quality stuff, the fact is that lots of things, including mountain safety gear, are produced right there. So you can find that label on gear from renowned brands. Camp helmets, via ferrata sets, carabiners, quickdraws are all made in China, Black Diamond quickdraws, metulji... likewise. Mammut harnesses in Vietnam. For clothing the list of actual production sites would be far larger. Taiwan, Madagascar, India... Globalization has run us over. And why would a carabiner made in China, from material figured out in Europe, where the design comes from too and (at least occasional) checks, and tested by UIAA and has CE cert, be any worse than one made in Italy?

With serious quality firms there's no fear if products are made in the east. From the parent firm they set raw materials for production, the patent itself and shaping and also watch over final quality. Difference is just in production cost and resulting profit. Also all helmets for mountain biking are almost made in China and of equal quality.

I'm curious what climbing harness is best, how to choose the right one?

Depends on purpose of use (ferrata, alpinism, sport climbing...)

Roughly it should be comfortable and hinder movement as little as possible. For sport climbing very important that you can hang comfortably in it, so it doesn't chafe, cut you while hanging...etc.

And don't forget it's good if it takes up as little space as possible in the backpack and is light. nasmeh
