Ovčji vrh, which Austrians call Geissberg, is accessible from several directions. Today following the description from this portal, http://www.hribi.net/izlet/vgriz___ogris_ovcji_vrh_geissberg_direktna_pot/11/581/1015)od Ogris. On the way to the starting point, just note that the signs at the last intersection were down today; there you had to turn right, then keep your eyes peeled for the sign to Celovska hut. A small parking lot for a few cars is at the start of the marked path to Celovska hut and Ogris pasture; for Ovčji vrh there are no markings. The path, even on the demanding part that is described, is not problematic; it is partly newly secured, really nice and scenic. Snow on this side (where it might cause trouble) is practically gone; on the other side, after crossing Vratc towards Celovska hut, there is a bit more, but no issues except wet boots from it. The steep part to the summit is dry, views of the northern walls of the Karawanks (Palec, Zelenjak, Vrtača, Svačica, Jelenčki, Celovska spica, Stol, Vajnež….) are beautiful. Flowers are slowly blooming, Celovska hut opens from May 11 onwards. All day we could hear falling rocks from peaks and gullies, especially Vrtača. Well, now that much snow has melted, there is no real reason for anyone to linger there. Nice tour, it will take you 5 to 6 hours; if the hut were open, probably a bit more. Drive from Lj takes less than 1.5 hours. Crowded? Almost empty today.

On Saturday we dedicated the day to visiting Ovčji vrh, choosing Podnar (Bodenbauer) as the starting point, namely the direct path. We reached the village Žabnica (Bodental) without trouble, but there we found the right path to the starting point only with the help of locals. Since the children also decided to spend the day in nature, we chose this path so it would be a bit more challenging for the little one, as some easy climbing awaits us . The path is wonderful, and the exposed part is very well secured. Despite the peaks being wrapped in dark clouds in the morning, the sun accompanied us on the path. Only at the top did a dark cloud and cold wind spoil it, but it didn't chase us off the summit so quickly. We enjoyed the wonderful view of the northern walls of the Karawanks and it was nice to see several already visited peaks. From the summit we descended to Celovska koča, then slowly back to the starting point. There wasn't much visitation that day either, but we spent a wonderful day.

Today from Podnar past Celovska koča to Ovčji vrh. From the top you see Karawanks from Kepa to Eastern peak of Tolste Košute. Weather was cloudless and on descent already quite hot. Climbing part of the path nicely secured so no problems on the path. Nice!!!

On Saturday first time on Ovčji vrh. Ascent done from Podnar up the Lovska path to saddle Vrata then straight up to summit, from there descent towards Celovska hut, from there back to saddle Vrata and then along this described path to Ogris pasture and back to valley. Bodental valley somewhat reminds of Logarska dolina. From Ovčji vrh nice view towards Stol, Bielsčica, Celovska špica, Vajnež, Vrtača and Palec. Definitely a tour I recommend.

On Friday start from Podnar. Strong wind on summit. Path is marked/signposted so you can't go wrong. Austrians totally overdid it with the size of the cross on top. For those who can't manage long paths, I recommend just a hike to Ogris pasture. At Podnar obligatory Laško Club.

Laško Club they have only in small bottle, in large bottle only Austrian beer. I asked why, waiter said they have to support Laško a bit until it completely sinks , that Austrians drink only large beers .

Seems they ran out last time, so they restocked it, say the innkeepers.

When we arrived in Medvedji dol we weren't sure we were in the right place, parking lot full like a ski resort. Goal of the day was Geissberg, but it turned out a mistake on the way up, since across the valley we saw smoke behind skiers already coming down from Stol. On Geissberg not enough sun to soften the crust frozen overnight. So Puc and I put skins on below and climbed up scree under Stol and into the gully. Gully already quite tracked, on scree I found a completely innocent line through powder . Then the groomed road that takes you 100m from car. Scree under Stol was definitely the best powder this season HD video also on my Youtube channel: http://youtu.be/5yIReShGjZ8 28.2.15 - Sandra, Neva, Primož & Zoran

Yesterday after Vrtača and Svačica I descended to Austrian side and visited Ovčji vrh too, nice autumn weather, warm and windless, it was a beautiful day.
