The mountain is quite well-known (actually mass-touristy), so it shouldn't be a problem for someone who travels a lot in the Alps. But where was it photographed from?

Unfortunately not.
Here's another hint: neither the viewpoint country nor the one of the mountain borders Slovenia. Still, it's not that crazy far from us. Also the mountain from whose summit I took this is quite known and, at least locally, very popular. A gondola leads to the mountain I'm looking at.

That would be too far already. It's one of those two countries though.

The peak could be Santis. So really Appenzell. Switzerland. But it's viewed either from Liechtenstein - maybe Drei Schwestern or from Austria.

@turbo, you're right this time!
It is indeed Säntis. The info was that the viewpoint country is not adjacent to Slovenia. So it's viewed from Liechtenstein, specifically from below Gafadurahütte, on the way to Planken when descending from Drei Schwestern.
Since the riddle was a tougher nut than I thought, we'll overlook the inaccuracy in determining the viewpoint location.
