Golava

Today, 21 April, I was on Golava in the Zasavje hills. I have to say I underestimated the path and didn't think it was so hard and demanding. The path itself isn't long but extremely demanding and exposed in some places despite the safety gear. On the path I had incredible luck as I met a chamois, and that due to my curiosity about how to get to the top or a certain saddle via pathless terrain. I really got a bit "lost" on my own but it paid off. Let me say I was lucky that no rain caught me as I wouldn't want to crawl on all fours to the valley, that's the steepness, and I don't even know if I'd make it. So to sum up, nice but very demanding path, so let everyone think who goes on it.

Today 3.5.08 I visited the trail to Golava with a friend, which Starakapa described. The trail is indeed a bit more demanding than usual in this part of the range. Reminds me of the steep trail to Grmada (near Celje). The trail is not technically demanding, but caution needed (slip) especially in wet. Nice trail, at start some caution (markings) physically demanding (steep), if you loop it (Ovčja pot) - no return on same steep, nice experience. Not suitable for family trips (small kids). Trail start 7:30 parking 50m before house by road - return 9:45 no rush. Interesting trail - chamois tracks but sadly didn't see it (too much talking). Seems little visited and for hikers who don't like crowds in mountains. Recommend!!

Abandoned stable - in front of it left steeply up the hill1
We woke the sheep - behind the house up the hill further (markers) - here we also looped the circular path2
The path steeply climbs through the forest3

Farewell to the pleasant bivouac - clean bivouac interior9
The path descends steeply10
cca. 20m safety ropes - everything crucial on the entire descent11
Look for markers to Prebold12
Back again to the sheep, which are already more lively13
The path is looped - another cca. 15 min past the abandoned barn to the starting point14
The dog has good nerves (see path description) - 50m before this house you can park15

Today I was on Golava. The path is good, steep for pleasure, not dangerous at all. More dangerous is the dog in front of the house at the start (Strgar), as it obviously lost its nerves and there was no way to pass by. I recommend driving a bit higher and leaving the car at the sheep (Huš), and doing the aforementioned circular path (Zvonetova path ascent - Ovčja path descent).mežikanje

A little warning!!!
These critters (ticks) are currently extremely numerous in this hill area.
Today I had just a short walk (around Marija Reka), I barely cleaned them off myself.

Yesterday on election day I went to Golava.

I parked a bit above Strgar on the grass in front of the lilac hut. When I stepped out of the car and turned to the trunk to get the gear, 2-3 meters in front stood a German shepherd! eek We stared at each other for about 2-3 seconds then he went away. Obviously he was more scared of me than I of him. mežikanje I didn't see the dog at Strgar, but the owner couldn't mess with me like with klavdipa and others, I wonder that hikers tolerate this terror calmly and no one informs the appropriate authorities.

Then I tackled the steep slope. Since it was wet, caution was needed already in the lower part.

From the farm (halfway) onwards it first continues innocently with a fairly wide forest path, which soon shows the character of a demanding path and becomes concretely steep. Since it was wet yesterday plus there was fresh autumn leaves on the path, maximum caution was needed. This extended the path well beyond the time in the description. Due to the leaves, the path was also harder to follow and orientation had to be done mainly by markers and searching for passages.

Besides some additional belays on the path, it could also say at the top how to get back to Prebold, because on the same path even in dry not everyone goes back, in wet probably rarely any hero. The sheep path downhill is probably not suitable in wet either. Well, the simplest and in wet the safest path goes further along the ridge and in the end reaches Sv. Lovrenc (part of Prebold just before the end, viewed towards Trbovlje). From there it is about 3 km walk on asphalt to Strgar.

I took the path to Sv. Lovrenc. Walking on the road from Sv. Lovrenc to Strgar is a bit dangerous, but it didn't bother some lady who was walking on the RIGHT (and that on the road, not beside it). She counts on the fact that the weaker participant in traffic yields. Unfortunately, accidents often ignore this fact! mrk pogled

Also on the way back at Strgar I don't see the dog, that shepherd that surprised me at the beginning is walking in the yard. I drive to Trbovlje where I stroll a bit around the town and treat myself to a beer then home.

You reminded me to repeat this. Since the last entry I haven't wandered here.
When I was on Kamnik on Friday I saw the peak through the fogs and got the idea.
I also remember the dog - but no trouble with him.
In my opinion a little visited peak - especially from this side..

Locals visit it quite often, but mostly they drive to the hunters' hut (over the weekend they are on duty and drinks are possible), from where it is half an hour of moderate walking. If at the top you turn onto the sheep path (it is also quite steep for wet conditions) and then at the flat area turn right onto the cart track you would return to the valley just a few hundred meters higher than where you left the car.

I did that variant back then. The descent on that path looked used, from this side sadder....

From Strgarja rarely anyone still visits Golava, now that the sheep path is done they do a circular route from the hunters' hut and a bit to the right of the ascent on the sheep path see one of our biggest chestnuts.

Today (24.12.2011.) a pre-Christmas ascent to Golava. Snow additionally burdened the quite steep and demanding Zvonetova path. Down via the Ovča path, which is just a tiny bit easier than Zvoneta... Super thing! Bivouac is awesome!

Today, on 29.5.2012 my colleague and I visited the summit of Golava via Zvonetova path. As starting point we chose the path past the house below, as shown in your pictures. When we arrived at the house we immediately noticed the sign where owners forbid passage, so we crossed the stream a bit lower over the new wooden bridge. Opposite that bridge on the other side of the road is a signpost, which is hard to spot from the car if you're there for the first time. There is also the start of the path to Reška planina. Weather was not promising, but we hoped the shower would miss us, as we didn't want wet and slippery terrain. When we reached the farm where the steeper path starts it started raining properly. When the shower stopped, we continued past the farmstead. Friendly locals at the farm warned us to be careful. Aware of the terrain's difficulty we continued. The path soon showed its teeth. It was necessary to grip the hill well and with quite some skill and a lot of caution search for marks and the path, which is not very trodden, indicating few visitors. The chain on the traverse is welcome, although I would have liked a couple more meters in the upper part. The path offered nice vantage points, which were balm for the soul and eyes. Weather calmed, path flattened, we arrived at the bivouac, where we signed. For descent we chose the Ovča path, which is well trodden and not too demanding and a bit less scenic than Zvonetova, as it runs through forest all the way. I must say it's likeable and interesting also for ascent, but still quite steep. After descent we returned circularly past the farm with the nervous male shepherd dog, where we strongly hoped the chain wouldn't break, as the dog went berserk when we passed by on the path eek. The path then goes over some electric shepherds, which you shouldn't touch mežikanje. The path circularly ends at the farm where it previously gripped into the steepness. We continued on the same path as before back to the valley. We finished after good two hours of walking. The path is scenic, needs caution and physical fitness. The only thing I'd add is that in terms of difficulty Ovča and Zvonetova path cannot be put in the same league, as Zvonetova is quite more demanding, especially in damp weather and on some sections hands are concretely needed for progress-ascent and trekking poles were superfluous and in the way for much of the path from the farm to the bivouac at the top of Golava. Good hiking footwear is essential. I recommend the path to experienced hikers and it's not suitable for Sunday strollers and small children, as it should by no means be underestimated or taken lightly.

Nice greetings and happy steps

Today (29.12.2012.) ascent to Golava. The start of the path is now a bit more north, the little bridge is visible from the road. We went up Zvonetova path, which excited me again. A real natural steep and demanding path, only one cable, the rest without aids. The bivouac was quite visited, nice conversation. Down we descended via Ovčja path, past Kočet farm and from Huš farm down to the starting point. Exceptional thing for the end of 2012...
There was quite a fog, fresh and windless. What surprised me is the fact that there was no snow that was still holding (Ivanščica still has it...). Very nice thing, it seems to me that Golava is somehow underrated among other hills near Celje.

Under the name Golava in the Atlas of Slovenia there is
nothing. Goljava is 836 m high. Who is wrong?

Locals use the name Golava for the hill, Goljava is a hamlet on the eastern side of Golava. So, the peak is named GOLAVA and nothing else. Historically many atlases had quite a few errors with naming various peaks, this one is no exception. LP
