Gontarska planina, Veliki Babnik and Tošč

Straight ahead to Tošč... If you go further, after 12 minutes you'd leave the steep section, where the little path branches again to Tošč and to Govejek, where a nice gentle path runs

On Sunday it was my lucky day . It's been eight years since viharnik posted here the wildest approach to Veliki Babnik through the clogged Beli potok canyon. Ever since that path has tempted me, stirred my imagination; curiosity and desire to explore this approach have grown. Practically no info on it, no descriptions. All I managed to learn about it was here . So thanks viharnik. A couple days ago I did find a little path through this valley, but that wasn't it, not the sandy canyon I so wanted to visit. So we drove to Ločnica wanting to uncover this secret. Already at the canyon entrance you realize you've entered a world where the human foot rarely steps, filling you with respect. Steep, wild world of sandy nature, fallen trees, where you freely choose where to step, where to climb. No path here, all one big pathless terrain. We found only two old human traces, one wooden plank on a tree that viharnik mentioned, and one stone barrier we crossed, but then faced a bigger natural one. The canyon is surrounded by ridges you must climb to leave it. We chose the left one, which seemed more approachable. On the ridge we tracked a path that's there and isn't, but leads through pines, over rocky steps, from where you again admire the canyon view. So you're rewarded twice, walking through it and gazing at it from above. On the opposite ridge we spotted a herd of chamois that fled further, and low-flying birds over the canyon in the air. Beautiful world that fills your soul and heart and you feel joy that you got to see into it and know this world really exists there and now you know the way in .

There are several ridge variants, the most "orthodox" ridge (i.e. right along the ridge all the time) has exactly that start as you assumed. The initial forest section is more or less pathless. In between you just cross one new logging trail, later you reach a cross path which you just cross and stick to the ridge. The higher you go, the nicer, more visible and trodden the path is. On Wednesday morning (10.3.) we were again a bit more hurriedly and briefly in this area. We didn't intend to go right to Veliki Babnik, but just explore that cross trail that looks so nice and tempting... more under photos... For Polhograjci it's worth taking time. We go multiple times, just so, without intent to step on any peak. That's actually even the nicest and most solitary. On Wednesday we met about fifteen chamois, no human though...

Gita, thanks a lot for the vivid reply. The starting pics tell everything about access - it seemed to me I should go there. The ridge will wait for some nice spring day...

Hello, wishing a peaceful resolution of the problem and to inform others on this forum, I forward the message on this topic and also my reply. Things resolve fastest in my opinion if they are transparent: 26.3.2021 19:11:04 Hello, We noticed that several persons without owner's permission on private property unjustly photographed private property and published it on web networks. We also noticed some violations of unauthorized parking and passage, causing damage to land and disturbing possession. Legal basis: Nature Conservation Act Forests Act Agricultural Land Act Mountain Trails Act Code of Obligations Property Code Penal Code In recent years the number of hikers and cyclists on our private land, or right on the courtyard, has greatly increased and finally we found out why. Individuals publish and share on the web exact locations where you were, which is silly but not illegal by itself. Since the trails/pathless areas you walk/ride are not mountain/bike trails but private lands for which you didn't get passage permission, you may be in violation. With your web publications you then entice other hikers/cyclists to violations! We have nothing against enjoying nature and exploring hills, however that doesn't mean unlimited rights! Our conditions are clear: 1. Walk/ride on marked categorized trails per legislation! There are practically none on our land, but we can provide where around they are. 2. Respect privacy and don't photo/film private lands and persons! Anonymized shots for own use are one thing, those for social networks and web another. 3. Anything already recorded/published without owner's/persons' consent shall be immediately deleted from web! If disputed posts not deleted in 8 days, we will report to site admin and then competent institutions. List of posts we want deleted (topic by viharnik 17.1.2009: http://www.hribi.net/trenutnerazmere.asp?slo=1&gorovjeid=5&id=1524 ): viharnik 8.8.2010 viharnik 22.1.2012 viharnik 10.6.2012 pinkerton 11.6.2012 viharnik 11.6.2012 ločanka 12.3.2017 ločanka 12.4.2018 taja3 14.4.2018 ločanka 14.2.2020 GITA 14.2.2020 ločanka 18.2.2020 GITA 1.3.2020 ločanka 1.3.2020 grega_p 11.2.2021 GITA 14.3.2021 grega_p 14.3.2021 palček plezalček 21.3.2021 Thanks for understanding! Best regards ----------------------- reply: Hi, I understand your view. If you don't want hikers, maybe best to put a sign there that it's private land and passage not allowed. I would personally respect it no problem and take another path to the goal. Personally I didn't step on your plot and didn't do the mentioned excursion, evident from post too. Even if I did, I couldn't know. So you'll resolve this easiest as mentioned above, cause otherwise it won't limit as humans are exploratory by nature and deletes alone won't help. Also I'll put your post under this topic so all clear you don't want passage there. No problem, think hikers will respect and be informed this way. Good luck and enjoy peace! lp Grega

Let some lawyer chime in and explain how it is with hiking on pathless terrain, harmless or free passage and publishing photos for non-commercial purposes if taken in public places. Completely understandable that locals want peace and solitude, but unfortunately things have changed in recent years and more people come to previously rarely visited areas. Still some demands seem unreasonable or inconsistent with laws. https://www.kgzs.si/novica/prost-prehod-cez-kmetijska-in-gozdna-zemljisca-2018-07-04
