Grintovec via Dolge Stene

Print
ksena1. 11. 2011 08:07:20
We started at Konec, then to Kokrsko sedlo, where we stepped out of the fog into a beautiful sunny day. Above the saddle we continued along the cairn-marked path to the ridge called Dolge stene. Beautiful ridge path with a bit of scrambling. To the "roof" we crossed a short snow patch, then along it to the summit. Not much snow, where windblown it can sink in up to the knees. It was already softened though, walking not problematic. Surprisingly we met only two mountaineers on the way. Obviously the dull cloudy day in the valley made no one think that above the clouds such a blue sky opens mežikanje. On top it was quite windy, so we settled in a more sheltered spot, gazed at the sea of clouds below us, then descended the roof to Cojzova hut, where we had a quick martinec before plunging back into the fog, and down the usual path to the car at Konec.

Yesterday along the described path to the summit. The ridge of Dolge stene is mostly dry. The summit part of the ridge is mostly still in snow, only part of the path is dry. Scrambling can be practically fully avoided if we keep more to the left. The steepest is the entry gully (50 degrees), then the path flattens (40 degrees to the top). I descended via Jame, the snow was already quite soft (at 11 am), but there was enough almost to the junction of the marked path. The ridge path is more interesting to me.

I read about this path in the Sidarta handbook - author Andrej Stritar and plan to do this tour in summer, because I conquered Grintavec from the classic approach over Streha and from Koča over Dolska škrbina and also from bivouac under Grintavec over Skuta and Dolgi hrbet and also from Suhadolnik over Grdi graben over Zgornji Dolci, I also started from Češka koča towards Skuta and then at Mlinarsko sedlo to the left towards Grintavec. Winter demanding ascents not for me.

Tomorrow we plan with colleague Garmont and company to do this ascent, take some pics and I'll write how it was. lp

Today's ascent in excellent company via Dolge stene was unfortunately ruled by fog, so couldn't follow the "classic path" to the top. Needed quite some climbing in mostly friable rock. Difficulties are considerable if you stick to the ridge, which is of course most recommended in fog.
On Grintovec summit surprised me that the ugly concrete tower is no longer there - praise.
Descent over the roof, where rain caught us.

Indeed we had to scramble quite a bit, but the pleasure all the greater for it. We were all glad for the markers where the traverse joins the path over the roof. Descent over Mlinarsko sedlo to Bivak pod Grintavcem and on to Mala vratca, where rain got us. Company was really great!

Yesterday fog ruled my path too zavijanje z očmi - trained persistence (a bit left, a bit right, when can't go forward then a bit back) and patience (when cloud engulfs you stop a bit, snack from backpack and when it clears continue!) And in the end: who seeks finds velik nasmeh
Wonderful path, scrambling and of course joy when you find the passages! Otherworldly mežikanje

Today I did the long-planned tour - the last approach to Grintavec I hadn't done - the so-called Via Dolge stene. The rest I've already walked - Frischauf path, over Streha and Špremova path. This path I've been eyeing for some time in the guide Sidarta - Grintovci - Southern approaches by Andrej Stritar, and in the May issue of Planinski vestnik all approaches to Grintavec were presented - highly recommend reading.

As always start from Suhadolnik, via Taska. Let me say this path is renovated - praise. Above Cojzova hut towards Skuta. At the rock step Mala vratca-1970m turn left onto barely visible track that leads to the extensive southeast ridge of Grintavca called Dolge stene. Already before WWI this approach was marked, after WWII the path no longer maintained. Still today red markers visible along the whole ridge. If wanting to descend to Krnica Zgornje Jame keep more to the left grassy slope and join the marked path over Streha there. If keeping closer to the ridge top the barely visible path brings you under the upper rock mass of Grintavca. From here the track more sensed than seen. With consistent ascent along the ridge cut must climb some rocky section II degree. For me the route went well without major issues - reached Streha a bit before summit. Today Grintavec summit very crowded. Descended path to Mlinarsko sedlo, over Mali Jezerski Grintavec-2447m. Quite demanding, most exposed parts secured with cables. At saddle to Velike Pode past bivak pod Grintavcem - bivak Pavla Kemperla. Bivak new, three levels. From there back to Cojzova hut.

Me too today did this path that I've long had planned but couldn't decide when to do it. Today really proper day for mountains. Nicely warm, no wind just occasional breeze. Valley already all in autumn colors. About the path others have already written everything. Demanding but to me personally not overly difficult, even fun scrambling. People today tons, hardly found parking spotnasmeh

On Friday as the third participant with dragovo and janez 77 I walked the path to Grintovec via Dolge stene. I definitely join the opinion of janez 77 who recommends this variant for the approach to the Grintovec summit. When reading path descriptions on this forum before, I expected tougher conditions than we actually encountered. The markers on Dolge stene are really quite faded, yet it is possible to orient by them.
On the Grintovec summit we've been so far via three variants, this is the fourth. Thanks to friend dragovo who for quite some time wanted us to go this way. It turned out how right he was with this proposal, as countless times before when we went on tours by his suggestion. Of course the same for the other participant Janez 77 who with his respectable age as a mountaineer successfully matches us somewhat younger. I hope we'll do many more similar tours together.

Yesterday was an exceptionally nice winter day for a mountain visit, so for the start of the winter season I headed to Grintovec via Dolge stene and then up the gully over the caves. No sense in talking about conditions, they'll change this weekend, just a note that in the gully there are still three jumps requiring some kicking and knowledge. Otherwise a nice day was had, about twenty visitors, still too little snow to ski down the roof. Pictures follow, as always ....

Great, jedriličar! Snow has really melted a lot this week, last Sunday it was quite well covered, all jumps except at your second one had some rock exposed.

good luck

As much as I saw today into the gully from the path over the Roof, the gully looks well covered with snow, conditions probably not much different from the post above (jedriličar).

Today's full parking lot at Konec predicted a mass siege of the KSA king.
To my delight everyone chose the Roof, while the path via the Long Walls suited us better. Last time I was here in fog the path wasn't interesting at all, but today it was quite different.
At the top windless and well above zero. How much longer....zavijanje z očmi

Yesterday from Suhadolnik via the Long Walls to Grintovec and back via Dolce and Grdi graben to the starting point. The last downpour badly damaged the road to Suhadolnik, so you have to drive it very slowly if you don't want to get stuck. Path over Taško without issues, after a short break at the hut I head towards the Gates. From here on the really nicest part of the path. I walk partly on the trail partly my own way, views fantastic. From afar the last part looks steep and impassable. But when closer the passages open up. I climb left to the well visible overhanging rock, and past it upwards on the right side. A bit higher I hit a cairn but climb a bit my own way, variants as you like, none exceeds grade 1. Quite soon I reach the cairn at the exit about 50m below the summit. At the top really lots of people, yesterday Grintovec was really crowded. As I descended via the Roof they were ascending almost in a column. At the junction I therefore turned right towards Dolce and returned in complete solitude via Dolce and Grdi graben to the start.
