Bravo! If I got it right you went up via Detmolder Grat, down past Steinerene Mann?

Yes Bojan, exactly like that. Checked on the map There's quite a lot of names unknown to me around there and I love mixing them up

Detmolder Grat is a well secured ridge, from first cable steep to summit, in between torn twice but no problem right where no belay needed. Steinerene Männln has some securing passages nicely routed, now over the spikes, where needed cable and stops before glacier, crossing to glacier currently no issue. Maybe crampons in morning, we two used only ice axe on descent as sun did its thing, but they were in backpack. To me the tour was more varied and adrenaline than on Grossglockner. Both very nice and happy to repeat anytime

Depends how you tackle Veliki Klek. If go normal e.g. via Kodnitzkees glacier, Erheerzoghutte and to summit shouldn't be a problem. Compared to Triglav the upper part much easier to me. Another story is the path over Studdlgrat ridge, which is demanding. From Hochalmspitze summit to Steinernmannl practically a ridge walk compared to Studdlgrat. Martina congrats once more, super done, especially in great weather. Good luck

Thanks for the additional clarifications. If you went again, would you choose same direction or reverse?

Easier in reverse direction (up east, down west), at least for me. Otherwise nicest approach via central gully, of course when conditions right. Read my description on first page

I would now definitely choose the same direction, although we originally thought the reverse one, but the morning fog crossed our plans; we didn't know if we would manage the entry from the glacier, what the tracks from before were like... then we realized that the fog was welcome and the decision correct. As redbul said, the return from the summit to the glacier is a nice traverse over the spikes, enjoyment

Congratulations to all PFranci, really nice tour, shame that fog chased you; it accompanied us from the hut for about 300m and stayed all day in the valley, while we two basked up top in the sun. Already after a week visible changes on the glacier.

All together with breaks from car to car approximately 12 hours.

report with ten days delay: Both routes have changed so older descriptions don't match completely. From Malte valley narrow steep sometimes bad asphalt to free parking at dam at 1660m. Especially last part unpleasant to avoid. Clutch suffers. From parking to Gießener Hütte steep road with some shortcuts. Need to watch as no signs just lines and dots. Especially first junction right after pasture gate hidden in mud. Detmolder Grat: Approach long in morning shade if start early practically to notch. Via ferrata extended further along ridge no more long glacier traverse as on older maps. In upper part quite a few pegs broken. summit: no summit book Steinerene Männln: Via ferrata to glacier extended so more bare rock. Glacier now quite icy > crampons ice axe helmet... Descent southern - hot In good weather tour unique in fog must be quite awkward.

Maybe someone knows when the barrier in Malta where road goes to Gossgrabn is lowered? Last year I know it was already lowered 15.10. Thanks Best Dejan
