Nice mountain path and on the top there is a nice view of the surrounding hills. For this time of year it is really pleasant in the hills and since there is no snow, those of us who love mountains treat ourselves to pleasures and our heart dances and soul calms with such a view. Nice mountain greeting.

I join the opinion above. I was on Javorjev vrh during the week, 22 January. Weather cloudless, only wind cooled the air on top. View unique and unmatched. Path very nice and I recommend it for keeping fitness over winter. LP

I also like this peak. Where did you start from? I usually go from the retirement home via Potoška gora. I descend via a slightly shorter path, nice loop.

On the link there is a description of the marked path from the hut at Čemšenik to Potoška. From the hut onwards there is also an unmarked private path, which is personally nicer to me, more open. The path goes over Baba, there is a summit log box. This path is easier. Now I don't know if it's trodden, but in summer it is. Esther

The path you mention is trodden, as the caretaker at Čemšenik advised two hikers on Saturday to take this path, which is less steep. Personally for me the rather pleasant path described on the link requires real fitness, otherwise legs hurt the next day. Some say the path is more for retirees, but I disagree, you have to really bite into the hill. If some snow falls now, it will be even nicer to hike to this area, and also from another direction. Nice mountain pleasures to all hikers.

Yes the unmarked path is really more scenic and much nicer than the marked one. This path that goes by the hut at Čemšenik is not hard to follow, as it is well trodden. Otherwise on the marked path snow starts at 1150m up to the top, but doesn't pose a problem for hiking. Great tour, but we have to consider 900m elevation gain. Snow on 8.2.2008 was soft on sunny side, frozen in shade. Recommend.

On 8.2.2008 we walked the described circular path. Nice tour, but quite steep.

I'm interested if going from Javorov vrh to Jakob, is it possible to get back to the starting point from there without going back to Javorov vrh? Thanks for the answer Sus

If we take the Polajnar farm as starting point (about 3km from Preddvor towards Jezersko) and go past the Čemšenik hut, about half an hour before the Javorov vrh summit there is a junction where the path to St. Jakob branches off, so if returning of course no need to go back over Javorov vrh. But to St. Jakob there is a much shorter access from Preddvor.

Yesterday 22.02.2008 my friend and I went from Preddvor to St. Jakob. The host is very friendly and quite talkative. The path led us further to Potoška gora. At the top there is little snow, but no slip risk so you can hike without crampons. Just like the path to Javorov vrh. At the top there is a bench and wonderful view to Storžič group and Grintavec. Austrian hills and our hills around Jezersko are nicely visible. View reaches Triglav and across Karavanke. At least at the top we had really nice and clear weather LP Starakapa

Javorov vrh really isn't a particularly notable peak. Today however it turned out pleasant, panoramic and solitary. The path from Potoče to Sv. Jakob is properly trodden and smoothed, but further ahead it's messy and walking on powder snow was great. Excellent conditions and nice views of Kočna, Grintavec, Kalški greben and north towards Košuta, Obir and Pristovski Storžič pulled me further along the ridge towards Cjanovci. With altitude the snow depth increases too, which wind drifted into hollows and only partially covered the pines, so had to climb over branches. On Cjanovci ridge snow is blown off, ice crust at 1750m doesn't break through anymore; crampons needed. Although I had crampons and ice axe in and on backpack, I turned back here because I didn't feel like strapping on classic crampons in the cold. Despite not reaching the top, the trip was interesting.

For those still in the fog a few pics from the path to Javorjev vrh. I climbed it through the gorge of Bistrica stream and then a bit across a bit on hunting paths to the marked path to the top. Returned approx same path, just skipped the gorge because it was too hard for descent, nice path along the ridge by the gorge took me to start. Nice sunny regards Miro

This morning to Javorov vrh from Preddvor, past Jakob, where there is plenty of mud. Higher up new snow, enough to whiten it. At the top a battle of wind and fog, with short views to Cjanovci and Hudičkov boršt, and to Košuta and mountains above Jezersko.

Wonderful views and no mud, it's true that in the afternoon the frost melted and everything got quite mushy.

On Saturday in sunny weather past the weekend huts to Potoška. To the weekend huts it was trodden, further full powder. Lots of snow in drifts, some places blown clean. On Javorov vrh sun enjoyment. On return met another mountaineer above Potoška. To Jakob already quite trodden today, small crampons recommended.
