On Kopitnik on the last day of April.

There is still a little of it on the path to the summit.

On the Kamnik-Savinja Alps the snow will last long into May.

What "pika" promised she of course fulfilled.
Start of path via "Russian" variant which doesn't allow circular walk...
Then our own way without special searching issues.
Between rock towers pleasantly warm. Bivouac even offers "brinjevec". On balcony hot and sunbathing all morning. Climbing wall from below not too hard-looking but from top cool

. Higher to ridge frozen slope, snow on ridge. To Kopitnik logbook box careful too as iced. Further spruces decorated with snow/ice. At hut sun rest, short snack.
Descent to Rimske snowy, icy - careful! Lower bare, muddy.
Approx. 4 hours back at start - Rimske terme.

Here the Ruska pot ended. Nothing else remains but to go into the forest and towards Kopitnik

The stone tower is Kopitnik - summit 914m.

Today with PD Škofja Loka to Kopitnik. Start in Zidanem Mostu via Sovretova path to village Gore to Planinski dom. From there to hut on Kopitnik then to rocky summit Kopitnik. Here whole set of cables. Back via other path to Zidani Most - quite steep and partly secured. Marked - turn left before hut on Kopitnik when returning from summit. End partly on Aškerčeva path. Down completely elsewhere than up. Today paths completely dry, sun all day.

Today to Kopitnik from Rimske Toplice. First to the hut then to the summit. After break along the ridge and descent in the direction of Stražnik and back to Rimske Toplice.
Weather great for martinčkanje velik nasmeh

I'd use the path from Zidani Most at this time. This variant would surely be passable at this time. Hut serviced on weekends??
From the hut onward I'd use the path to Rimske Toplice (two variants). I've already gone on one (if you look a bit higher 15.2.2017). Then back by train to Zidani Most. That's my suggestion...

Tired of this year's snow, we decided to explore hills around Rimske Toplice that were still unknown to us nasmeh

We headed to Kopitnik via its neighbor on the other side of the Savinja, Veliko Kozje. Some compacted avalanche debris only below the summit of Velikega Kozjega in the direction from Rimske Toplice, everything else was snow-free and dry. Gašperjeva hut was closed, surprisingly we had trouble getting coffee even in Zidani Most zavijanje z očmi

. We continued to Kopitnik via the nice village of Širje and descended from the top back towards Rimske Toplice.

Elevation gain and distance added up to almost Triglav, new experiences even much more. All in all a nice loop trail, just right for this season nasmeh

Morning start from the railway station in Rimske Toplice.

We walked for some time on a traffic-free asphalt road right next to the railway.

Markings for Veliko Kozje are frequent, this one on an ancient barn.

The asphalt has been replaced by macadam. In nature the paths are now quite different from the maps.

Here we go left. The path ahead is full of difficult compacted scree.

The hut was closed, probably not enough visitors yet.

We are already walking in the direction of Zidani most.

We still need to cross the Savinja and continue along the valley to the turn-off for Aškerčeva pot.

The railway is the main traffic vein of this valley and we found even the only coffee somewhere else than at the railway station.

From the railway station we climb the road for some time all the way to the turn-off for Aškerčeva pot.

Turn-off. The path signs are nicely explained in the tourist brochure of TIC Laško.

The path first goes through the village and slowly rises to the right above it.

Along the path. Houses attached to the slope.

We leave Aškerčeva pot and begin to ascend in the direction of Kopitnik.

To the top a considerable amount of steep terrain must be covered.

We must cross the Savinja once more to our starting point.

Two years ago Pika and I started at the spa at the beginning of the Ruska stezica trail.

When we reached the end at 1224m, we went "our own way". All along I felt I had to finish this part of the trail. Find a better variant!
Again I start with Ruska steza, but before the end of the trail I turn into the gully where water gurgles. Nice rocky gully, but surprise at the top.
Looks like locals use it for dumping garbage.... zmeden

Further on it goes well and soon I'm on the forest path we used back then to the village Lukovica. Here the marked trail from Rimske joins. I don't go to Stražnik, but continue on the macadam road. On the left view of Veliko Kozje, ahead the cliffs of Kopitnik rising from the beech forest. In the steepness I find the path to the bivouac. Everything is crisscrossed with game trails.
At the bivouac a snack. Bivouac clean and well stocked. Continue along the rocky ridge searching for passages. Soon on the ridge and then just a walk to Kopitnik. Continue to the hut, which is open (holidays and weekends).
For descent I choose the marked trail through the hamlet Borovo to the valley of Ogeški potok.
In the last part the path is muddy, up to here it was frozen or snowy.
Nice five-hour holiday walk. In the upper part on the north side remnants of frozen snow. Temperature from morning -2.5C to +5.5C on return.

This is not a surprise, I noticed it two years ago already.

Veliko Kozje and the right ridge, which offers beautiful views.

A couple more steps and I'll be at the end of the ridge.

Retirees don't need to wait for a sunny weekend, they can go to the mountains on a cloudy morning velik nasmeh

The morning was a bit gloomy, but then the sun came out.
Anyway, the steepness and exploring Kopitnik cliffs warmed us up.
At the bivouac we take a short break and then to the rocks above it. We enjoy some easy scrambling. cool

Then along the ridge to the rocky promontory of Kopitnik. We continue to the hut. We were lucky, the guys are tidying up the surroundings and we get beer. Otherwise they had promised us a brush, we found an excuse and got away without "painting".
We descend behind Borovo and spot a "suitable" shortcut. Steeeep, we go down and hit a path perpendicularly. Then we zoom down it to the spa, to the parked car.

Well, I'm glad someone else on the forum posts a pic of the pigsty in nature - sorry for the expression. Hope someone responsible moves from their throne and fixes it.
Maybe such pics could be sent directly to the relevant municipality.

@geppo today I checked out your "paths" from the other side (Lisce). The wilderness you explore is nicely visible. Didn't see the bivouac with the naked eye.

Rocky terrain we scrambled up to the top. Mark the path, and you wouldn't dare.

From Rimske Toplice first along Aškerčeva, then at the century-old cypresses to Ruska steza up to 1000. There along the forest ridge to the path that goes higher past the pond for forest animals (by the way - peeked into the gully with the stream, garbage persists, probably from nearby houses?). In Lukovica I get lost and higher up from the marked luckily catch the chamois traverse to grab the right path. To the bivouac and then through steep grass and passages further to Kopitnik. Returned via the steep path to Borovo, which took me directly to the car. For a good four hours I walked quite a bit
P.s. quite demanding tour for these hills without a guide. Hints above are just enough, in wet or fog better stick to marked. I myself took extra time in my head for orientation and difficulty, and it came in handy nasmeh
