Košuta - all two-thousanders

Košuta has 13 two-thousanders!? If you disagree, correct me; whatever we agree on in the end, let that be valid. On the east of the ridge, Tolsta Košuta awaits us, with East Summit (2057m) and West Summit (2026m). The path is not marked, well trodden, no problems with orientation. The passage to Košutnikov turn (2133m) is described by KLM in the section Tolsta Košuta West Summit - 3 October 2010 (mentions Z, Middle and E Face, which I won't count); "Ordinary" mountaineers will descend to Zgornje Dolge njive pasture and continue on the marked trail Košutnikov turn - east path. From Košutnikov turn, we can descend the west path to Spodnje Dolge njive or continue to Ostrv (2104m), where we then collect two-thousanders like pears, namely Macesje (2124m), Užnik (2079m) on which a shovel is placed by the border stone... up to here all nice and right. Continuing, we arrive or think we have arrived at Perilnik. I deliberately did not give the altitude, because M&M gives their "Ž&Ž", Luka worked hard in Voluhar trip reports; Klinar, Ipavc... In my humble opinion, Perilnik is between Užnik and Tegoška gora (2044m), where there is border stone XXIV - 58 or 59. I don't care, I collected all highest points of the ridge, so it didn't miss me. Got it! I deliberately started on the east of the ridge, because now comes the easier part. From Tegoška gora, one can descend steep grasses to Tegoška planina, from Pungratska gora (2025m) a marked path leads to Pungrat planina. Probably the most visited are those from numerous accesses (Kofce planina foremost) for which without Hribi.net I would never have known, Kladivo (2094m), Malo Kladivo (2036m), Toplar (2000m) and Veliki vrh (2088m).

I've heard of Perilnik, but no one has shown it to me yet. In the picture between Užnik and Tegoška there is nothing, except maybe a flat area, which is just as big as between Maces and Užnik. Enlighten us so we find it. LP

Three weeks ago we traversed: Dolge Njive, Košutnikov Turn, along ridge to Veliki Vrh descent to Podljubelj. Almost whole day, slowly, photographing, pausing, enjoying. On all summits, but can name only 4. Attaching ridge photo from Storžič. If anyone wants, mark the other 2000ers. http://shrani.si/f/2E/3j/3cG8d8zV/panorama2a.jpg Zoom for better view

Bos, congrats on this tour. Seems very long to me. How many hours did you need for the whole or do you have length data in km? Thanks. Also to you Kolosej, thanks for the overview of two-thousanders on Košuta.

Congrats on the tour. I'm quite a good connoisseur of Slovenian mountains. But no one has ever shown me Perilnik. Does the summit even exist, or is it just some area somewhere on Košuta ridge. Neither location nor height known. Some say west of Užnik, some say east. Elevations different, 2000m, 2041m, 2060-2070m... Nowhere noticeable. Will be very glad if someone explains and shows it to me if it exists. Thanks.

Perilnik 2041, in my opinion, is located between Tegoška gora 2044 and Užnik 2079 (western summit of Macesja)

Perilnik - "reality or myth" Given that I photographed the ridge very well, I put forward the first option which M&M also mention, photo from Macesja summit towards Užnik.

Lianeja, is there a visual candidate or summit that could be Perilnik? Thanks for the answers, although it's still not clear. I'm interested in who named this summit so that its location isn't known and why it was forgotten. Klinar also hesitates. I don't know why it should exist at all. There are thousands of such protrusions in Slovenia, but they have no names. Bos, candidate is also this one between Macesje and Užnik, good... Surely. But we're no closer to the solution. Maybe a local knows. Safe steps to all.

Gorazd Gorišek in PV 13/5 in the description of the Košuta traverse mentions Perilnik (2022m). "...from main summit Macesja... via Perilnik, 2022m, we approach Užnik, 2079m, on the Carinthian side bold Cjajnik accompanies us..." etc.

If I join the debate a bit more, I can quote Klemen Janša, who in the PZS Karavanke Guidebook regarding Perilnik, which he places in the Macesja ridge, wrote: "Behind Užnik rises Perilnik (Mittelwand, approx. 2000 m). Its name is German, derives from Waschrumpel (rattle), recalled by horizontal layers of Dachstein limestone in the west part of its north wall. East of Perilnik rises the highest summit of Macesje (Breitwand or Breitkopf, 2124 m). The summit, next to Košutnikov turn (2133 m), is the mightiest peak in the entire ridge. It is separated from Perilnik by Piksova škrbina (Pichscharte, 2009 m), which also separates it from Stolp (Pichsturm, 2080 m), a huge rock tooth plummeting steeply to scree above Koča pod Košuto (Koschutahaus). The last summit in the ridge is Ostrv (Zadnja Košuta, Kleiner Koschutnikturm/Kainradlturn, 2104 m)". From this I conclude that Perilnik will not be found between Tegoška gora and Užnik, but between Užnik and Macesje. The author does not give its height, which should be at least higher than 2009 m, the height of Piksova škrbina separating Perilnik from Macesje. Again something to think about and actual inspection on the "terrain".

In the photos posted by bos, Perilnik should be there. On the 3rd photo there are two notches, the first between Užnik and Perilnik somewhere in the middle of the photo and the second between Perilnik and Macesje, which is extreme right bottom on the photo. From the photo it seems the notch between Užnik and Perilnik is the lower of the two. What interests me is which one is Pichsova with 2009 m, which is also marked on the Karavanke 1:50000 map. I.e., does Perilnik lie east or west of the notch with 2009 m? But Pichsov stolp, in my humble opinion, cannot be a Slovenian two-thousander, or can it? It will need to be checked on the terrain.

According to what's written in the guidebook, that Piksova škrbina separates Perilnik from Macesja, I think Perilnik is west of it.

I wouldn't discuss Viharnik's clutch, but the guy has one thing checked. The road from Jelendol can be quite tricky, so caution is not superfluous. One pic from previous season, even Toyota waits...

What clutch, with crampons couldn't climb up anyway, just digging in place . Now even more ice and slipperier.

Let's rather talk about mountains, not clutches.
