Lanež

Yesterday I was on Lanež(1925m), it's the neighbouring peak of Raduha, you can reach it by turning left at Durc summit, from the direction of the hut on Grohat. As a hiking trail I couldn't find a description?! We went up the Butalska grapa and back down the Mišina grapa. Snow was super, weather too. Another perfect day for a mountain visit!

We were around 8.30 a.m. already at the Lanež summit and then conditions up and down were still OK, which can be attributed to the shady position of the gullies, snow was quite hard so the ice axe and crampons gripped well. In the sun it was already sinking in, so I recommend an early hour... and safe steps and enjoy!

On Saturday early morning we headed to Bukovnik to check conditions in gullies leading to Lanež. Despite early hour it was relatively warm, on approach to gullies already quite soggy and walking not top class. Gullies nicely filled and conditions in them very good. Despite softened snow quick progress possible and by 10am we climbed four gullies. Up Mišina and Naša grapa. Down Butalska and Detektivska grapa. Gullies don't differ much in difficulty reaching inclination 30 to 55 degrees.
Visibly satisfied heading back to civilization where spring temperatures await.

Yesterday I "escaped" from hot valley to pleasant cool towards Raduha. Park at Vodole pasture and along road to first junction. Left to Javorje pasture; soon at shepherd hut where friendly keeper offers shot "homemade", homemade cookies and good coffee. Straight up hill to Jelovec; pleasant path even nicer with abundant alpine flowers. After Konjska Loka pasture path "stands upright", but soon on beautiful plateau at Lanež my goal today. Views far to Peč, Karavanke, Savinja Alps and across Rogatec to Menina. Enjoy beauties refresh then to Durce. Look to Grohart and Bukovnik then descend to Loka. Here too beautiful mountain flowers delight and soon at hut. Just stamp on my hat and to plan. Javorje. Keeper "not home" so straight down to Vodole where ride waits. Beautiful sunny flower-filled loop not strenuous, happily farewell pleasant pastures and off to hot valley.

@kati1909, which part is called Konjska loka? Is it where the view opens to the north?
The flower in picture 26 is not mračnica but mračica, and based on the flowering time probably heart-leaved mračica. nasmeh

Otiv; Konjska Loka pasture (1790m) was once a pasture, lies below Jelovec (1808m). Yes, the view opens to Peč and Carinthian mountains. On its left side is the path to Lanež. Thanks for the "correction" of mračica.mežikanje

If we are precise, the height of Jelovec is 1845m.nasmeh

I too always use this data 1808m asl, because it is officially recorded on maps.

It is written on Wikipedia: Raduha is a 2062m high mountain in the eastern part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, separated from the central group by the deep Savinja gorge. Its summit elongated ridge runs and gently rises in the direction northeast - southwest, above which individual peaks rise, from the lowest Jelovec (1845 m), middle Lanež (1925 m), to
high Mala Raduha (2029 m) and the highest peak Velika Raduha (2062 m).

And also this velik nasmeh: Velika Raduha (2.062 m, V.). Raduha is a 3.300 m long mountain ridge from Tolsta peč (1.871 m) on the southwest above the Savinja valley to Jelovec (1.885 m)zmedenzmeden on the northeast, where at Planina Vodol it borders the Smrekovo plateau ...
Who is precise in this casecool?

I browsed a bit through my collection of maps of this area and noticed that there are no deviations in the measurements of the height of Jelovec summit. It is true that the cross itself does not stand on the highest point 1845m, but on 1808m. But the summit is nevertheless the highest point..zavijanje z očmi
So much for uniform precision.nasmeh
Most importantly, the summit is really nice despite the height. eek

I think we won't solve thiszavijanje z očmi
There is also a discrepancy - Durce 1910m asl ("your" maps) "mine" 1905m asl? But kati 1909 didn't use the elevation of the cross in the description. She wrote the summit name Jelovec and described the asl for that summit.

It's not about resolution, I just presented the height of the peak as stated by cartography over a 40-year period.
Various electronic aids, like Garmin Adria Topo even list Jelovec height at 1728m, so
obviously modern gadgets are unfortunately quite deficient.mežikanje
These two maps based on Geopedie are also inconsistent because the elevation contour is missing.eek
Administrator Tadej, I suggest correcting the height in the listings that mention Jelovec.mežikanje

Gepo, maybe my hint will help you. The cross is placed on KUPU. That peak is called (and locals call it Kup) Na Kupu. 1808 meters. Jelovc however is the highest peak 1845 meters.

To Lanež I set off from below the hut on Loki, minor troubles finding the right path came in handy as an excuse for a side trip to Jelovec nasmeh - i.e. the peak Na Kupu as recently determined..
From there back to the basin with the feeding pond, from where it's just a short way to the top. I returned to Loka via Durce.

On 23.09.2018 we wandered a bit around and on Raduha. From Bukovnik farm to Grohat hut, then through the gully along Hojnikova path to Lanež, to the gully a bit off-trail, from Lanež to Jelovec, descent to Loka hut, ascent over planina Arto to Raduha and descent via Durce to Grohat and Bukovnik. Morning weather looked poor, fog, possible rain, but around ten it turned to nice sunny day with suitable temperature for rambling, no rush of hikers. Some photos at http://www.pdmaticams-drustvo.si/

I'm wondering if it's possible to do a loop from the hut on Travnik over Jelovec to the hut on Loki and back to the start. Probably not marked?
Thanks for the reply.

A loop route can certainly be done.
Not marked from Planina Vodol to Jelovec, but nicely followable. Also on Raduha ridge there's a clear path leading to Lanež and on to the marked path on Velika Raduha.

Thanks, geppo. Can you give a hint how (where) on Planina Vodol to find the path to Jelovec?

geppo26. 06. 2019 21:44:03
Go to end of macadam road - wooden huts to the right. Then straight up the hill to the ridge. On the ridge clear little path takes you to Jelovec summit. I think no problems. You see Jelovec and cross and orient a bit.

That's how it was yesterday on route Koprivna - Sv. Jakob - Zgornje Sleme - Spodnje Sleme - planina Grohot - Durce - Lanež - Durce - planina Grohot - Spodnje Sleme - Janšek - Koprivna.
Path from Koprivna to Zgornje Sleme not marked.
Path past Janšek farm abandoned, marks still fairly frequent but trail almost gone.
