What do you suggest, where to go this weekend to see yellowing larches? The suggestions will probably be useful to someone else too...

This is how it was last year, a bit later (end of October), along the path through Grlo to Sleme and back past Črnih vod. I also suggest Trupejevo poldne from Gozd Martuljek.

On Sunday I watched them turning yellow on the path from Palec, specifically on Zelenica between the huts, or under Na Možeh. Here and there towards saddle Šija there are plenty of them, and on the path saddle Rožca-Koprivnjak, Španov vrh (probably not there yet), and of course, Sleme (only there it's full of people), Mojstrovica, Mrežce, along the path from Blejska koča towards Debela peč.

Larches will turn yellow only next weekend, and even then only the highest growing ones, there's too much moisture.

I too, on Sunday, observed their still unfinished autumn metamorphosis, as I was climbing towards koča Corsi or towards Viš.

For St. Nicholas I'll tell you spot on which ones they were big grin

Otherwise they're usually "the real ones" in the second half of October, all the way to the first frost, if rain doesn't "shake them off" green before.

From mid October and almost to the end of the month, then they shed quickly. They stay golden longest above Soča, below Zjabci, Pl. Za Skalo.

Last year I remember that they shed their needles in Travnikova valley earlier than elsewhere. They are beautiful from Zapodna towards Špiček. And from Zadnjica to Dolič.

One of the nicer spots, at least for me, for observing yellowed larches is the larch grove below Lipnik (Monte Schenone) from malga Poccet upwards. (photographed 15.10.2017)
