KOŠUTICA, 24.01.2011
With my wife we both went today to the summit of that mountain.
Conditions are quite okay, some wind-blown snow, others icy base, so ice axe and crampons are not superfluous. We can't believe that almost no wind blew, given that the weather was clearly worsening. From the top we descended via the chute, because the descent on the normal path past the rock step under the grassy part was heavily iced, so it was a real pleasure to descend on pure ice: nasmeh

The weather turned for the better as we descended

Since the sun probably didn't shine on you today, I'm convinced that luck warmed you. It would definitely be the case for me if my wife accompanied me to Košutica.

Not just luck. In our family we know who the main mountain goat is (read enjoyer), plus our little furry one diligently helps her with it. The sun started warming us only on descent, about halfway - at the clearing cool

On days like today the call of the mountains is especially loud and you have to respond to it. Today we headed to Košutica, or Ljubeljska Baba, since we hadn't been there for 25 days. It was wonderful and worth the effort. The path was icy in places, mostly the snow had a hard crust. Luckily the track was already broken, although rarely does a hiker stray there. You sweat a bit with winter gear too, but Košutica rewards the effort with beautiful views and ... nasmeh

You park the car at the parking lot at the last bend before Ljubelj border crossing, then right across the road into the forest where there's a nicely laid out and trodden path. When you reach the livestock shelter, you have two options, either left on tracks directly to Košutica ridge and then to the top, or along the fairly flat marked path to planina Korošica, to the signpost, then left uphill to Košutica. Both paths are good, just the first has great views a bit earlier...enjoy!

...Košutica yesterday...Up the hunting path, back via Hajnževo sedlo and to planina Korošica. Then again on the hunting path back to the valley. Enjoy nature, bye..Majda

Congratulations Majda!
If I understand correctly, you descended from the top via the so-called eastern path over the ridge.. That doesn't look exactly child-friendly.
Today my wife and I went to the cross and a bit further over the cables to the other peak (thought that was the goal). But apparently end is at the cross, since no one else went further. Returned the same way.
Nice mountain, just the weather wasn't the best today. We'll surely return.

Clouds were really rushing over the peaks today and »spoiled« the views, but at least in these parts they kept the wetness to themselves. The colorful flowers along the path were payment for the effort.

From the hut at Ljubelj the path was a bit muddy in the first part, further normally passable. According to forecast, conditions will be different already tomorrow.

Hi Heinz...
Up we went - Concentration camp, Košutica (hunter's path), - down via eastern path to Hajževo sedlo, then right to planina Korošica. Then again right, (not to road hut) and you're back on hunter's path. Along the ridge it's a really pleasant mountain path. Hardest part is from cross to next summit. I've been up many times, and this hunter's path liked me most, nice regards Majda...

Saturday afternoon I used to visit favorite Korošica, which was more or less deserted, today snow whitened it, which for this date is nothing unusual.

Today I went from Ljubelj past the hut at old Ljubelj to Košutica. Weather foggy all the time but pleasant for hiking. Back to Hanževo sedlo, Planina Korošica and to start Ljubelj.

Today I dashed from Ljubelj to Košutica. In between I also jumped to Lokovnikov Grintavec. On the summit it started blowing, on Veliki vrh gray clouds were gathering, so I hurried to the valley. There the sun awaited me.

Due to the forecast of bad weather I dashed for a shorter tour. From Ljubelj past the hut to Košutica. On the ridge and summit strong wind was blowing. The weather held. In the hut they have good "štrudel".

Saturday, 17.9. – this year's last summer Saturday lured me to long eyed summit Košutica (last year to planina Korošica); this time hunter's path, much friendlier to feet than from Vranček, as it winds through soft forest terrain, only markers scarcer; early morning hour promised slippery path on dewy grass blades, but sun higher dried rocky part; on path met only four hikers, after good hour enjoyment on top, quite few gathered, also youth from Idrija; joy and triumph on top with nice »turci« and new summit slightly marred by poorer views, esp to Košuta ridge and Veliki vrh, most day Vrtace and background Stol shyly hidden; hut on planina open, food drink well provided; lp
