Posting old photos under current conditions would not only be nonsensical, but misleading and dangerous. Many people prepare for their intended tour also based on descriptions and pics posted in "current conditions" of this forum. Unfortunately, as it seems, some have pics in stock just to post them, even if old and maybe not even theirs.

Regarding the pics I have to chime in, ... that some of you think like that, then that's useful for you yourselves, probably not for the vast majority ... Weather changes from minute to minute anyway, especially if forecast for more unstable weather. I myself experienced a debate about pics and weather (it referred to Velika Planina,) ... like which day was I even on the mountain , because the sun was shining then when someone from forum posters was at the top. I just experienced bad weather and didn't even think that I wouldn't believe that someone else, some time behind me at the top or before me, anyway, had nice weather. That's all about pics and current conditions. LP!

I think everyone is responsible for themselves and their actions, we won't blame someone else who maybe wrote in the forum or under some picture how it was. Emphasis is definitely on "was". But now we'll treat posting pictures as a criminal act or something? Because the conditions in the picture might not suit us.

Check the profile of user @otiv, read certain numbers, follow his posts, photos and hiked paths, then throw the stone-if you remain doubting Thomases. Congratulations @otiv for the beautiful photos of that nice Monday a week ago !!!

On Saturday (19.4.) during ascent from Vrata towards Luknja we left ski skins on two trees 100m apart in elevation. We left them because they stopped working, and ahead strenuous ascent to Pihavec. When returning, no skins in sight. The two touring skiers who were ahead of us at Luknja took one pair of skins down to the valley. We got those skins back. Behind us three more skiers were ascending towards Luknja. Man and two women. Based on ski tracks we observed when skiing from Pihavec towards Luknja, this group of touring skiers continued from Luknja to Konto under Gamsovec and skied back to valley ahead of us. Please contact us as soon as possible. You can at mako_kern@yahoo.com. Thanks. Pics from Pihavec: http://www2.arnes.si/~mcuder/ture_dnevnik.html

There is still snow in the upper gully of Luknja, lower down only near the wall of Plemenica.

The day before yesterday on skis: at six in the morning there were about 40 cars in the Vrata parking lot. Snow for ski ascent starts approximately at the fork of the Čez Prag path. Numerous avalanche debris is well processed, only in the lower part many places unskiable due to large furrows made by avalanches. Snow was already soft on surface at that hour, last half hour before Luknja I put on crampons, expecting more hardness in shaded steep slope, but they were completely unnecessary. Mainly from Jugov steber occasionally showered mix of snow, ice and rocks, so I ascended a bit more to the right. At Luknja I met a ski tourer who skied down from area between Gamsovec and Pihavci, snow up there quite rotten and heavy for ascent. Some hikers had skis on backpacks aiming for Kredarica via Slovenska smer and then descent Za Cmirom. Skiing on partly crusty snow wasn't any highlight, up top lots of rocks in snow, below at some spots not too ideal avalanche debris. Tried to get as low as possible on skis, but ended up trudging dozens of meters on foot through beech scrub and it was annoyingly piercing. Maybe gained a meter more if gone more on avalanche. Still nice morning. And this: few days ago on web twice or thrice posted that descent Za Cmirom almost ideal. Result: in Turkov rov already at six am 30 or 40 cars parked, at ten when returning another ten or twenty more. Though aware I'm part of the crowd visiting mountains, such amount of metal and roughly at least hundred visitors ascending and skiing the valley that day somewhat unpleasantly chilled me.

J., thanks for that selfless recommendation of the wonderful descent Za Cmirom. With this touring idea you've brightened the day for many ski tourers. Thanks again!

#Lino, the greatest quality of this and similar forums is that they enable exchange of knowledge and info among those who like going to mountains. I think that's good and right so sometimes I try to contribute modestly myself. Sarcastic comments or even possible shutdown of such online gathering sadly won't prevent excessive visits, with which certain areas of our (and foreign) mountains are undoubtedly overburdened. If you read my Luknja post carefully, you'd see that the descent in these parts is no longer wonderful. But check this report: http://razmere.e-gora.si/RazmereVsebina.php?Obv=14064. When driving past on Sunday I saw that on the last scree above the forest consolidated snow had partly melted, snow mass slowly turning into individual tongues. Spring is coming! Good luck!

@lino is the law! Hard to decide what's better - the tours he does or his experiential descriptions of the tours he's done. He's long outgrown this forum
