Mala Pišnica / hunting hut

When climbing from Tamar over Grlo, in the forest at the top of Grlo we encounter a warning sign. It stands at the path junction, where the path over Grlo goes right up to Slemenova Špica or left down into Mala Pišnica.

Ooh, but I bet it's still less mortally dangerous than the CAI 501 path, the descent from the Rio degli Uccelli ferrata above Pontebba. And nowhere does it say it's mortally dangerous. Nor do I remember it saying it's closed.

For some no prohibitions apply at all. Same as on the road.

Hello, a few years ago we climbed up Pišnica valley to the famous larch, one of the largest in Slovenia. It grows in a solitary spot between Pišnica and Tamar valleys, at around 1500m altitude, 22m high, but 10m of the top broke off, circumference is 422cm. The larch's age is estimated at 800-1000 years. The path took us past the hunting hut. At some pool we saw an interesting fossil. It's a very nice, interesting but orientationally demanding path. Lp

Sonia, did you go all the way along the streambed?

In the beginning we went along the streambed, after about 20 min. we turned right onto the slope, it's quite a steep path, we came to the hunting hut via it. According to the local who guided us, this path in Pišnica valley changes every year. Lp Sonja

Super! So is it possible to follow the path?

Yes, once you find the turnoff up the slope which is at the pool...last two pics...from the trail you can't stray. But from the stream it's quite steep and crumbly. On the hardest, albeit short section you mustn't slip (pic 8). Once you get past this part you're right in the forest on nice trail.

Thanks, as for slipping, that unfortunately applies to many paths and places, even across Sovatna.

Yes, that holds true. Only here, i.e. this part (pic 8) is really steep and without footholds, and gravelly, on both sides drop quite deep.

Yeah why wouldn't it be possible? Except that the path is dangerous for Englishmen but deadly for us...

Isn't there a sign for the upper path, not along the streambed?

Yes, the sign stands on the upper path, right after this path branches off from the path to Vitranc, and also on this side, when I joined the upper path (towards Kranjska Gora). That means one section of this path is closed.

Today I went to Mala Pišnica with the intention of just going along the stream bed as far as possible. The wilderness I walked through literally left me speechless. I think there are no words that could describe it. The stream took me down to a narrow gorge in the middle of the valley, closed by a waterfall, which unfortunately couldn't be reached. All along I was also looking for small paths or a path that could go above the bed, but I couldn't spot it at all. Hand on heart, I can't even imagine where it could lead over all those debris and scree slopes, unless it goes a couple hundred meters higher. Anyway, I will return to this beautiful and wild world, I just need to study these descriptions of various paths above the valley.

Today I went through Mala Pišnica, then up from the stream bed along the hunting path, continued past the hunting hut and Grlo to Slemenova Špica. On the way back I wanted some fun and chose the upper path (which is officially closed) for the return, after a few turns I notice that the municipality of Kranjska Gora has started renovating the path. There are some new little bridges but they are not for use as the thing is far from stable. But it's nice to see that they intend to renovate it. I warn that the path is slippery, dangerous and unsuitable for the average hiker. With this post I just wanted to show that work is being done there and in no way encourage people to visit this still closed path.

Already Saturday morning started adrenaline-fueled, and I hadn't even started hiking ...well, a flat tire really spices up the start of the day, but help came to my aid (read, I was an excellent assistant, but all credit goes to the friendly uncle ), I assume the oldest resident of Belca, and at 8:00, an hour later than planned, we were already puffing along the Mala Pišnica valley, just in time we turned into the forest, where we didn't feel the heat, but we made up for it all. To the LK we only went off path once a bit, which pulled us uphill, hehe, but we quickly got back on the "trodden" path. This time we turned to Grlo and continued towards Slemenova Špica, where even at this time of year it's incredibly beautiful, all green, all blooming, of course the Jalovec giant adds value Descent to Vršič, where we were quite successful at hitchhiking back to Jasna. Nice tour, the biggest heat "cauldron" was from Grlo to the upper marked path, lounging or shading among and under beautiful larches is total victory.
