Matajur

After a long time back on Matajur. Because of Giro d'Italia both roads to Matajur village got quite a few kilometers of new asphalt. Otherwise it's still quite spring-like on Matajur.

This afternoon on Matajur. Despite fairly nice weather, few visitors. The path was a bit muddy in places, otherwise no special features.

Finally time again to visit the hills, after too many months of stagnation. From Avs past Idrijska planina to the top of Matajur, where only one mountaineer was enjoying it when I arrived. On the return along the same path I met quite a few mountaineers. Views towards Friuli or Trieste a shade nicer than to the Slovenian Alps. Weather warm.

Yesterday's sunset from Matajur wonderfully rounded off an already beautiful winter day nasmeh All paths to Matajur are dry and normally passable. More at this link:

On New Year's Day a walk to Matajur from Avs. Along the old path over Srednji and Mrzli Vrh to the ever popular Matajur. More than a super day for a hike, the peak offered really nice views all around. And it was warm, even a bit too muchnasmeh

In the morning on Matajur from Matajur village. Road to Pelizzo hut is snowy and icy, yet someone, I won't say who, drives up with the car. From hut to top the path is bare in places, elsewhere fully icy. Today there was noticeable inversion, quite a few visitors. More here:

Čebelica maja, first part completely bare, then some snow. With car you can go up to three quarters, but I left the car at the path start. Today Dora and I went up, trail well trodden and visible even in fog. Started snowing towards top. Nice and atmospheric, quite solitary but not completely, as we weren't the only ones drawn to these parts.

Today on Matajur. The start was in Italy in the village Mašera-Masseri-760m. Only the last third of the path offers us some snow and mud too. The mountain had lots of visitors despite high cloudiness.
Start in the village of Mašera.1
Start of the path above the village.2
Half of the path runs through the forest.3
Straight ahead.4
In Italy paths are well marked with numbers. We always know we are on the right path.5
The hut on Matajur was open.6
Along the path.7
Part of the path is on a mule track.8
Also a little on snow.9
We are at the top.10

View towards Krn-Žal: high cloudiness and views not the best.13

Within one week already second time on Matajur. This time the start was from Slovenia from the village Avsa. At the beginning of the village a signpost directs us to a sufficiently large well-kept parking lot with table and benches. That's the starting point.
Large parking lot.1
Panoramic sign.2
Start of the path.3
PD Kobarid has well marked the path. There is no shortage of directional signs and marks on rocks and trees.4
5
Path along the pasture fence.6
We go along the so-called Old Path.7
In the forest we encounter several building ruins. I don't know what they served for, because the ruins are already deep in the forest.8
After barely an hour we are already in the pasture area of the Matajur mountains.9
10
11
We are roughly halfway.12
We walk along the road for half an hour.13
Under the road there was once a large building.14
Here it turns off the road to the right towards Matajur.15
It goes through the snow as well.16
The path merges with the Italian trail no. 736 towards the end, which takes us to the summit.17
We are here.18
Below Matajur on the Italian side is Marsinska planina and to its left a mountain hut - also Italian - a quarter of an hour to it.19

Today with PD Škofja Loka to Matajur. Actually it takes more time to drive there from Kranj or Škofja Loka than you then spend on the path to Matajur. The bus also goes a bit slower than a personal car. We drove there via Petrov Brdo. Back via Sovodenj which is a better variant regarding driving conditions. Up from Italy from Mašera. Returned to Slovenia to village Avsa via the so-called Old path, which is not described here.
Start in the village Mašera in Italy.1
We are leaving the village.2
After one hour we cross the mountain road.3
Half the uphill path goes through the forest.4
We are already right in front of the summit here.5
Rest at the chapel on the top of Matajur.6
Here the firefighters photo was taken. But still not everyone is on the photo.7
Descent on the Slovenian side.8
We walk half an hour on the mountain road.9
Last rest before Avso.10

As already said, yesterday my first trip to the top of Matajur, but nice views of still snow-covered mountain peaks unfortunately were not there, but that didn't spoil the overall impression, as it was only the weather's fault, which changes anyway. The Kanin mountain range showed itself best, we could admire it. Hardly noticeable in the distance were the blurred outlines of Mangart, Jalovec, Razor. Krn wasn't proud towards us yesterday either. But Matajur enthused me anyway, and I'll return for the wide views, that's decided.nasmehnasmeh One thing is certain, Matajur is a peak that doesn't leave you indifferent, it enthuses, attracts and thus invites repeated visits. And its name sounds nice toonasmeh.

So some of my impressions from yesterday.
