Mokrica is really the right thing for exploring unmarked paths and off-trail routes. Already last year I enjoyed exploring the southern side (shortcuts to the sandpit, variants to the hunting hut, descent to Markova raven; paths above the hunting hut over Debeli hrib, past the cave to Ovčarija, long traverse left towards Kriška planina).
Today I was looking for the directissima variant (SW section, mentioned as descent option in Brezpotja) from Predasli. The lower part of the path (after three right turns) can be walked quite nicely, but a short icy stretch needs to be widely bypassed. Follow several sections of roads, forest tracks and off-trail. At height around 1300m I managed a nice crossing to the wide ridge on the border of Mokrica's southern side and Kamniška Bistrica valley. I even caught traces of a path. Turned back at forest edge crossing due to work. It'll wait for next time. Glad for any info on the upper part if anyone's been therenasmeh It lives up to its name, always wet to the skin - rain or sweatmežikanje

Mokrica and Kompotela: panoramic terrace of Kamnik Alps.

Today along the hunting path from Korošica past the hunting hut and Medvedja jama to Mokrica and further to Kompotela and Košutno. No snow, I had winter gear with me of course, but didn't need it.

From Košutna I found a path to planina Košutna. From the planina a shepherd path, which I hoped would take me back via hunting variant to the hunting hut below Medvedja jama, but the path gradually got lost. So I turned and continued to planina Koren via the lower (unmarked) path and then along the marked path over Markova raven to the car left at the sandpit. Quite a detour...

The sought hunting path actually goes from the saddle below Dedec and traverses horizontally eastwards. I missed it by 150 m.

No snow in this area of course, in KSA it appears somewhere at 2,300 m. On Grintovec I noticed about five hikers.

On the left variant of the hunting path there are more fallen trees, on the right (gentler) considerably fewer.1
The cable on the left path variant is hidden in the foliage, but the grassy slope below it is quite long.2
Medvedja jama is snow-free, our ancestors 30,000 years ago obviously knew how to make fire, they used plastic...3
Passage from the abandoned highland Ovčarija to the slopes below Mokrica.4
After 150 years since the highland Ovčarija was abandoned, the path still leads below Mokrica.5
The grasses over which the path leads are snow-free, but frozen and not too demanding.6
Planina Ovčarija at an altitude of about 1650 m is snow-free.7
From the ridge between Kompotela and Mokrica, a view second to none...8
From Kompotela, snow starts at around 2,300 meters.9
There seems to be more snow in the Julian Alps.10
Snowy cairn on Kompotela, built who knows when, still holding in the cold weather.11
If you look closely, some dots can be seen just below the summit of Grintovec.12
Planina Košutna. The chapel inscription states that an avalanche in 1961 buried a 12-year-old boy.13
Planina Koren with a tavern that is never open. Above, the Jež ridge.14
Lower (unmarked path) from Planina Košutna to Planika Koren. There is no snow anywhere, however.15
From the road past Markova ravnina, Velika Planina is nicely visible in the setting sun.16
New poles leave black traces on hands and gloves. Yuck...17

Hi!
Interested in the path to Mokrica from Kurje doline. Anyone here who can help with route description?
Thanks and take care!

Basically there are three fairly complicated approach variants, the variant past Kovačnica, unfortunately I haven't done either, all lead past Velba..., the direction is very hard to describe in detail, so read Habjan's description of the path to Mokrica from Kurja dolina in the guidebook Less Known Paths of Slovenian Mountains.

Zoran, over 10 years ago my young friend and I were scrambling around there. I remember it was more or less quite "messed up" pathless terrain. A bit of everything, scree, rubble... Then when you reach the ridge it's nice, views... Descent on the other side steep grassy terrain (Ovčarija) then past Medvedje cave to the valley to K. Bistrica and along the right bank, on the path, to the starting point at Jurček. As said, more or less pathless. Good luck!

Yesterday (Friday, June 12) Mokrica via Veliki Krvavec, below Velbom and descent to Korošica via hunting path. I started at Jurju early in the morning and past Plečnik's artwork continued towards Kurja dolina. When the path disappeared, I went along the torrent bed and looked for passages between boulders. Where Veliki Krvavec branches left, I spotted a path on the right side of the gully leading upwards. Probably that's the hunting path running parallel along the ridge; I continued along Veliki Krvavec below Udiranje. Weather was nice, no wind, no frost overnight, so I figured there would be no falling rocks. And indeed there weren't. The gully is mostly fairly passable; here and there you need to be careful on ledges of sand and stones. No fresh collapses. When the gully narrowed towards the top, I looked for a way right to the scree ridge but didn't find it. So I continued on steep crumbly slabs and couloirs that form the last 100m of Veliki Krvavec. If the first 50m scrambling was somehow tolerable, the continuation was much more awkward. From afar the terrain looked like a steep wall of reddish rock. When closer, it turned out to be devilishly steep sand with stacked stones that just look like rock. I pulled some out to make a foothold, once or twice just kicked a hole in the sand. The last few meters were spiced with equally steep grass, so I sighed in relief when at about 1450m I rolled over the edge into the right side gully.

And stepped almost directly onto a small path. Equipped with quite a few cairns it led me through rocky and scree passages. About 100m higher I thought it went through nearly vertical scree, so I climbed up 10m, but looking back realized the path turns sharply right and down through a real tunnel of cut scree. Cairns, or where there were none, passages through cut scree led me on to the ledge below Kompotelo. Along the ledge I crossed above the scree edge (somewhere in the upper third of the ledge) to the gully below the north rib of Mokrica, then again with cairns about 80m down and then right along the chute below Velbom. Before it, left on grassy shelf to fairly steep scree ridge and then straight up through cut scree and on wet steep grass (ice axe helped) to the ridge. To Mokrica summit on the left there were still about 150m of marked path.

Descended via hunting path past the hut and on to the sand pit. Then along forest road to below Farjev plaz. When the road turns sharply right and back, I went straight on cart track, then path and when it got lost under fallen trees another 100m down through forest and then on marked path to Jurju.

I decided on the ascent via Veliki Krvavec after finding description in Alpinistični razgledi 3/1980 and post in old PZS forum (PrimozL, 2010); descriptions of hunting path start seemed unclear to me. AR description doesn't mention serious difficulties in gully, PrimozL warns about ledges below Velbom, which are technically most demanding (II grade). To me the crumbly and very steep gully exit seemed by far the hardest. Higher up I encountered quite a few cairns on the path, scree at key spots probably cut for some time. I assume the lower part of the path is at least approximately marked too, i.e. the one I bypassed via Veliki Krvavec. For approach to Mokrica from this side I'd recommend the path variant from the very start. Ascent over Veliki Krvavec surely makes a fine 1200m tour in winter conditions.

I counted at least 20 cairns. Some are ingenious :).7

Even on the summit slope the brushwood is cut. Otherwise it would be difficult to pass.13

Usually approach along the scree ridge right of the gully, path there is barely trodden. Gully is interesting though quite loose, upper part problematic. Due to friability and clutter descent back there almost impossible.

Thanks both! Regarding descent in summer of course true and I agree. In winter though: first winter repeat by France Malešič way back in 1972 - on descent.

Mokrica from Korošica. Past the hunting hut and up the slope to Mokrica. Then to Kompotelo and back to Korošica. The path start is hard to find, higher up you need to turn right too. The pasture is overgrown, so long pants.

Today up the Korošica valley, past the bear cave to the summit. To the hunting hut the path is bare. Around the bear cave winter conditions, without crampons it won't go, further to the summit recommended. Not much new snow, still quite some old snow, upper part quite windblown.

How's the road to the starting point or where did you start walking?

You can start from Markova raven, then turn left over little bridge and do a slightly longer loop on south path, since straight up Korošica valley is landslide area and you'll walk at least 900m to start. If starting at sand pit go straight up Korošica valley to start. Road here OK, gravel as gravel, go slower, reachable with 2WD too. Don't forget crampons, good luck.

@bini I started from the lower cable car station. The road to the sandpit is otherwise normally drivable. On Friday it was closed a bit before the fork to Markova raven due to forestry works.
