but do you think only atomiac was there? believe me, I was there in the inn and locals told me that it bothers them too. Believe me, Croats are not so brainwashed as us. and that's why I respect them, although as a neighbor I don't like them.

I browsed a bit through partisan history and it was SOMETHING LIKE THIS: 2nd brigade of the 13th Primorsko-Goranska Division in the night from 19 to 20.2.1944 carried out at extremely low temperatures and snowstorm a march from Drežnica area to Mrkopolje area 52 km long...On Matić polje 26 partisans froze, while 150 had permanent consequences due to frostbite...Many more would have frozen but they ,,nicely covered it up,,... March commander Viktor Bubanj born 1918 was soon after the march replaced due to wrong decision - decision changed but as was the ,,logic,, of that time he still advanced quickly after the war.... and even reached in 1970 as general-colonel of aviation actually the highest position - chief of general staff of former JLA and shortly after in 1972 at age 54 died... Kipe was created after the war in memory of the tragic event by sculptor Zdenko Sila, who got inspiration from stones on one of the neighboring mountain fields. After the deceased general and chief Bubanj a military shooting range is named - so-called Bubanj - stream along Belgrade - Niš highway and I remember it well since during military service also in harsh winter 1982/83 about 15 times I also ,,marched,, there and of course back total length of a small half-marathon approx. 21 km from the barracks in Voždovac 4.julij to shootings and trainings... Really shitty history in all respects, but still I described it Regards bruny

My intention wasn't to mock the movement that was on the allied side during the war. I won't say it liberated us, because without the other allies who crushed Nazism they couldn't have done anything either. Actually I was mocking modern (so-called) art.

@VanSims, the (so-called) art of the mentioned monument at Matić poljana is easier to understand after a full day of climbing similar towers of Samarske or White Walls. I recommend it to everyone who likes to use not only their legs in the hills.

The author of the monuments Zdenko Sila was an architect and not a sculptor as I wrongly wrote... I don't know, but I assume he did a good job after all when with the help of architecture, placement in space and materials he found in the immediate natural surroundings he created these shapes... The political bigwigs of that time - those were mainly party secretaries - wanted to build monumental monsters, because money for that was always available in those times, as much as they wanted... A monument of five, six partisans, female partisans and even a horse on top with a rifle in the left hand and a bomb in the right with shining faces, piercing eyes, Tito cap on the head... from some completely foreign stone would be a much bigger foreign body in this space... Modern art, yes or no but already today the vast majority of visitors from the younger generation unburdened by bloody past see in these sculptures little Easter Islands, forma viva or something similar...

Today on the path along the western ridge of Lobnica I saw a monument to the partisan patrol that killed two German gendarmes there. I don't deny the NOB movement, but I question the sense of erecting a monument to this 'heroic' deed. Of course it's right that they beat the Germans but that the fight would end differently with such superiority would be a shame. That one in the first picture of this thread I saw today on Pohorje. We pass by it even if we go from Šumik along the hiking trail to Areh.

Yesterday at Zelenica. Memorial plaques for avalanche victims of 1977 and decades before - border guards.

These two memorials do not belong to the category of NOB memorials but are still monuments to people who found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time not by their own will. In GRS Bulletin on p.7 I published a summary of those events. http://www.grs-trzic.si/images/stories/Dokumenti/Bilten/gorski_resevalec_1.pdf PS:After the events of 1991 someone violently removed the memorial plaque to the deceased border guards but we found it nearby undamaged and returned it to its place. I think the young boys who were involved in the accident not by their own will did not deserve that and now that passions have calmed a bit it bothers no one. In PV 1963/7 pp.309-312 the accident was also described by Jesenice rescuer Ciril Praček. http://www.planinskivestnik.com/files/File/PV_1963_07.pdf#page=7
