Yes, you're all right.
This is the lowest pass over Velebit(928m), Oštarijska vrata/Stara vrata/Vrata. The monument at this pass was put up in memory of the construction of the Gospić-Karlobag road(1844÷1850) by its first builder major Knežić in 1847. After his death his relative Kekić continued the works, that's why the road is called Knežić-Kekićeva road. The monument is called KUBUS(CUBE or CLOCK). With my son we went through there when we were cycling to Pag island. Descent to the sea was pure pleasure.

Gorenjska still tabula rasa when it comes to good pizzas. The best example I ate was in Kranjska Gora pink hotel Prisank.

A few years ago they had good pizzas, don't know how it is now.
But good spot for quenching thirst with hop drinks, after long tours above Vrata.

The pink in Kr Gora is no longer there, meanwhile in Kot they still have decent pizzas ..

You'll have to go through other gates, on the Triglav road anyway you won't feed the horse. Horses don't like pizzas anyway. Squirrels like them though. And skiers and other such masters.

A slightly wider view - more familiar now?
The path is not hidden at all, it is also described on hribi.net
It is probably a bit less crowded.
Elevation difference along the described path is almost 1000m. The goal is one of the points of the Slovenian Mountain Trail.
The path itself, along which there are mangers, is not part of SPP.
