Parking Ravenska Kočna and fine

As long as people leave their money in the huts anyway, it'll stay like this. They're bursting at the seams everywhere. So here the municipal guys are happy, hut keepers even more so with their inflated prices.

Here you can see that they would charge for empty nothing work, unless it's the start of an investment and they will gradually fix roads, parking lots.... where will all those vehicles go if half the traffic decreases through the barrier, where will they park, roadside and on forest paths..... what I saw they made some parking lots before the barrier, probably for 30 cars+.

I agree with Bojan. The barrier turns many away. I think here with us. And also, what I saw in Vrata valley years ago, I still have it before my eyes, when that TNP guy at 22 in the evening walked from car to car and shone into every car. I happened to be sitting in the vehicle because I came late from the hike. Right at the neighboring vehicle there were three inside and I won't forget he pulled one out of the car. Such attitude that you just stare. He shone everything on me too, caught me sleeping in the shack, that's what he said. But I didn't go. You get a bitter taste from such treatment by the TNP guard. They say you can't sleep in the vehicle. But I did anyway. I just want to say that with such really grim approach, they solve nothing. Now I don't know if they still do it. Anyway I haven't been there for a few years. Doesn't draw me there either.

They know how to nag for really small almost insignificant trifles, meanwhile the forest is plundered (besides sick trees healthy ones are cut too) and destroyed with new skidders or even between felled stumps with heavy tractor making ruts for 10+ year damage. Not to mention the piled wood they drag down and push into piles (if only sick trees were cut, but healthy ones too, bigger pile), that undergrowth 10-20m away damaged...... Looks like they haven't heard of cable cars, if they care so much about nature. And then TNP supervisor writes me some warning because I parked the car sideways by the road on the former parking lot.... Easiest to go after hikers, tourists and then such stories when one or more people go to shit behind a spruce. Last year I found only one bottle (fell from someone's backpack, full of water) above pl.Kuhnijo no trash elsewhere as I return so late. Looks like some deliberately litter to photograph and send to journalists, all on purpose.

I would add something to your comments. I think what they did on Jezersko they did completely justified and FAIR. I myself have experienced several times when returning on foot from the tour and drivers passed me without reduced speed (extremely rude), that you inhale dust and they don't care a bit for others and for the people living there. Everyone is given the option to use the free parking half an hour walk earlier which is before the barrier. I myself never parked at the "end" as I liked to warm up a bit to the start of the ascent. And we go to the mountains in free time and no need to drive almost to the top with the car. What kind of "mountaineers" are you when half an hour walk is too much? And nice mountaineer's greeting. Tone.

You have a hiking trail nearby; there you can't go by car, so no one can question you either.

Do you think that the one who pays 10€ now won't drive rudely and fast past so that you inhale dust?
If I drive to the parking in Ravenska it's not almost the top. It's not even about it being hard to walk, but about principle. Setting up the ramp and charging doesn't solve anything. Ok a bit less traffic but I was up there 4x this June/July and the parking was never packed full, I was even surprised. August is anyway crowded everywhere.

You don't need to walk on the car road, as the "green" trail in the picture is a hiking one where you can't go by car.

Interesting how paid parking under mountains bothers you. Those at the coast or in cities nobody mentions. And there they cash in fully for years. Only under mountains they should welcome you with a smile and free parking. About something similar on the previously mentioned locations you don't think.
But I think they could (maybe they will) arrange a dust-free road to these paid parkings, friendly for pedestrians and cyclists, add some mobile toilet and bench and sometimes turn a blind eye if someone overnight stays in the car. In Italy they are really more lenient about that.

You've pointed out several times that on hribi.net they don't talk about paid parking in cities. Maybe because the forum is for mountains. But if needed to say something about city parking, I can easily say that I live in the city, don't use public transport and only exceptionally pay parking. In cities there are official parking spots that don't need payment - some for short-term, others not time-limited. Sometimes you get angry when circling streets multiple times before finding parking, sometimes park a bit farther and walk. Of course it happens that you have urgent errand and pay not just the cheapest roadside but even drive into a garage. On average I spend yearly for parking fees at trailheads in Slovenia 10x more than for city parking, but I spend 90% time in city. I have to admit honestly that I'm lucky and for work time don't pay parking, but still the ratio is a bit odd, don't you think?

Here all sorts of things are commented that have no connection to mountains. nasmeh Especially in recent years.
I have pointed out several times the different attitude to paid parking in cities and at mountain trailheads, and I will again. Because I don't think it's fair that locals under mountains are constantly criticized. Of course it bothers me too because almost everywhere it's paid now. But why should it be free only under mountains? Introduce free parking weekdays in cities and weekends under mountains. And let's see what comes of it.
But of course I meant those who don't live in the city and don't have free parking during work. But maybe live in Mojstrana, Bohinj, Jezersko,... It's not fair to them that everyone parks free there but they would have to pay when visiting city or coast.

I don't know if "mountain lover" has ever gone on that path he claims has no dust and traffic there. True, no "traffic" and the path is in such bad shape you're wet to the knees from morning dew, afternoon or evening eaten alive by bugs, and can't even do it by bike. How that local with the farm there is happy swallowing dust daily, any reasonable person can figure out, and I say they've held out a long time. Nice mountaineering greeting to all. LP Tone.

Those from Mojstrana etc. have to pay in the city just like I do or not pay. I have no special privileges, while residents in villages or places under the mountains often have free access to parking at the starting point and parking. Like e.g. on Blato, on Jezersko etc. I haven't noticed residents in cities getting anything for free. Even more, those who didn't buy or couldn't buy a parking spot or garage have to pay for street parking in their area and that annual payment doesn't apply to parking anywhere in the municipality, but only on their or maybe the next street. So when I drive to the center and want to park, the same rules apply to me as to a Jezersko guy or Bohinj guy who comes to Ljubljana and wants to park. When I come to them, their perks don't apply to me.
And so it's not misunderstood, I have nothing against them having benefits, but it seems a bit (actually quite) stupid to overpay astronomical parking fees at starting points, because of which the situation doesn't improve, but the money is spent who knows where. And also, if you're going climbing to Trikot, it's clear I'd rather risk the fine and park at the cable car than carry all the gear half an hour longer, and it's also more sensible for safety reasons. If you're going for a short stroll, maybe it's okay to walk a bit longer along the (white road) valley.

dprapr, of course, the law is universal, applies to the whole country, no exceptions. I wrote "law on parking" not "law on parking in the mountains" cool

"I haven't noticed residents in cities getting anything for free."
Just like locals at starting points have the privilege of opening barriers and thus free parking.
To Trikot from the Jezersko side it's really not far. We've approached from Logarska too. nasmeh

I just give a big thumbs up here to "palček plezalček"'s thinking. True Drago, even in cities there are paid parkings but you always have affordable alternatives too. For the mountains our mayors have obviously decided to shear us bare. Sorry, but it really pisses me off when they write in the brochure that in the spirit of calming and solving the problem they're introducing parking fees, but in practice they just put a meter or barrier. That's not it! And don't talk about various buses etc. that are useless to a normal hiker - read what they offer on Jezersko - for goats.. Seriously I think they don't even intend to offer smart alternative transports basically, but just offer them enough to wash their hands and a few "day foreign" tourists are maximally happy because they saved 5 EUR. Do we even realize that actually for every alpine valley, starting point, pass, anything that has a bit more visitors on weekends, paying who knows what tolls and parkings is looming, possibly on "dusty parking under the spruce" and then they bitch that people pee in the woods. But to put up one normal toilet (not an abandoned, shitty and goat-pissed dixie that I wouldn't enter even if someone holds a gun to my head) that they don't. And god forbid they take a step towards us regular visitors of our mountains and offer us a smart alternative. In the USA, which we supposedly hate so much, they have 63 national parks - entry fee per car to one park up to 30 usd but pay attention - annual pass for all parks, unlimited visits for #two card owners costs 80 usd - no additional parkings and stupid "environmental contributions" - Verified twice - and rangers aren't there to chase you - but to help you. I'm not that badly "economically weak" but it fucking annoys me when they rip me off. I've been to Ravenska Kočna many times, sure I'll go again but for every visit I'll think twice. And so far on Jezersko we've always left some euro at locals but in the future I'm not sure anymore. Just like I figured out you can live without the Bohinj end too - which 20 years ago I couldn't imagine. Kranjska Gora mayor is whining today "Vršič should be paid" that's chaos - Vrata Valley we know will soon be only for tourists who come once and treat themselves, everyone rages that it leads nowhere on the other hand STA PZS TNP and similar institutions promote Slovenia as sustainable destination! My ass!!!! If you care so much about the environment, go to fairs pay all magazines and "influencers" and say "Don't come to us cuz we have chaos!" 3 km of road on Vršič they renovated for one year - shame, around most high mountain huts it stinks like a cesspit cuz they can't fix the shitter they sell you canned beer for 5 EUR and say you should be happy cuz you're in a hut!!! WTF. In Bc you wait half an hour for bread and milk in Merkator and in the end they'll advise us like before corona - Come off season!! Sure we'll come, and I'll make sure no extra euro falls into the municipal pocket. Sorry for the whole post if it's offensive to anyone, but simply the direction everything is moving really doesn't smell good to me, and once again! I'm not stingy like a Jew and I have no problem contributing something "for sustainable destination" but let it be in the spirit how all tourism workers should operate. "visitor/tourist must go home happy and without money not pissed off and with full wallet"

dprapr, not true.

In Ljubljana locals have no parking privileges compared to outsiders. I live in LJ and I'm not entitled to any privileges or discounts on parking ... except of course that I can bike into the city.

Yeah - around UKC until this year parking was 0.8 EUR/hour - a few-hour visit cost similar with car as with trolley and car was infinitely more comfortable. nasmeh
This year they raised to 1.20/hour, we quickly calculated that trolley is suddenly much cheaper and with all-around price hikes elsewhere fun with car in center is over.

Unfortunately it's like that high parking fees with limited number of green parking spots serve to make profit and deter at the same time and succeed at both which seems paradoxical but comes from too much demand vs supply. That parking fees would rise in city was just question of time and now it is and I think it will work on hiking starting points too. Well, at least for me (after all parking fees deterred me from Bohinj parkings long ago). For those whom such system "squeezes" too much, of course it's not good ... mrk pogled

I'm from east Slovenia and it takes me 2.5 hours to drive to Ravenska Kočna. I understand the 100 vehicle limit, ok I won't go to those areas that I otherwise visit several times a year, since parking will likely be full before I get there. But what bothers me a lot is:

1.that parking is paid even e.g. in autumn and winter months when there's few visitors there

2.that parking fee is charged per day, so if you maybe overnight at Češka koča or Ledine that's already 20 EUR and that's a solid amount for a pensioner's pocket (I didn't mention fuel costs on purpose!!)

Now they're talking about Kamp tura. Gradiško tura. There too the mayor is thinking about parking fees. If councilors vote yes it'll be paid parking. Prospects are dragging ....
