Path over Kozjak.

Since we plan to hike part of the "Path over Kozjak" in June, starting in Dravograd, we're interested where between Košenjak and Žavčarev vrh there is any possibility of overnight stay and food?
Thanks in advance for any information.

Hello, when I planned to hike this trail (at the same time cross Drava in Maribor and return via Pohorje to Dravograd, I reviewed the entire trail again by stages, although I hiked it a few years ago. Every year something actually happens on the trail. A new logging trail is dug, then ice storms, thunderstorms and the trail changes from the set route. Regarding food, you can't 100% rely on huts so I organized supplies myself on the way. We didn't need accommodations as we hiked continuously. As far as I know you can eat something under Bricnik at Glavar, at Žohar, of course if you go the lower KPP route. Possible at Radlje border crossing in the kiosk. At Remšnik, in Gradišče village, hope I wrote correctly, writing from memory, at Ostri vrh, there's also farm tourism, I think they have accommodations too. In Kapla something can be found too. Žavčarev dom, (here despite heavy rain we had no luck).

Nicest is to hike on the Austrian side, it's nicer and better maintained trail. That's it, if you plan to hike only part of the trail, you don't need any of this. Regards.

Some unverified options:
- Gostišče Žohar Št. Janž nad Radljami 87
- On Kapunar there is a former guard post which I think is maintained by radio club Radlje ob Dravi, Radelca 23
- Lovski dom Kapla - hunting family Kapla

No farm tourism with accommodations in this area. Hope I was at least a little helpful!

PD Matica Maribor has newly marked the original Slovenian trail over Kozjak from Maribor to the Remšnik border crossing. Continuation to Dravograd still to follow.

If no accommodation & food on Slovenian side (locals, farmers etc.) can try on Austrian side.

Now don't know how fast you will be but if you do 40 km/day recommend Tertinek inn on Austrian side with panoramic view on Koralpe etc.

Košenjak, Kozjak, Maribor

After a short break, (I changed clothes and shoes, before I arranged with my son who waited for me with gear at the station in Dravograd. Also some drinks and fresh food were in the luggage. I left Dravograd completely "new". Now, when Zvoneto and I were alone, we went at moderate pace, before dark we reached Košenjak. Descended to Lovska koča, refilled water, steep descent to road, then along road to Pernic. Here we stopped at Piknik and were well served by the guys who had plenty of everything. We each ate a portion of (picnic) food, washed it down well and headed to Bistriški Jarek. (Thanks guys for the service). Ascent to Sv. Primož. Later followed wet, muddy descent to Žohar, bright side of this path is new bridge and new marks. After Kapunar we turned to Austrian side and hiked along border to Ostri vrh. Here we ordered lunch. Followed another unpleasant descent. Two years ago the whole path was poorly marked, this time good. Ascent to Žavčarjev vrh we did by road. Followed descent to Tojzlov vrh, first time I hiked this path. Past Gaja to Maribor, So Zvoneto and I hiked the trail in memory of Ivan. Rain left us "in peace", except on ascent to Ostri vrh.

It was visible on the trail. Two years ago when Romana and I were on reconnaissance tour, we searched and asked a lot. Downside of markers is they hardly agree on a common day for field work. So years pass before something gets done.

Was on two-day trip on KPP from Dravograd to Žohar. To Košenjak trail OK from summit to "Piramide" l.k. direct on hunting path, further trail lost at some places also due to timber extraction to Lonhtera. Further to Pernic on gravel nothing special except sign for bigfooteek In Pernic before church trail directs down past collapsed house (mark on beam and then on linden. Here trail lost, as I searched went quite some height down and searched at forest edge. In end back up to church mrk pogledand on "M" path at monument and behind church to Bistriški jarek pass to mill and Muta border crossing. From here on to Sv. Jernej. This part also "M" has same goal, because I don't believe you'd find KPP at all. At Ižek farm got info where trail is but weather worsens and I find ideal shelter for one personnasmehunder farm on meadow. Morning on very bad path to stream to road, single mark at stream before crossing it and look marks direct me right (after bad hour of hiking ask farmer and he shows Primož diagonally over hill which goes to Muta 8 km) nothing, back same path and at Glavar drink two beers. Normal to Sitarji, only before that trail directs to Tri Kralje left but we stick right and down. At Sitarji ask for my path, as it goes to Radlje directs me left over pasture to ravine, but since nowhere to go simply go and avoid grass, nettles but happily reach l.k.From here even bigger crap trailvelik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmeh. Better by road which is longer but arrive same time to Žohar. This trail part suitable when no vegetation. On whole trail no place to overnight, about farm tourism can only dream (see TIC MB what they offer info 15 years old and more good luck

From Košenjak past the church of St. Urban to Pernic there is a nice path (border path) directly along the border.

I think it's even marked.

When you hike this path in the rain or early in the morning, it won't seem nice to you. Regarding the marking of the path. I check every path beforehand, when it gets serious I have to be sure what I'm dealing with.

From Košenjak a marked path goes along the ridge to St. Urban and you reach Pernice, I hiked on KPP.

No, because at the Lohnter farm there is stamp no.13 KPP, but if you go over the top it's also a nicer path in my opinion, you don't need to walk the gravel road to Pernic and it's also somewhat shorter. Lp

path, Košenjak, Urban, Knez and bistriški jarek, past the mill is KPP. The lower one is Kozjaška, which runs a bit further south.
The entire KPP, from mark to mark, I hiked years ago in one go, without sleeping, in 67 h. 10 years ago in three stages. Of course I did many shorter scouting trips for both paths. Lp.

Hello! I still want to hike the path over Kozjak this year. I'm asking you, if any of you who has already hiked it would be willing to repeat it with me? Can be two-day at once, or also in stages....

I'm looking for someone with whom I could hike this path over Kozjak. Does anyone know someone, who has crossed this path or would go? If not, I'll have to go alone and I'm sure it won't be easy....

Over Kobansko, that will be a problem? You can even pick mushrooms along the way and stroll through the forest. In between on some farm help someone fell a spruce.

MARIBOR--DRAVOGRAD

We had something big in our "pack", Not many of us gathered, even two is enough. We were four. We cheerfully dashed along the path, when it got dark we solved the problem with headlamps. At Gaj a dog joined us who despite shooing accompanied us to Žavcarjev dom. Above us the sky was strewn with stars, the moon too was traveling west where there were clouds. Ostri vrh we admire from almost all directions. Those few hours of darkness pass quickly for us. No breakfast on the Austrian side, we were too early. Here we also spot a strong windbreak. In nice weather the kms pass. At the border crossing we settle for fresh Coke and napolitankas. We devise an alternative spot to fill our stomachs. We choose the path to Sv. Jernej. From Bistriški jarek to Pernice silence fell around us. Steepness and heat wipe the smile from our faces. At Knezu we take the lower path to the church at Ostrica. At this spot the thunderstorm forces us to shelter from rain. The downpour isn't strong and stops quickly. The thunderstorm rages around us. On descent to Dravograd the December windbreak adds some extra path. The second downpour is stronger and longer, which we watch dry under a roof at a farm. Here we plan ahead too. We decide to resupply at Tuš as soon as possible and continue. Here Srečko will join us and go with us across Pohorje. We were ready to continue, just waiting for clearing and rain to stop.
