The Pekel Gorge and its five waterfalls (and maybe a few more) are worth a visit even in these cold days, as the waterfalls are frozen and somehow even more beautiful than in the summer months. A really pleasant walk in these winter days.

Sorry, tell me where this gorge is? I don't know it. Near my stay there's Pekel Cave! Best regards

From Vrhnika to Borovnica and on towards Brezovica. Right under the railway and a further couple of km. Asphalted to the end. Otherwise, the description is under "search hikes". LP

The end of the week is the right time for a visit to Pekel Gorge. Snow and rain in the past days have ensured the flow of the waterfalls, and the weekend sun will ensure a nice day. For the mentioned tour, good footwear, poles, and even a helmet are mandatory. PS: on steep slopes there is a risk of slipping.

The trip is also very nice both in summer and winter. But caution is always needed due to mostly slippery terrain (wet or icy in winter - from the 2nd waterfall onwards). The path is steep in a few places but mostly excellently secured (ladders, wire ropes, pegs and steps). I'd rate the path as demanding.

I'm wondering if you accidentally found that Nessi or is this gorge known for it?

Pekel gorge is a sight in itself. Likewise the waterfalls, which now with lots of water are the most beautiful. That tree isn't mentioned anywhere, as far as I know no one has shown it in a picture yet. Maybe also because most people turn back before the fifth waterfall as it's not easily accessible to average tourists. Some caution is needed now for the ascent to the fifth waterfall LP Starakapa

I've been to the top of the fifth waterfall three times but haven't noticed Nessi yet - next time I'll be more attentive hihi

Due to the bad forecast, instead of Košutica, we went to Borovniški Pekel. We were satisfied with the water flow of the waterfalls, as expected after Friday's rain. Otherwise, it's a nice half-day trip, suitable for children up to the third waterfall. The ascent to the 5th waterfall due to wet terrain I recommend only to more experienced hikers. Stane

Does anyone know if the waterfalls are frozen now?

Today visited Pekel gorge for the first time; enthusiastic about part of nature, disappointed about part of people - the path could be (should be) much better marked.

They say, one nail drives out another. And we went, when it finally stopped raining, to see lots of water. Pekel near Borovnica, gorge with five waterfalls, today particularly full of water (for fairly known reasons). Only on the return did we notice on the notice board that the gorge is impassable? The notice is really from January, but the gorge is not impassable. It is passable in both directions, even. Up and down. A bit muddy, caution is needed, as the path is somewhat exposed in places and now a bit muddy, wet roots don't help the certainty of the step, but not impassable. It was completely empty, parking lot included, and the inn was also closed. In short, peace, only water rumbling from everywhere. Only the passage after the 5th waterfall to Hudičev zob is impassable, but as can be read, already long ago. Nice afternoon trip.

Pekel near Borovnica is one of the nicer Slovenian gorges with waterfalls. Due to proximity of Ljubljana it is quite visited. Fortunately during the week somewhat less, which we used, me and Kaja. In these hot days the gorge visit is even more pleasant, as it is cooler here due to water spray and because larger part of gorge is in shade.
