Planina Blato-toll

Mayor needs a solid salary! Isn't it the easiest to get it by fleecing with parking and "whining" on TV? I really wonder what the other Bohinjci get from it, except that the behavior of some "actors" casts a bad light on all the others. Anyway, at Mercator store in Bohinj you pay 1eur in front of the store too. Since locals probably have no choice, they pay too!!??zmeden

or does anyone know if they collect for the road to pl.blato?

p.s. free parking in Bohinj is "arranged" on a meadow at the start of Ribčev Laz, but you need about 10 min. walk to the lake along the main road. It is marked with a sign so you can't miss it.

14 days ago they were still collecting. Even on weekdays.

One week ago (8.10.2007) no one was there. Neither in the morning at 8.00 nor in the afternoon at 17.00 when I went back.

But on Saturday (13.10.2007) it was back in action around 9! Obviously these Bohinjci still need money! We went instead over Komarča to the Seven Lakes and it was just great.

I don't know who thought this up, whether the mayor or the owners. I know though that with the money they collect they could asphalt to the top of Lepo Špičje!

We'll go elsewhere, screw them!!

Wait a bit more, and you'll pay for every conquered mountain or hill goal. Francjezen

Why don't you start asking when they stop collecting parking fees, when you go e.g. with a small child to the hospital in Ljubljana and have nowhere to park - not for money, especially not for free?zmeden

In Lj you have parking garages around hospitals as many as you want, it's true you must pay them, but I always find some free spot, it's true my car isn't GTLX turbo big,...

It gets on my nerves when everyone just asks how it is with toll. If you've got to pay then pay, same as elsewhere, e.g. city parking spots. Obviously toll still not too high, since in season weekends at pl. Blato totally jammed with cars.

Just today I was up; first snow already way down at bottom of Suha valley, 99% of the road is already covered with snow. At ~950m it stopped due to snow (front-wheel drive), it started slipping, so I continued in reverse and reached exactly the parking at pl. Blato. There ~10 cm powder snow.

On 14.12.07 I drove this road to the parking on Planina Blato. Despite the road being almost fully covered with smoothed snow and icy in many places, it is well maintained. So I have no regrets about the money I pay in summer when using the road to the parking and parking the car there (part of the money surely goes for road renewal), since I have to pay even pricier parking also in Ljubljana.

Also on Saturday conditions were similar on the road to Planina Blato. In some places it was slightly icy or there was smoothed snow, otherwise nicely maintained. To be able to drive so high into the heart of the TNP, I happily pay the parking fee in the summer months.

I see it's been a while since this thread was opened. I'm wondering if they collect the toll in September also on weekdays and if it's still 10€?

On Saturday I drove at 5.30 a.m. (it was still dark) past the toll collection point, no one was there yet, and continued on towards Planina Blato. It seems they start collecting around 6.00 or at dawn. mežikanje
This for the weekend... for weekdays I wouldn't dare say, maybe the same or a bit later? I know they still charge 10 euros. Get up early and drive past as early as possible to avoid it. nasmeh

Hm, unfortunately it's not necessarily possible to avoid the payment if no one is there in the morning. Last year I thought the same, as I drove past in the dark (not because of the toll, but for an early start due to a long tour ahead). On the return a little before dusk, there was a rope stretched across the road, and next to it a man collecting toll from those who couldn't show a receipt from the morning... mrk pogled. Not from everyone - obviously a local driving down ahead of me (we started at the same time from the Planina Blato parking lot) waved to the collector they obviously knew, and he smiled, waved back, lowered the rope and pulled it tight again right after him.jezen
