We hiked this route last weekend, definitely the best route to Pogačnikov dom, although the longest. We descended via Gamsovec to Vrata

Hello George! Last year at this time my son and I did a wonderful route that you also have planned; only we started at the parking lot of the 3rd hairpin on Vršič road, where we left one car. We headed to the hut in Krnica and then up via Kriška stena to Bovška vratca. From there down via Kriški podi to Pogačnikov dom. In the afternoon we were already at beautiful Razor and slept in the Dom with friendly girls. Second day down via Bovška vratca, Križ, Bovški gamsovec and Luknja to Vrata, where we had the second car. Returned to 3rd hairpin for son's car. It was a wonderful tour I won't forget for a long time. Wish you nice experience and safe steps too!

The path from Vršič and the path from Kriški podi lead to Planja saddle. From there onwards the path to Razor is CLOSED.

It is passable ... but to Razor it's closed, to the saddle it's passable

The road to Mangart Saddle is also closed, but folks still drive up!!! At their own risk... sing your battle songs!!!

I'm wondering if anyone has done a circular route from Pogačnikov dom, to Bovška vrata, Križ, Stenar, Dovška vrata, Bovški gamsovec, Luknja. How much time should it take for such a route?

It would be circular if you started in Zadnjica or Vrata. Otherwise from Pogačnikov dom it's more logical first to Križ, Stenar, then down to Dovška vrata and further over Gamsovec to Luknja. Well I prefer the reverse direction.

Aha, yeah, I get that. More interested time-wise? I would go tomorrow from Zadnjica to Pogačnikov dom, on Friday morning then on the mentioned route.

From Pogačnikov dom to Križ by markings 1.5 hours. From Križ to Stenar then another good hour and descent to Dovška vrata good half hour (depending on individual). From vrata to Bovški Gamsovec you need one hour and to Luknja another 45 min or so. So the mentioned route in approx 4.5 to 5 hours, without summit breaks. But time depends quite a bit on individual's fitness and conditions so don't hold me to it.

We started still in the dark observing the starry sky. A bit above the forest line dawn starts and here too it looked wonderful observing sunlit peaks, but what when we start ascending over Sovatna and views start slipping towards očaku we notice clouds building up. When we get over Dovška vrata we still spot sunlit goal (can't reach it), which that moment fog engulfs and through it we stroll to snack at Pogačnikov dom, or its bivouac... We decide to try a bit further anyway, maybe it clears... but no, just below Planja saddle rain starts and so we turn, descend along wet cables and rocks back towards Vrata. Mountain will wait for better conditions
