Potoški Stol, Vajnež and Mali vrh

We visited the mentioned peaks with my colleague today. From Žirovnica towards Valvasorjev dom we got by car to approx. 1000 m.a.s.l. (last kilometer with chains).
Further to Valvasorjev dom the path is well trodden, but there's still plenty of snow. We continued towards Urbas to the water intake and turned into the forest there. Just this steepest part through the forest is real torment as the snow sinks deeply. We combined with snowshoes but it's still very strenuous. Above the treeline under Vajnež the snow is firmer, fresh snow is windblown and walking much easier.
First we climbed Potoški Stol, Vajnež and then Mali vrh. Huge cornices along the whole ridge.

Warm weather accompanied us the whole way from Urbas to Potoški Stol. To Urbas the road is dry. Snow starts above the forest line, despite high temperatures it mostly held in the morning. Otherwise snow is no more than 20 cm.
The day was made nicer by ptarmigans. They are really already in completely white plumage.

From Urbas spring along steep path to bivouac at Belščica. Very soon mists came from Stol direction. Quickly I step to Mali vrh and on to Vajnež. Below Vajnež summit a bird flies over me, calling loudly. In mist I don't see well where it sits, then I spot it running along the path in front of me. It was a ptarmigan and higher above the path another one. They have already changed plumage and are not as white as Peter's. I descend lower to grassy slopes among herd of sheep grazing on the pasture. I sit a bit, eat and watch the dance of mists in the wind on Vajnež summit. Nice regards to all

Today from Trilobit hut over planina Seča, through Rida, first to Potoški Stol, then Vajnež and Mali vrh, and back.
On the way to Seča and also on the planina, for local conditions lots of visitors. Mostly heading to Struška (flowering).
Sun, despite fresh air already quite scorching, snow just traces left.
Nice and pleasant day! (it was).nasmeh

Today I did the tour: Trilobit hut - planina Seče, Rida, Mali Vrh, Vajnež, Bivak Belščica, Potoška planina, Obešnik, Malnež, Koroška Bela.
To Seče: dry
Rida: icy, hard (z. equipment mandatory for crossing) no path, almost untracked.
Belščica or transverse mostly snowy. Along the ridge top more suitable (cross some snowfields).
Potoška pl., Spodnji rovti: spring.
Regards!

Nevertheless nice weather coincided with free Sunday, so my wife and I could do a nice circular tour in Karavanke. We started at Trilobit hut towards planina Seča and on to Vajnež. From Vajnež we descended towards Potoški Stol and further down to Valvasorjev dom, where we refreshed a bit and then continued to the starting point.
Snow remnants only further from planina Seča and no problem for walking anymore.

Mali vrh, Vajnež, Potoški Stol... To my joy, my sister decided that we go to Vajnež today (transport). So we went, earlier, because of Žak and Ira. As usual over all three peaks. Views spoiled only by haze. Otherwise it was very pleasantly warm, almost no wind. Sheep already grazing around the "concrete", nice regards Majdanasmeh

From planina Belščica we climbed straight up the grass to Mali vrh. Along the ridge to Vajnež then to Stol. Weather gorgeous, not too hot on summits. Stol of course crowded, on neighboring peaks more peace.

I park near Trilobit hut and head towards planina Seča and on to Vajnež. From Vajnež I step also to Potoški Stol from there back to valley same way. Cold wind blowing and sun hiding more, no warmth. Path lonely and scenic, meet a couple of people only above pl. Seča when already returning. On the way spot some chamois and marmot whistled to alert. It was nice day, nice regards allnasmeh

In the morning I park at Valvasorjev dom from where a crowd is already swarming towards Stol. I prefer to head towards Potoški Stol, then to Vajnež and along the ridge to Mali vrh. On the way back I drop by Prešernova koča and along this gentle path back to Valvasor. The path is very scenic but lonely, enlivened only by sheep herds. At Prešernova koča it's a real anthill from which I quickly fled to the valley.
You certainly can't miss the summit of Vajnež.1

Today after some more demanding tours (Vrtača, Jezerska Kočna and Cima Verde) from Urbas to Potoški Stol and on to Vajnež and Mali vrh. For the start of October you couldn't wish for better conditions.

Today from home in Jesenice I went via Alničje and Stamare to Kamnitnik and Mali vrh. Back through Rida.
On the path between Stamare and Hrašenska planina I turned right at 2/3 towards the dwarf pine clearing, which from the valley looks like a traverse path on the south slope of Kamnitnik. It's also drawn on maps as a path that joins further east the one from Urbas to the bivouac. As I was getting tired of it, at the second gully I decided to continue upwards (whatever happens..). After a short struggle with dwarf pines and easy scrambling it turned out OK. I exited between the bivouac and the shepherd hut. Original goal was just Kamnitnik, so I rested there for half an hour. But it would be a shame not to visit at least the nearest 2000er, so I went to Mali vrh. What's that extra that summits over 2000 m offer? Simple answer: ideal view of course.
Back through partly snowy, icy Rida, but winter gear not needed yet. From tomorrow it should be different.
Above 1500 larches are golden.
I don't recommend the mentioned path (I think hunting path), which traverses the slope eastwards through dwarf pines, as it just tires unnecessarily.

Yesterday I headed to Vajnež, namely from Trilobit home via Stamare planina, past Hrašenska planina to Kamnitnik and over Mali vrh along the ridge to Vajnež. Where and why it ended prematurely here?
http://stezeinsledi.blogspot.com/2014/11/ko-2102-m-visoki-vajnez-ni-dosezen.html

Path to the traverse path without issues, higher up wet and slippery with snow patches, very windy and cold. Well, today of course much more snow.
Safe travels on paths that will be snowier day by daynasmeh

Yesterday I completed the unfinished autumn tour. Up via Stamare and Srednica planinas and along the lower path to the summit, down first along the ridge and over Mali vrh then through Rida and Medji dol. Caution needed only when crossing the first gully where snow lingers, otherwise path without issues. How it was and track recording on the link.

Today I decided on a tour along Belščica, which was more than excellent. I started from Dom Trilobit, then via Planina Seča and Ride continued traversing the slopes of Belščica all the way to Potoški Stol. In this section, especially below Mali vrh, there are some short snowfields, but with caution they pose no major issues, and they can be bypassed by climbing straight to the ridge. From Potoški Stol I went to Vajnež and along the ridge to Mali vrh, where I descended traversely also to Kamnitnik and then back the same way to the starting point.

Beautiful photos!

I myself have a question; I'm interested if anyone knows approximately how much time (roughly) would be needed from Belska planina to Vajnež (probably possible along that path leading from Belska towards Seča all the way to Vajnež? I looked at the Jesenice municipality map where some path is marked)?

Thanks a lot for the answer nasmeh

Today from Potoška planina to bivouac on Belščica and further to Potoški Stol. After a short break then to Vajnež and further along the ridge and descent to Kamnitnik. From there to bivouac and further to the start. In the morning there was still some snow, which by afternoon had mostly melted. The path itself without special features. Views wonderful, no crowds on the path.

On Sunday we set off from Valvazor Hut towards Stol, but turned left to Potoški Stol on the Slovenian mountain path. The path was quite slippery, as it had rained overnight and in the morning. But it went okay, despite forgotten boots... On Potoški Stol there is a nice view to the Austrian side, towards Celovska Hut, Ovči vrh, and Vajnež is already quite close. A short descent and one ascent, and we were already on the second two-thousander, Vajnež. A few mists were drifting about, there was some sun. We saw Bled and the lake, but visibility was not the best. We descended towards the bivouac on Belščica, a steep descent, it was sliding on wet roots. Short stop at Valvazor Hut, we simply had to try the strudel and Pavlina's cake, it would have been a shame not to...
