When I wrote that everyone should calculate how much it costs them AT HOME, I didn't mean the place they come from, but home - household. Washing bedding, going to the store, making breakfast and dinner... My post was aimed at the opinion that huts here are expensive in summer..., I don't know what's impatient about that. Ask the keepers how much they've "earned" this year with the weather as it was. I agree that price lists must match. Regards.

Today I ordered beer in some hut. And while drinking it I look at the can and think, ah again those basketball gimmicks for the world championship. Then I look closer and see eurobasket written. Of course the beer was from last season and accordingly expired by 2 months. I've drunk expired beer before and know it doesn't harm, but if you pay 4 euros for it it's unacceptable. Can't imagine selling drinks past expiry in restaurants or shops, even at discount. What would the inspection say, which requires signs at the highest mtn. stations, where above are only rocks, warning that water is not potable

Far from wanting to trigger a new wave of commenting but actually do they really sell canned beer for 7.5 eur in the huts around Triglav? Haven't shown up there for quite a few years, and it looks like I won't for a long time (never again?)..

Ha, for me it can even be 10. But I agree that hikers who go to the mountains only once or twice a year can justifiably afford it. I'm really curious how much the guy sells it for at Aljaž Tower.

Matija, not only huts under Triglav, it's now standard at most in JA. At Komna and under Bogatin beer likewise 7 EUR, radler 6.5 EUR

Hasn't beer at these huts always had high prices? I don't remember it being any different in the past. And as Tone wrote, it doesn't move me.

Last year the caretaker of one hut, I won't name it on purpose, said something like this:
If we buy goods for 5,000 eur, then we pay 2,500 eur for helicopter transport. Before I throw a log into the stove I ask myself if it's already the right time, because that is also brought up there and paid for. Well today the mountains are simply no longer cheap, like in the time of my youth.

bo_zl: If they buy 5,000€ of beer and sell it at 7€, no one will lecture me that they don't make huge profit. But when I ordered a liter of water at Kredarica, he said half a liter. Well then two half-liter bottles, I replied. Then he says they have very little stock and if I demand it, he'll just give me the whole liter. Of course water is cheaper and not enough profit, if I ordered 10 beers he'd get them no problem. True helicopter costs, but paying 7€ for one can is too much, not to mention water

So they buy 5000 beers for 5000€, for the helicopter they spend 2500€...5000x7.5€ is 37,500€. In short...I think they're not doing badly.

I don't go to high mountains anymore, not because of the price, but because of modern hikers.

Yeah but they also charge quite a bit for the rest of the stuff. For example a liter and a half of non-carbonated Radenska in Interspar 0.65 EUR, on Kredarica 7 EUR.
There's quite a lot of Slovenian high mountains and it's not crowded everywhere. In many places you only meet a few people on the trail or even none. That the mere possibility of briefly encountering a "modern-day hiker" would deter you from visiting the high mountains, your misanthropy must really be at a high level. Or maybe the real reason lies in your laziness and "modern hikers" are just a convenient excuse? Who knows.

Just a "minor" update. For beer at the beginning of this month on Kredarica I paid 8 (eight) euros. Really quenches thirst well, one is enough.
Last year in Austria, almost a kilometer higher, for a cold large draft 6 euros.
I don't know where the euros go from all this added value after paying for the helicopter, but I know where they don't go. Toilets are a complete disaster.

Trobec, you're calculating incorrectly. 5000 eur worth of beer isn't 5000 units, that's the difference. 5000 cans, 24 per pack, comes to 208 packs; I have no idea how many trips that is. Also consider, besides transport, the costs of staff, operations and maintenance of the hut... I think there's no big profit here.
