Psychopaths in the mountains

Hi,

I'm wondering if you've ever run into any weird people while hiking in the mountains? It's happened to me a couple of times already that I met someone who made me feel really bad. Some examples:

- From afar I see someone standing by the path, when I go past him and greet (of course he doesn't greet back), the guy goes without a word right behind me, so close I almost feel his breath on my neck. Luckily I can go very fast too, so I shake him off after about 100m. All that time I felt really uncomfortable.
- Recently someone in military pants: similar situation, guy stares weirdly, doesn't say anything, when I get close to him he comes toward me, then a few steps behind me, and stops.
- Some time ago: I meet a guy just with an axe in hand, nobody around, has nothing else on him at around 1400m height, in the forest. Doesn't greet back either and just stares at me. Didn't look like he was cleaning or tidying up anything.

Don't know how a woman would feel going alone like that into the mountains, but even I felt pretty tense. And physically I'm not exactly weak, but if someone follows right behind you wordlessly, you start thinking what if ...

Any similar experiences?

Wow interesting, I walk a lot alone on ridges, but such "weird" people as you describe I haven't met yet. It has happened that someone turned aside at my greeting, moved away at my address; they just wanted silence. So I went quickly ahead so as not to disturb their peace. People are different and that needs to be respected. For now I feel safe, although two years ago an older volunteer gentleman on Dolgi hrbet replied that he understands I'm not afraid, however there are people in the mountains too.

I'll continue walking to my beloved mountains.

Yes, one more thing, last year someone really stole or borrowed indefinitely my hiking poles at the entrance to the climbing part of Jezerska Kočna. On return they sadly weren't where I left them. May they serve him.

Be nice to me,

Saša

Last year we went from Kredarica to Vrata and a bit above Stanič we met a guy, "ideally" equipped for high mountains:
-was in "sports bra"eek
-tight "jeans"eek
-wore Dr. Martens (leather boots with metal cap)eek
-over shoulder had a harnesseek

Well, let me add too, of course it wasn't a psychopath, but an unusual person in the mountains. About 18 years ago, year up or down, one day I'm returning from Triglav via Hribarice towards Prehodavci and when I start descending towards the valley of 7th lake I meet a chimney sweep, a real chimney sweep, dressed in black clothes and with all necessary props for chimney cleaning. We even spoke a few words and, as he told me, that day he had to clean the chimney in the hut at Dolič and Planika. Later I never met him again. The event will stay in my memory till the end of life. Of course later I met very different types, but this chimney sweep was something special.

Weirdos are mostly found in lower hills near cities. At the start of paths like Iški Vintgar-Vrbica Kokr etc. E.g. at the sight of Votli Kamen, a naked older gentleman with a youth beside him. And čevapčiči makers who grill their čevapčiči in Vintgar and leave mess. In Črnuščica valley under Rašica, one dude works out in forest and pulls up on branch, has German shepherd beside him, when you pass he asks if you're looking for something. Besides, there nearby are full fields where jugoviči party and leave whole landfills behind! And where soon I'll be the weirdo and start chasing people with motorbike who do that! velik nasmeh Center of weirdos is Sava riverbank! Where a pederast solicited me and forced me to go to his car for a joke! And where you find darker men standing in middle of forest by tree waiting god knows what. If you go over Sava bridge and look towards Sava, you'll easily see someone showing you his assets. Heard also here about a case where he showed it to kids! Someone should do something about that!

Here one lives right in Pržanjski forest. Usually dressed in military rags, bearded with long hair, sometimes I see him with bike, sometimes walking. He is quite solitary and rarely talkative. Of course I know him from childhood days, as older peer, we baked in forest in circle of friends, played. His brother became ordinary civilian citizen, went to work, he rejected everything earthly, except nature which means everything in life to him. Looks like Rambo and says he goes to forest, since among these material weirdos-people he can't get along. Sometimes carries some treat stock bags from shop to forest and sleeps there too. Made somewhere in forest also small hut to crawl into. Even in winter I regularly meet him when I go for nearby usual walk. Nothing gets to him, not cold, not snow, not prolonged rain and says he's used to everything in forest and takes it all as part of nature and that it has to be like that. velik nasmeh

The worst that happens to me in the mountains is . . . every year a few times this happens to me . . . that I meet myself. Usually I meet myself when I least expect it and almost never when I want to. So these meetings of me with myself aren't always pleasant zavijanje z očmi

viharnik, is it the bearded and longer-haired guy, usually with one or two bags in hand? Early in the morning sometimes I see him by Celovška, wearing rubber boots and what surprises me most, he walks very fast and determined like few today who have a clear goal set aheadnasmeh

I think folks who don't behave exactly by the norms but don't harm others with their actions and also out-of-season dressed hikers don't yet deserve the psychopath label.

Everyone can have a bad day sometimes...
That's when we seek peace and quiet in the forest, mountains,...
Wouldn't write my adventure at Lovrenske Lakes on Pohorje.
Middle-aged guy, longer hair, beard and military rags was at 7.00am "jerking off" in the lookout tower...
All fine and good if he's there - but when some are annoying I withdraw. If the other doesn't move then I chop velik nasmehcool

No, Pinkerton, this one's an older vagabond, usually in work overalls and rubber boots. Once in winter I spotted him at -10°C with pants worn out the whole butteek. He strolls from Vižmarje to Mercator center up and down, stops and goes back 10m or so and repeats the other wayzmeden. In Vižmarje he has a totally abandoned house, on the lot Fičko flipped over already 15 years. He came from abroad, married into that house. With wife they made some wooden birdhouses and other wood decor, then neighbors say wife died in unexplained circumstances, she fell. Some say maybe his fault but never investigated. Left him the house which he never cared for since.
I respect honest people who are part of nature and have nothing against where and how they live. Let every person live by their conviction and inner satisfaction even in the forest.nasmeh

Yeah yeah when fog and bad weather set in we mountaineers start "spinning yarns".
Hope nobody remembered me in "mountaineering" gear 30 years ago!
Best to all and sunshine soon!
