Today ascent to Razor from Krnica. Path through Kriška stena is snow-free, on eastern part of Razor where approach goes, it's soft enough for making steps. Some snow still from Planja saddle to hut, but can bypass it. Noon quite quick clouding with strong wind, calmed in afternoon.

If anyone goes here and finds a phone, please message. Brother lost it somewhere below Razor towards Indijanec.

Try once direct from Šplevta to Razor.

Great Julijec! Descent via ascent route?

We went direct from Šplevta and it's really a proper mountaineering approach.

Hehe Ločanka, same, few minutes later the summit closed with clouds.

Brother descended via ascent route cuz he tried to find phone, I chose safer path via Pogačnik.

Unstable summer weather prevents us from longer challenges, so we diligently visit home mountains. Especially those we haven't been to for a really long time, one is Razor. No access is really short, we chose one with least driving velik nasmeh.

Started at *Russian Cross* on Vršič road, headed to Krnica and via Kriška stena to upper plateau. Stop at Pogačnik hut on Kriški podi and up hot slopes to Razor. Know mini ferrata to summit, can call it short and sweet nasmeh. Then return to saddle, Vršič direction and descent north slopes Razor to meadow with path split. There followed lower path to Mlinarica and after hot humid traverse joined upper path to Vršič. Then descent old road to Tonka's hut, bit of asphalt and shortcut to third bend. There spotted car and finished loop. More in photo-story…

Whole route no special features. Kriška stena crowded as always, same descent north side Razor. No snow anywhere, no hikers. Pogačnik hut all young staff, served right away. Fresh brewed excellent coffee=3€, Union can=6€.
We leave the car at the parking lot just below the third bend. We arrived very early, all three at once :)1
Right by the road is the sign for Krnica, where we are also heading.2
We missed the bridge over Suho Pišnico, but even over the stones it went quite elegantly :)3
Planina v Klinu and Kriška stena in the background4
A little further ahead we arrive at Dom v Krnici. We are early and everything is still asleep5
Straight past the hut we encounter the markers of our direction, although we won't go to any of these peaks6
Double surprise :) First we think of trash, but in the bag there is a good kilogram of forgotten and untouched food7
We progress nicely. The early hour pays off for us and it is still cool8
The slopes above us are already being warmed diligently by the morning sun9
In these parts it is peaceful. Chamois families are everywhere10
Here too the markers are renewed, which we observe in many places in our mountains11
This one is good. It is so cold that we have to dress even warmer12
Well-visible crossing over Kriška stena13
So it's clear who has the say here :) I don't remember anything similar anywhere14
We equip ourselves appropriately to the friability, put on gloves and go into action ...15
Everything is nicely marked and sufficiently frequent so that even fog shouldn't be a problem16
There are no particularly exposed spots, yet there are steel cables in many places17
Carved steps are a puzzle for me. There are too many just for hikers, more likely from the Italian era18
View back at the narrow ledges for which this crossing is known. No special difficulties, caution is advisable19
Looks nasty, but those accustomed to such crossings will have no problems20
Steel cables follow in series. This one is the last …21
Some scree follows and we are already out of the wall. We will see its size a little later22
Our resting point is still far away, but the weather is splendid, views excellent23
Bovški Gamsovec, in the background of course Triglav24
Upper Kriško Lake25
View of Kriško steno, up which we recently came26
We continue towards the hut. Pihavec in the background27
We are already closer :)28
Middle Kriško lake right below the hut29
It's time for a break :)30
View into Trenta31
After the stop at Pogačnikov dom we return a few hundred meters back and turn towards Razor32
We go up there...33
This is a rather warm *primorski* approach and the sun also decides to show its power34
Some initial cables help over the rocky step35
Razor is quite visited and it is wise to provide for safety even where good walkers do not really need it36
The weather has started to cooperate with us and provided occasional shade :)37
There are also plenty of well-visible markers here. SPP1 also passes through here38
Slowly but steadily we approach the summit...39
New set of cables, same as below40
We are at the path junction, we choose Razor of course41
Its majesty is already closer. It is one of the few in the 2600+ club42
Obligatory cave shot :)43
Soon more rocky terrain begins44
Summit ruins45
Newer path variant. The previous one was washed away by a landslide.46
Ascent on a mini via ferrata. In one section it is even slightly overhanging.47
A helmet is highly recommended, as there is lots of loose scree at the exit.48
Ahead of us three Croats making strange noises on the ferrata overhang :)49
Who is whose decoration :)50
A long path still lies ahead, so we do not stop.51
The descent is of course the same, as there is no other path.52
The iron section follows …53
And we already bid farewell to the collapsed slope. The light rock color are recent landslides.54
We descend to the saddle where the turn-off to Vršič is.55
The continuation runs along the northern side of Razor.56
Little saw, bird, little fish .... what is this supposed to be?57
After the initial scree fields comes a more demanding section.58
The path is routed through natural passages.59
In many places wire ropes and pegs provide assistance.60
There are many descents, ascents and descents again.61
Everything is also well marked here, all praise to the path markers.62
Look back at part of the traversed section.63
Yet another of the passages ...64
We must descend to the lower zigzag path.65
At the fork we choose the lower, direct path. The upper one would take us too much time.66
We head to Mlinarica. Razor in the background.67
The lower path is not high on my popularity list. It is hot and stuffy, but there is no better alternative.68
Goličica. It has been a long time since I last visited it.69
After a long traverse of the slopes we finally join the upper path.70
From here it is not far to Vršič anymore. But it is just an intermediate stop :)71
We are already around the bend. Next comes crossing the screes under Prisank.72
He, he, sheep almost prevent us from continuing :)73
Mojstrovke and Nad Šitom glava on the opposite side of the pass.74
Poštarca. It is late, so we do not stop.75
View from Poštarca.76
We will descend along the old Vršič road.77
This is a beautiful path that can be shortened in many places.78
It comes out at Tonkina koča.79
The hut is no longer a stopover for hikers but is rented out. Currently it is full of Hungarians.80
The originally planned path is overgrown, so we continue along the road for a while, then descend the marked shortcut.81
Well-visited Mihov dom. Not long ago it stood empty for years.82
The third bend well known to hikers :)83
We conclude just a bit lower at the *Russian Cross*.84
We tackled quite a substantial, not the easiest tour. It came to 25 km and 2300 m of ascent.85

Super, Emil!
In morning could drive to third picture. Once try from Kriška stena right away across Šplevta and steep scree to first rocks (easy III), which lead to north summit almost eye level with main. Time gain 1.5 hours.

Praiseworthy description of a long and quite demanding tour... you probably took quite some hours despite the fast pace, as on these pages we find a description that the ascent to Razor alone takes 7h10 (which seems overestimated to me)... maybe someone is interested in how much time you actually walked? *** A few years ago with my son we completed a similar loop, but included ascent through the 2nd window to Prisojnik, which took 8 h... almost Red Bull pace. For such long loops it's relatively hard to find a description or rating on hribi.net...

lijaneja, is your mentioned ascent published somewhere or does a detailed description for tour preparation exist? Thanks!

On the previous page I described a bit. It's important not to push too far left above the scree; if you're attentive, you'll come across some of my ribbons from explorations many years ago.

Thanks everyone, some replies follow:

@Lijaneja ... we don't enjoy such pathless terrain, nor do we know if we can include them in such a long tour. A stop at Pogačnik means more to us nasmeh.

@Lisac ... maybe those old PZS forum posts will be useful to you regarding that pathless terrain ( https://www.pzs.si/forum-zgodovina.php?pid=2470 )

@Opazovalec ... timings are always ungrateful data unlike more exact kilometers and elevations. Everyone is their own kind of walker. Racers will wrinkle their noses, slower ones will grumble nasmeh.

But anyway …. for the whole loop together with a half-hour stop at Pogačnik we took good 13 hours. We don't consider ourselves fast walkers, but stops are our plus. We need very few of them, but we can walk all day. Usually youngsters overtake us left and right, but in the end we are ahead of everyone. In car jargon they are more new-age electrics with good acceleration, but many stops, while we are classic diesels. Well … Mateja is a somewhat younger model and already has a built-in turbo velik nasmeh.

@bagi great post and great photos! Really commendable, how much effort you put into documenting the trail – taking so many good photos from the field is no small feat nasmeh Such a post will come in handy for many more who are thinking about a similar tour.

My partner and I have also been seeking more local destinations lately due to the unstable weather, so I read such reports even more gladly – you get an idea, while also seeing what awaits you on the trail.

bagi thanks for the information.

Julijec question; the direct route from Šplevta I assume goes, looking at your pic no.2 from 5.7.24, along the right part of the scree to the rock steps and then to the top. What's the rating, around II or more? Thanks

@jernejletica … it's true, thanks velik nasmeh. Preparing a quality trip report is a huge amount of work and only those who have done it know. It takes at least as much time as the hike itself. First you need to take good photos, then select the right ones from the bunch for a good story, edit them, write comments, compile the report and more could be found. Especially demanding are those paths that haven't been published yet. Without some inner satisfaction I wouldn't do it.

But I'm glad that some reader gets inspiration for something new from these posts. The world is beautiful if you see it that way nasmeh.

In today's age of phones where everything is in one, it's really no problem to make a post in a very short time. nasmeh
But it's true that most don't even take time for that. Some just post riddles and comment. They expect good descriptions, of course with text under photos, even though they contribute nothing themselves.
Regarding this tour, it's really long. When I did it in the past, it was closer to me in the opposite direction, via Prisank and its windows.

Bagi, the last sentence about turbo drive is really a good comparison with cars. But I'm curious if it also has lower consumption. nasmeh

@dprapr ... When the phone can do all that is needed for a quality contribution, I'll be very happy. If you have such a model, just tell me the brand nasmeh. As for the turbo diesel, yes, besides speed it's also very economical. For me, a Gorenjec, ideal combination velik nasmeh.
