Robanov Kot - Žvižgovec (Korošica/Molička Peč)

Print
geppo23. 05. 2010 14:57:33
A few days ago I gave a response (advised against) the route from Robanov Kot via Žvižgovec to Korošica.

The route interested me anyway and today I went on this route. My son went with me and the only obstacle was the time limit for wandering (from the son).

At 05:50 we parked the car at the organized parking lot 500m before Roban farm. From the equipment we only had ice axes with us.

Soon after Roban we were already undressing (warm wind).

At 06:30 we were at the Planšarija hut. We refreshed ourselves a bit with water and continued. The gullies were still full of snow and we realized that without using ice axes it wouldn't go. The top of Ojstrica was wrapped in mists and the higher we climbed the more it blew and the colder it got.

We crossed the first snowfield carefully without using ice axes. For the next one we moved a bit into the rock, but there was no solution (ice axes).

We kicked our boots into the hard snow and made steps for ourselves.

When we reached the third, the path was lost. Logically the exit to the right seemed correct to me. Through extremely crumbly terrain we climbed and saw the path to the right. Again a crossing of a very steep snowfield awaited us. Further on, what we managed to see was not promising.

We unanimously decided on a return (in crampons OK) but this way for every step to kick the boot into hard snow. We had only ourselves to blame.

At 10:20 we were back at the Planšarija.

We were not in a bad mood because of the return (about 15 min more to get out of the rocks). The forenoon was nice anyway and we had plenty of time for mutual conversation.

Warning!!

- the path is still full of scree and dangerous for slipping

- snowfields require equipment and experience and they will still be for some time!!

- a few meters of cable are buried with soil

for ascent no problems / descent can cause them to many (poor holds and steps) - this applies to that part of the path that is buried with soil

Regards

We hiked this path with my husband last July when there was no snow; we returned via Podvežak, because already last year part of the path was damaged - buried, actually I'd say the ground with rocks slid down.
... and if not tall enough, there are also troubles with pegs at some spots, because they are hard to reach.

Heh, girl, if you already decide for such a path in such conditions that you surely could expect, you'd take full gear along. Like taking harness and rope to crag but no karabiners :/

Hey, goal wasn't to climb over the wall!!
What we climbed could be done that way too (no special danger).
And nothing wrong with that, because we turned back, some goal was achieved anyway...

Heh, then you'd leave crampons below too and could turn even earlier and be sooner at beer in the valley :P
Well, it's really your thing what goal you have and what gear, but anyway... here you assess that there was no special danger, above you yourself write about kicking boots into hard snow... it would be safer with crampons and probably more pleasant too...

Listen mariborcan, don't teach and share advice with each other.
Important is that someone who follows this page understands what awaits him if he goes on this path. If the "kid" makes mistakes, he makes them for himself, so don't worry about it....

After two years I decide to repeat this path. Son was not home so I go alone.
Since nobody writes about this path I didn't know what to expect?
A little before 7 I park and past Govec, Roban up the valley. At the mountain hut short break and over torrent gullies toward wall.
Waterfall small and not roaring like then. As I ascend I start meeting snow on path. First gully flooded and I tackle it. Snow sinks a bit and I progress nicely. Then alternates dry rock and snow/ice clad path that gradually gets lost under snow. Crampons scrape on ice and rocks. Some rock steps I climb on dry rock in crampons (cuz otherwise keep taking on/off). Problematic wind slabs where axe doesn't hold (just sinks in snow). There I search (if possible) to bypass such spots. At saddle Žvižgavec at 11:30. Path levels and I head toward Molička, but among bushes still heaps windblown snow and sinks deep. Turn, short rest and back down. Snow more springlike and afraid at some spots I'll slide with whole ice plate.
At 13 under waterfall. Packing helmet notice missing jacket clipped to backpack. What can you do? Return and after hour ascent spot it in last gully.
At Roban's barn dunk whole head in cold water, let it rinse neck and ears too. Salt washes out...
At Govec cold beer and liter water...

Zlatko, you decided right, not like some who just solve riddles from Roban's corner.
Nice that second pic - always admire old homesteads and neatly stacked wood.

Congratulations Geppo! Nice solitary hike. A feature of this route is that even in the main mountaineering season it's not very crowded.mežikanje

Žvižgovec 1865m asl
Sadly, for ten years I haven't managed to step on its summit. Many times I wandered right by its walls, snacked next to it, but haven't stepped on its summit yet.
Today I was sure it would succeed for me but again nothing.
With "andi2" we had a nice plan that fizzled out right by Žvižgovec. We started from Robanov Kot at +5C and full moon showing above the Krofička ridge. Planšarija in the kot is closed!
Entered the world of Jeruzal, past the still flowing waterfall.
Lots of new cables!!!
Under the wall of Žvižgovec left to two windows. Descended the loose gully and climbed the chute into a completely different world. From here the "paths" continue under the wall of V. Zelenica, over Omatniki, under the heads of Poljske device all the way to the path on Križevnik ridge - and further!
Looked for some new passage, then descended back to the broken gully, climbed back to the windows. Continued to the saddle Between Žvižgovec (1865m asl and point 1929m asl) where an SMS arrived to the buddy and the time window closed (per J. Kacin - corona 2020). We had only 3 hours left to get home.
Žvižgovec was "conquered on sight"! But we hurried to refresh at Igla and missed cck by 10min. It will wait another 10 yearsvelik nasmeh
Conditions ideal, lots of new pegs, no snow...

It was nice! Really a pity for Žvižgovec...Thanks for not wetting me more, what I was doing while taking photos (16), how I successfully overlooked and rushed right past the "Aljažev stolp" (18) and how with my pulse I barely kept up with yours velik nasmeh young guys sometimes are not seriouszavijanje z očmi When hiking with you I've gotten used to not having any smart photos taken. Morning at 6 was pleasantly fresh +14 C. Parked in the forest before Govc inn. Which paid off on the return. Car nicely in shade and not on all-day baking at the parking by Roban.
Although the morning ascent is mostly in shade, the steepness tires me quite a bit. There's still quite some snow, but it doesn't pose noteworthy difficulties on the route. Visited the windows for photos and continued to the saddle, which is already in sun.
We tackle Žvižgovec over rocks, last part before summit wading scree. Descent more clothing-friendly. Visited the old Kocbek bivouac on Molička planina. Return to Robanov Kot was several degrees warmer. Back to the lower waterfall in Jeruzal quite dehydrated and tired. These last 4 km to start were already a bit tough. In the cold waters of Savinja at Igla we "lick" today's wounds.

Nice tour Zlatko!
For some time I've intended to climb this summit, always passed by. Now that I've seen on the photo how nice the summit itself is, I really hope it succeeds soon. Thanks for the photos! Regards

I said I won't post too much anymore, but here and there it's ok.
Žvižgovec dodged me well, today I finally outsmarted it.
In the morning I look towards the Alps and quickly, a bit forcibly, head to Robanov Kot. Given the weather these days, at 8:15 (late) I rush towards Planšarija. Rushing and hoping for the weather. What do I need this for, I wonder, as I rush along the marked path. Below Žvižgovec I catch up with three foreigners and chat a bit. I ask where they're heading, they say they have no idea where and just follow the marks. For the weather, they said the forecast is worse for late afternoon. Super!
When I emerge on the plateau, I quickly head left towards Žvižgovec, watching for passages and the best (easiest) approach line from this side. Succeeded on the first try, without getting tangled. Shorter, easier jumps and exposed traverse along the slab, where the scree at the edge helped nicely. From the edge to the summit only a dense belt of dwarf pines separated me, which resisted with all their might so I wouldn't reach the top so easily. Great summit, solitary! When I looked towards Planjava, it drove me to descent; it seems rain is coming soon. I quench my thirst and descend the south side, where the terrain is easier; today no time for exploring.
The gravelly marked path is in good condition, caution is not superfluous since it's well strewn! Clouds started closing the sky, I calmly head to the valley. The shower caught me at the horses.
Safe!
