I didn't dare open this topic because I anticipated criticism. Some still consider us mountain runners "crazy". But the thing, with knowledge of mountains and factors acting in that environment, can be completely safe.

I suggest the subforum name simply "MOUNTAIN RUNNING".

Yes, a variant (although I haven't walked it) is probably also like this: Zapornica Belca - Jepca saddle (below Kepa) - then left along border ridge (border trail) towards Črni Vrh and Kresišče - descend to pasture between Kresišče and Maloško poldne - continue to M. poldne - Ostri vrh - Trupejevo poldne - back along south side of Murnovec and Grajščica past west slope of Tišlerica (or even further south to Mojstrovica and Visoki vrh, back over Bašinov breg on east side of Mojstrovica to forest road - down which past forestry hut back to start.
A local told me it's possible to traverse entire border ridge between Kepa and Kresišče or even Trupejevo poldne.
You can check something on the topo map www.geopedia.si
LP Heinz!
the path is a bit visible - in front1
at Kresišče2
towards Trupejevo poldnevo3

We got the mountain biking subforum. Still missing the MOUNTAIN RUNNING subforum.

Anyway, today I did a longer recovery training. Left the car in Krpin near Begunje. Then ran through "Kašarija" to Most. In Most I climbed to the start of the Peči ridge - the extreme western part of the Kamnik Alps. It was slippery but it was quite runnable. From Most to Smokuški vrh took me one hour, then descent past the sledding hut and sv. Peter back to Krpin.

Very nice mountain run for days when you can't go anywhere else.

Actually it's this variant I already described: http://bojanambrozic.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!ACD975034630F7FE!8092.entry

Due to avalanche danger today I didn't have much choice. For a moment I thought of Zelenica, but remembered the memorial on the path that 3 decades ago 6 people lost their lives here in an avalanche. So I had to think of something else.

So I repeated the Peči ridge. Start in Most, then along the ridge to Smokuški vrh. At first there wasn't much running, as just trampling took a lot of energy. It was trampled further from Lovrenc. Here I attacked as much as I could. By then I had lost too much time to hope for a good result. Climbing also takes me more time than usual, as I have to carefully dig out rocks to find good footholds and handholds. Snow increases noticeably with altitude. On the narrow track you can't run fast either. Still enjoying the great weather.

On the way back I didn't go by road as usual but along the tracks through the forest right to Kašarija. This way I didn't ruin my knees on hard asphalt with unforgiving trail running shoes. I extended the tour to Završnica.

Lately I've done some longer trainings because I realized I lack endurance for safe running longer than 30 km at full speed. Hope with these distances I've fixed that problem now and from now on I can focus more or less only on speed.

Bojan_A and others...
Forum folks, do you ever run at night and what gear do you use?
like
Bojan_A2. 04. 2010 13:52:18
Mountain running at night? Personally I avoid it because then I don't see well where to step. I think I've never gone running in the mountains at night. But darkness has caught me several times. So in such cases when I expect not to be back before dark, I carry a lightweight headlamp. I think the headlamp is the main thing for night.

I often run (especially in winter with short days) normal road trainings at night. Then I don't need headlamp, but equip with blinker or reflective bands. Still, night running is more dangerous than daytime.

Maybe a list of reports from mountain runs fits here (if not, delete it) so you can see which ones are worth attending and which not. Some organizers really put their soul into their races and try hard, while others less.

Yes if someone knows about some mountain run it's best to inform or write here e.g.mežikanje
On Monday 5.04.2010 there will be a mountain run in Vipava, Primorska, organized by TD Burja Vipava, run isn't too bad 4km 550nmv nice course even if bad weather. See you start at 10.30. For you Bojan about 25min come on.

Sadly I won't be there, because it's far and I don't have a whole day. But we'll probably see each other at Golica, Jošt, Roblek and under Kriška gora.

Maybe also report the sad news that there won't be Run to Grintovec this year. Because Papež family is organizing World Championship in mountain running this year. Understandably impossible to pull off two such demanding events.

I have also tried; I had some Chinese gear that isn't worth much. Now I'd buy something better and more useful. Which headlamp do you use and how satisfied are you?
like
Bojan_A4. 04. 2010 22:44:51
No, don't buy something cheap. I also had some Chinese light that broke before first use. Currently using Petzl Tikka + and very satisfied. I've had it for 3 years and use it for astronomical observations, and it's part of mandatory hiking gear in backpack. In new Igluj catalog I saw the new version Tikka 2 has come out.

Anyway read this: http://www.rutka.net/gradivo/clanki/test_svetilk

You can't believe how (blindingly) powerful they are, real spotlights.

I agree with you. Yeah, you have a really good light; I checked it and others praise it too.
I looked at this one, which they also praise.

Yeah, very powerful they are. Super test BTW.

I think it's best to buy something in that sense. Sure these lamps are quite expensive but they'll probably survive 5 "Chinese" lamps. And much more powerful too.

hi klemn

I'm interested if ordinary mortals can register on 5 September for the run or is it only for teams because on 25 July I'm not in SLO.
