Škrbina (Slaparjeva gora)

On Saturday, past Krems to panoramic Slaparjeva gora, where we enjoyed solitude and partial views too. These areas really are not crowded so we met mouflons again, well I only saw their rear ends We returned past Dom na Čemšeniku, where despite the hut being closed there were some visitors - it was nice in the sun

Lunatic, in my last post pic 3 shows hunting stand - if you continue straight past it, i.e. not turning to ridge and Slaparjeva gora, and just follow track without branching, it brings you to sign for panoramic path which soon splits, upper is panoramic, lower brings to Čemšenik (marked). Actually the path from stand goes up a bit more, then descends quite a lot to the sign. Ridge from Slaparjeva gora to Javorjev vrh is super too, but last pitch surprised me when the world stands vertical Plan to repeat soon

At the end you can go around along the contour line to reach the northern ridge and that part of the ascent is easier.

Lynx, thanks for the info. Obviously the ridge has quite a few visitors, but reporters are lacking

The ridge is nicely snowy, icy, drifted and narrow... we worked hard with the dog, still better than steep dry grass with frozen ground

I mean the NE ridge before Javorjev vrh...

My contribution to this topic: that last part, whether along the NE ridge or steep grass, with frozen ground can quickly show its teeth. Tested years ago on descent Otherwise, we two circled the whole loop above Čemšnik a day before the last snowfall. Highly recommend to lovers of solitude, hunters' paths and easy off-trail. But rambling here is best early spring or late autumn. This time I imagined a trip from Kokra along the path past Nabernik, then from Krems / Zajec directly up the S ridge to Škrbina (my motto: why drag along clearings around if the ridge lacks nothing ), traverse Slaparjeva gora via SE to the saddle between Cjanovca and SE, back along the ridge to the branch for Babe, then down their ridge into Čemšeniški graben. About 11.5km and some elevation. Interesting that maps have quite some confusion about naming individual peaks in the ridge. On PZS map e.g. Hude stene is only the NW slope of Škrbina, on OpenTopo it's one of the peaks in the ridge. Location of Slaparjeva gora summit unclear too, on PZS map it's 1208m (far from highest in ridge), on SloTopo Hude stene at same spot, Slaparjeva gora at 1237m? Then further unnamed 1271m as highest part before ascent to Javorjev vrh. Would be interesting to ask Slaparjevs what they think ;-) Anyway, nice trip with nice views. Next time Akle, Starec and company to fill some gaps in knowing nature and society above Kokra...

True, some confusion about naming. As for OSM maps, I'm "guilty", as I edited that part and added the peak names. I referred to data from Geopedie, that's why I marked peaks like that... That PZS map is also a "gem", lots of info there isn't correct, elevations don't match at all...

After 3 years back on the ridge from Škrbina to Javorjev vrh. To Škrbina we climbed the already known path past Krems, the continuation along the ridge is hard to miss The path is varied, soft, pleasant and shady, as it mostly goes through forest. Usually a nice breeze on the ridge, so no real heat felt. It's up and down, with two steep ascents in between, one shorter and one longer just before Javorjev vrh. Nice valley views open along the way. Chamois hang around the ridge, which Nessy and I disturbed during morning graze. No need to emphasize it's a very solitary path where you actually meet chamois before people From Škrbina to Javorjev vrh exactly one and a half hours, ridge section 3.5 km. Returned past Čemšnik, whole tour with breaks under 4 hours.

Ločanka, just go, you'll enjoy the solitude and silence, unless some chamois jumps on your path Read my comment under this trip too, so you'll turn at the right junction. Then definitely stop at Dom Čemšenik (open Fri to Sun), caretaker Irena cooks excellently

Today with Nessy past Krems and along the tracks to Slaparjeva gora. Part of road to Krems now asphalted. Mostly path dry, some places very muddy and slippery (depends where you go), last part before ridge snowy, track poorly trodden or still sinking. On ridge caution needed due to snow, ice and grass mix. Below summit scare off wild boar - after bear encounter nothing surprises me No pics cuz phone left home

Palčica, nice tour you did in remote areas. Didn't know they have donkeys at Krems now too. Haven't been here for so long, gotta check soon
