Skutnik-Monte Guarda 1721m

Yeah, one of the narrowest roads around here (actually, it should be "around here"). Even the road to Tolminske Ravne is wider. Otherwise, be careful and it works.
From Krnica, you can see it nicely. The Idrija fault line, which continues towards Notranjska.

Yes, this Resian road is narrow, very narrow. The road barriers are so full of sheet metal of all colors that Benetton could shoot their colorful ads here velik nasmeh

@BT88 ... almost no snow on sunny slopes, on shady ones it's like concrete. Picture 12 shows approximately how much there is at around 1800 m. Krnica peak, Kanin, Planja and others around there have shady sides too and all are much higher than Skutnik. There it can be tricky, definitely not a summer walk.

@Miri and @Van Sims already last year teased me with the ridge path over the Resian hills so much that I had to complete the whole path as soon as possible nasmeh. So ... from Skutnik to Krnica saddle the path is all easy, no strenuous ups and downs, very comfortable and snow-free. We started in Učja village, climbed to the ridge and in the end from Krnica saddle returned to the starting point on the famous Resian road. Famous because four hikers can barely walk side by side velik nasmeh.

Yesterday for the first time on Skutnik (Italian Monte Guarda). The tour was reconnaissance because next year on May 20 at PD Škofja Loka I'll lead a tour for the first time as a hiking guide A PZS. With the assistant and two more hikers, we went to find the return path from the mountain. Up we will go from Učja on path 733, which is also described here. We always try on our tours to find another path for the return from the mountain. We checked the maps and found our return path. In Žaga village opposite the inn, we parked the car and behind the inn headed to the path. At the top above the inn, you need to turn onto the marked path for viewing the waterfalls of Globoški stream from the gorge. The path actually follows an abandoned mule track. On the pasture, turn left into the gorge - it is marked. But we continued right on that pasture, where this abandoned mule track continues through the pasture into the forest. To the upper waterfalls of Globoški stream, the path goes roughly level and not on a steep slope. Suddenly we find ourselves before wonderful waterfalls. At the penultimate waterfall, we even cross the stream. It continues a bit steeply, here a pair of steel cables help us and over the gully even a chicken ladder. To the next pasture, where we see a hut and even grazing goats, the path goes through the forest. From there, the mule track goes in switchbacks only upwards. In places it is already ruined, there is a lot of leaves and in places it thickly covers the mule track. The mule track is followable all the way. After about three hours of not too fast walking, we come out of the forest and already spot our peak. In between, we also see a hunting hut and full of ruins of war objects from WWI. The mule track brings us almost to the foot of the mountain. From there straight up the steep ridge to the top. We walked about four hours. Before the top, a large defensive trench from the Great War awaits us. At the top, a cross and logbook. The view of the rocky peaks to the left is magnificent. Back we descended the same path. About three-quarters of the way, in the forest we turned right and descended into the stream gorge and saw the last waterfall from below, which is not visible from above. Back we walked three hours.

Gornja Žaga has nothing to do with the mentioned path, the path goes through Hlevišča (photos wrongly captioned), the last one, where you turn up to the hunting hut on Mužnik, is Bočeva (goats); it also has a very interesting cableway over the Učja gorge. The ruins are remains of settlements and abandoned alps. From the former alp Osredek there is also a path to the remains of alp Globoka, from there to alp Baban, where the marked path runs over alp Ognjenk through Žlebišče to Žaga.

Garmont, where do you see the problem? Mr. Velkavrh nicely and clearly wrote that he is a hiking guide A PZS. Nowhere in the post does he claim to be a mountain guide. Mr. Branko, I wish you many more beautiful mountain experiences and wonderful descriptions of your hikes. Best regards and good luck!

lino, he already corrected it, nothing else.

I'm more interested in the names — doesn't our Skutnik have Monte Guarda as a neighbor? Newer border names?

Yes, @lino. After you correct what was written before, all comments on this topic become pointless. mrk pogled

Great, now I have the route with a starting point in Italy described even more detailed. Last year we did reconnaissance from Slovenia from Žaga. This year we were supposed to have this tour in the club - circular, of course - from Učja up, but due to bad weather it was canceled and we're postponing it to 2018. The one from Učja has a marked path, the Slovenian one is not marked. It's also a bit overgrown. On return there's an orientation loop above the falls. We already accidentally turned right and descended into the Globoški stream gorge and saw the mighty lower fall too. The entrance to this gorge is marked up top. If we want to go over that chicken ladder past the upper fall, we must turn right at that house on that meadow. We went up the upper path. You need to be careful in the forest too, right now when it's full of leaves and the old mulatjera is less visible in places. We already turned to the hut - to the goats. Before the end of the little forest, the mulatjera turns right. When out of the forest past abandoned pastures and past the hunting hut above the path, there are no more path problems. Surely before the tour I'll do reconnaissance from the Italian side too.

Does anyone know how far the snow reaches on Skutnik right now, or on the ridge continuing west from it? I'd appreciate any info. Safe travelsnasmeh

Maybe these two cameras (one pic is two days old, but no snow since then) help a bit:

They tell me enough, since tomorrow at the lower end of the valley I have something nice beyond the hillmežikanje

Today on reconnaissance to Skutnik from the Italian side from the village Učja. Below it says we need 3 hours 45 mins for the path. The path is nicely marked -733. In under an hour we are at some abandoned pasture the forest already strongly overgrowing. Buildings mostly ruins. Somehow in two hours at the summit. The path goes pleasantly first through hayfields. Above the path full of auricles. Then more than half-hour ridge. Short snow patches in between, no problems. The summit greets us with a wonderful view. It was a beautiful sunny day.

When you emerge from the forest you spot the Casera Caal pasture.5
There are also some more challenging sections of the path in between.6
Otherwise the path is exceptionally well laid out and scenic.7
But when you reach the ridge you see this on the other side.8
