I'm interested in where sledding is possible on longer tracks for small and big kids somewhere more in the hills here in Slovenia? What are your experiences? Night sledding? Offers and descriptions on the web? Of course we'll have to wait a bit more for snow Thanks and best

Snow-covered old gravel road from the former border crossing at Ljubelj to Ljubelj pass (sledding of course in the opposite direction). By the parking lot below, sled rental is sometimes possible in winter (usually on weekends). Ascent under an hour, hut at the top usually open on weekends, sometimes during the week. Access and route description on hribi.net. Another option: Snow-covered road from the hut under Storžič towards the valley.

Velika Planina has night sledding on weekends (Fri, Sat, sometimes Sun). Just this year still a bit short on snow. Night sledding lasts about 3 hours and fast ones manage about 9 runs, average about 6. But it's extremely cold

sledding possible, of course when there's snow in Trebiže under Peča or Tromeja. At the hut take sleds and go along the road to where it's plowed. Road to Vogar, where there's a well-organized sledding area and also transport with off-road vans. Road Učeja-Kobariški Stol, triglavski knows more for sledding area in Trenta. Road to Vršič, if they organize?.

Now that we have such nicely arranged forums for all mountains, alpinism, ski touring, mountain running, cycling and other discussions, we're missing a SLEDING forum. I think there would be quite some interest, so I hope the site admins add it to the forum list. Thanks. iztok

Today night descent from Stari Ljubelj. Super base up top, last three bends completely icy, so we had problems despite braking . We met quite a few people, mostly northern neighbors. Does anyone know any other run with some snow?

At Ljubelj you can still get to two serpentines before the tunnel, if you don't mind the sled then to the bottom; road icy

Hello! Whoever wants a real sledding experience should visit Sorica. There is a natural sled run made for the most demanding sledders. Actually for competition sleds. But recreational ones can also go down it. They adjust the length of the run or height difference to their skill. LP Swiss

But that run on Soriska Planina is currently icy! This weekend there was a World Cup race on it for natural track sledding. Otherwise it's great yeah!

If you have some time in between when the weather stabilizes and if you like adrenaline sledding, there's a very adrenaline-packed and fast run at Zelenica ski resort. Sounds weird, but it's crazy, adrenaline-filled and fun..

Valvazor - lots of jumps that can't be avoided in places, bottom is already pretty icy Planinca - real ice slide through the gorge Martuljek - super groomed, empty even on weekends, just right for multiple and multi-hour enjoyment How's the road to Stari Ljubelj??

For not too fast tobogganers, the road from Rifugio Zacchi to Upper Mangart Lake is also interesting. About 3/4 of the road (except the upper and lower parts) can be tobogganed - now it's completely safe and you're in the valley in 25 minutes. And one more thing: it looks like the hut is open even on weekdays.

What about toboggan runs or tracks where you can toboggan without payment? Lately there's so little snow here that you have to go elsewhere with sleds. I would like some run (or road) allowing free tobogganing, safe (no or little car traffic) and where you walk to the top yourself (e.g. up to half hour walk, 2-3 km). On runs with organized transport tobogganing can be quite expensive, so I'll be happy for any suggestion.

Under Storžič tobogganing is free on closed road, and the hut is also open. You need only your own light and sled.

Iztok 76 has listed some already. Martuljek is organized toboggan run but you can go on foot without payment. Would add Krnica. Half hour walk, best start from 3rd (think 3) hairpin of Vršiška road. Hut open, run super.

Ljubelj is currently wavy, yesterday it was real torture and not tobogganing. We descended also from Vrtača hut to Zelenica, even on powder with crust it was rideable , enjoyed much more here than on road.

Planinca is still good to go right from the hut or even higher. Dom pod Storžičem is also excellent. But I would warn all night tobogganers who have the headlamp on during the ascent: don't look at the oncoming one, because you blind him completely . It happened to me twice this year; the first time it went centimeters past the legs of those walking behind the leader, of course not exactly at the edge who was shining nicely in my eyes.

I see that you master the toboggan scene. I would ask if you know anything, since it hasn't been mentioned yet; 1. Mangrt saddle? 2. Mrzlica towards Predmeja (I saw a couple of individuals on sleds, but I don't know if it is a popular toboggan destination or not)? 3. Podljubelj (from Prevala saddle), apparently it used to be a popular thing? On Prešeren Day I walked past there and it seemed like a super piste.

A few years ago I was (on an organized) night tobogganing from Mangart saddle. We tobogganed from the first tunnel to somewhere at the planina. Nice thing! This year tobogganing is also possible at Mišouh sledding hill in Selška valley (Praprotno).
