St. Peter above Begunje

I had a hard time convincing myself that this peak belongs to the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. zmeden Well, let it be if it's written that way. nasmehmežikanje
The morning view through the window already promised a nice day and it confirmed itself during the drive to Begunje. We were grinning at the views of snow-covered mountains bathing in the sun. We parked on a large parking lot slightly outside the settlement and headed towards the top on the path. The path was quite icy, so small crampons aren't superfluous, hiking poles neither. From the top beautiful views over Gorenjska, especially with such visibility as today. At Milka's we hid from the north wind and drank tea in the company of cats. With heavy hearts we headed to the valley, good that it was nice there too.nasmeh

The geological structure indeed confirms this fact. But for many it's unbelievable and far-fetched. Especially because the name KAMNISKO-SAVINJSKE ALPE is a completely artificial coinage of recent date.

The KSA spur reaches all the way to Most pri Žirovnici, meaning it encompasses the entire slope with Smokuški vrh peak and the church of Sveti Lovrenc above Zabreznica

Hello!

About a month ago I first intended to visit Smokuški vrh past Sv. Peter. Past Sankaska koča I went up the steep hill, came to the spot where there's a bench on the left (nice view towards villages, Bled, Jesenice) and on the right a hunting hut with bench, then I didn't know where to go. I followed markers and after a few meters turned right down the muddy road where cars obviously drove, came to the spot with the observation post, then turned back as I didn't know where I was nor where to go. Where did I go wrong? Can someone describe the path in more detail, at least that part you have to take when you reach the bench and hunting hut on the right?
I did read the description on this site but that "we go along the path running by the wide edge" or similar confused me.

Thank you very much

Viharnica: to the hunting hut you went correctly, there you had two options. First, as you described, turn right onto the muddy road, but soon (after 100m, I think near the hunting observatory) then left up the slope (across a small clearing - now in the snow it is trodden and you should find the path). There you will soon reach a cart track and follow it steeply uphill for about 15 minutes. Then at the top the cart track levels out a bit, and the main path goes towards Poljska planina (one marker is visible, no signs), but you must turn sharply left there - the problem is there are no markers, but there is a path. The path is then very moderate to the top.

The second option is to go left ahead from the hunting hut, and soon the path branches off to the right and you reach the same path as in the first variant.

Janez Radovljica, thanks for the reply.
Indeed I went straight opposite the observatory up the hill, after a few meters there was like some ruined cart track, but I went wrong again obviously, to the right, where there were quite a few fallen trees and the path ruined.
Now it is clearer to me where I must go or where I missed. Best thanks for the help, no problem, next time I will find it nasmeh

Sankaška hut, St. Peter's church... Just a little something for the soul, as these days around the Day of the Dead are so gloomy. The path from Krpina is fun, short and soon you are at the hut on colorful carpets of fallen leaves. nasmehhttp://jelenkamenmajdag.blogspot.si/2016/10/za-duso.html

Today on a short family-friends hike to this hill.
Start at the fire station in Begunje, past the town hillside and then across the meadow to the forest, where the path becomes a narrow trail for single file walking. Almost to the top in shade, the path crosses other paths several times, which mostly don't lead in the desired direction. At least that's what the locals say. Markings are half bad, path quite eroded. In short: at the "crossings", always choose straight up. Not left or right. And the path needs gradual renewal, because it's quite worn!

To the church pure walking with small kids 45 min, to the hut at the sledding area another almost 10 min more.

At the church nice view towards Begunje to the south and Stol and Begunjščica to the north. Roblek and Prešeren Hut on Stol nicely visible. Lots of gliders in the airnasmeh

At the hut, where they serve outside, view opens to the Julian Alps and Bled. Great!

The tour is not demanding. Suitable also for toddlers; just choose dry weather and proper footwear for them, so they don't go back more on their butts than on their feet. mežikanje

Circular ramble, it would be even nicer today... St. Peter, Sankaška, Begunje.. Ascent past the climbing wall, you're quickly at the little church. At Sankaška it was closed. Returned along the upper forest road. Many climb it too. A bit further from Krpina left, the path starts. There's snow and the road below is icy, trails icy under snow too. Nice ramble.nasmeh
