It was a fresh morning in Vrata, just pleasantly right over Sovatna, at Dovška vratca a bit of cold wind, so we continued to Stenar. Some snow patches present no problem, just be a bit careful at the rock step, then dry to the summit. We descended below Križ and climbed to the summit, then to bivouac IV. Need to be careful, as there is some snow on the path, otherwise already trodden, but gaiters still useful since snow mostly dry. From bivouac frozen in places, requires careful steps, even where path in shade and no snow.

What are the conditions for the path to Stenar over Sovatna? I plan to go only after 24.11. Until then it's far and conditions can change a lot. I don't go to high mountains in winter, but it pulls me to go. Stenar seems a bit tamer regarding exposure. Of course if new snow falls I won't go. If someone can provide info I'd be grateful. I'll also check conditions the day before. LP

Today on Easter Monday we three guys with skis went to 2410m Križ. Skis need to carry about an hour. From top frozen, lower real paradise for skiing! Weather favored us, as snow showers started later. How it all went in attached video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1NeZjtnq8c LP, Matevž

Yesterday afternoon [to] Stenar via Sovatna, summit in fog, little snow. With some dodging of snowfields, it goes without ice axe and crampons. Lp

Yesterday's ascent to Kriški podi via Sovatna went without problems, crossing a couple of small snow patches. Aiming to conquer Stenar and Križ, but due to summer trekking shoes without winter gear, limited only to Križ after careful consideration. First small snowfield at the Križ-Stenar junction still crossable without issues, but the bigger steeper one before the Stenar face no go without winter gear by own assessment. On the ascent to Križ, small snowfields can be nicely bypassed, summit part needs more attention where a small rockfall at the cables buried part of the path below them. To the hut at Kriški podi and back to the valley via Sovatna without major issues. Bliss and peace with the best company, chamois and ibex

Hello! Planning a hike to Križ from Aljažev dom in Vrata past the bivouac at Rušje, then to Stenar and overnight at Pogačnikov dom. Second day hike to Razor and descent to Vršič. Wondering if the path is normally passable without winter gear or if the snowfields are avoidable? Thanks and best regards

The path to Križ is normally passable past the bivouac at Rušje. For the rest, I don't know.

SmaXy, last year with my son we descended from Razor to Prisojnik and on the descent from Razor to the saddle there is a nasty snowfield probably there all year, can't bypass it and almost impossible to cross without crampons, so crampons 100%, ice axe highly recommended, helmet mandatory for Razor......

my wife is the good one mainly.. for her it was already a real feat length-wise... together it was a good 20 h over both days, but true we lingered in many spots besides the path and took pics too.. that's my passion
