One more question. With which of our secured paths could the short climbing section from Peklenske vrat be compared?

Ugh. Maybe with some of the steeper spots on Silvot Koren. In short, it's like this: the wall is quite steep, not quite vertical though, there are pegs, but fewer than we're used to on most Slovenian secured paths, plenty of natural holds, the cable is currently in good condition, but attached more sparsely than we're used to from Slovenia. It's a short section of course. Need to watch out, but not awful.

I have to say this short ferrata on the path to Strma Peč thrilled me. I really liked climbing on natural holds you have to look for, not on pegs and pitons (three or four can be found anyway). Well, here and there I used the cable of course, but the rock is super. Descent worried me a bit, but it goes just as well as up.

Everything is dry and even above Pecol there's nothing to see and probably only patches are hiding. Secured part still perfect, circular path from the saddle heavily eroded (not recommended).

Started early from Pl. Pecol and up the upper path to Strma peč. Met quite a few ibex along the way, nice weather and almost no wind. After a longer break at the top, descended via the valley to the lower path where there was a fire years ago. Took some pics of it with more info. Great day.

passable but be careful so no stone flies down.

Strma peč yesterday. Started at Na Žlebeh, continued via Pecol, Škrbina Vandul and ridge Viene to summit. Snow conditions quite varied, from wet frozen to dry snow, depending on location and height of course. Otherwise great sunny and lonely day.

Today again to the Western Julians, namely to Strma peč from planina Pecol via path 640 (over Škrbina Vandul and Viene). Path without remarks, but the rock step above Škrbina Vandul is quite steep but well secured, plenty of holds and steps. Also above Škrbina Viene several spots needing much care. Quite a few visitors. The new bivouac is to be praised, nicely arranged and clean.

The picture cannot show the true wilderness and vertical wall of Zabuš.

Young ones, otherwise under the peak a herd of over 50 ibex.

On Sunday with Primorci to Strma peč - Monte Cimone - 2380 m. Gathered at planina Pecol and set off in wonderful weather. Went up path 640 past Škrbina Forca di Vandul - 1986 m. To the Škrbina quite demanding secured path. Cables good, rock offers enough holds for hands and feet. Secured section not short. Steeply upwards. Then to saddle Viene - 2124 m with beautiful new bivouac. Before us to the left our goal Strma peč rises. Here full of ibex. Mountain looks majestic with terraced ascent to top. In half an hour from saddle to summit where magnificent panorama all around today. Montasio dominates of course. At top in glass case - glass unfortunately all broken - Mother Mary. From saddle Viene down path 621 to planina Pecol. Supposedly officially closed due to erosion and minor slides. First descent steep and path full of scree - great caution. Then traverses eroded part with dry larches from fire years ago. Circular path currently not recommended and longer than via Škrbina Vandul.

Now the secured section of the path comes.

Summit of Strma peč - plenty of space for sunbathing.

On the path from the top, those mannequins.

Nature has not yet recovered from the fire.

It really was a day as one can only wish for. To Strma peč on the last day of September, where we gathered from various corners. Many for the first time on this mountain. Me too. Summery at the top. And all praise to our guide Katja, who chose such a nice tour on a great Sunday. And we quite randomly met Branko. Otherwise we walked the whole path together, but met only on the descent.
