Suitable 2000ers for small children

I have a slightly unusual question. My husband and I want to take our two children (6.5 years and 9 years) to some easier and shortly accessible peak higher than 2000m. What do you recommend or advise? Can there be any issues with altitude sickness?

Maybe Viševnik, or Debela peč or Brda. Also Veliki vrh on Košuta, stopping at Kofce to treat kids to štruklje, is interesting. At 2000 m asl no one should have problems.

Olševa (Obel Kamen 1921m) - past Potočka zijalke. Start Sv. Duh. Just the first few meters from Potočka has wire rope! Lučki Dedec 2023m from Podvežak! Planjava 2392m from Kam. saddle! Regards

The path to Ojstrc or Hochobir is easy, very beautiful, view from the top even to Celovec, K-S Alps, Karavanke... Oh, and the path has no major cliffs or dangerous sections.

Debela peč, 2014, easiest hike to a two-thousander.

Debela peč and Brda connected in a circular tour, starting point in Medvedova konta, would be a very nice trip. Checked these days, only dense fog prevented the view. The trip is nicely described in Tina Mihelič's book: Julijske Alpe Bohinjske gore. Otherwise, I recommend the book With children to the mountains, which has suitable trips and everything you need to know about safety, suitability etc. when going to the mountains with children. The book is at the link below http://www.sidarta.si/izletnistvo/z-otroki-v-gore.html Good luck!

In addition to the above, maybe add Stol, Raduha, Storžič, the entire Košuta ridge, Begunjščica,... All these options are nicely described and choose easier paths. I have a 7-year-old son, 5-year-old daughter and it's no problem for them. Just boldly introduce them to the beauties of our mountains, they will be very grateful. Best, Andrej

To me all these hills don't seem so easy for children, especially Planjava from K.sedlo. Personally I don't like exposed paths, and I know Planjava is quite exposed. Otherwise I strongly recommend Stol, as the path is easy, views divine. Height is also suitable. Have a good time!

Planjava from Kamniško sedlo doesn't seem suitable to me either for a 6-year-old child. ttt what does shortly accessible peak mean to you? I have no idea how long your children can walk.

Nice and fairly easy two-thousander is Ledinski vrh in KSA. From the hut at Rinka waterfall to Fischauf is about 1 hour, then on to Mrzli dol to Savinjsko sedlo via Jezersko sedlo without wire to Ledinski vrh total 1h 45 (total 2h 45). From the top nice view of Baba, Rinke, Skuta, Dolgi hrbet, Grintovec and Kočna. You can also start from Jezersko to Češka koča to Kranjska koča and over the saddle to Ledinski vrh, or directly to Kranjska koča and then to L.vrh. However, personally I think the first variant is easier and more suitable for children. Choice is yours.

If wishes are over 2000m, need to slowly get children used to pegs too. I put Planjava third - after a few two-thousanders, you'll see how ready they are. Planjava, I personally consider as non-technical tour (exposure)! If I have inexperienced mountaineers with me, I warn them more about slipping hazard on terrain that doesn't look difficult and they walk more leisurely - on wire ropes and pegs I notice everyone pays great attention to every step and I don't see much accident risk (more falling rocks)! And always teach the child when descending (difficult terrain) to turn face to the rock not butt!!! Best

I suggest TOSC. We were there on Sunday, path very suitable and lots of interesting things if you go from Rudno polje.

Go to Krnska jezera. From Lepena it's less than 2 hours to the lakes, all surrounding hills a bit over 2000m (Velika baba, Montura, Šmohor, Lemež,..), extremely beautiful nature; as many gentians as you want! Helen

Lisa3, what's the path to Tosc like? My boyfriend and I wanted to go this year, but we went shorter to Lanževica instead. To Tosc it's supposedly pathless. Is orientation difficult? Thanks in advance

Raduha from Loka is also extremely easily accessible. Or Peca isn't difficult either, Rodica is suitable (but it's a long tour if you go from Ribčev Laz), Planjava from Korošica (not from Kamniško sedlo), Viševnik, Debela peč, .. Good luck!

You can't miss the path to Tosc even though it's not marked. On the way to Vodnikova, there's a sign on a rock by the path towards Tosc, and on the whole way to the summit you orient by cairns that often greet you all the way. We made it up yesterday and had no problems. Very nice tour, only Triglav was jealously wrapped in fog and didn't want to show itself. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the replies. Just to say, last week we went to Raduha, and the kids really enjoyed it because the path was easy and full of raspberries.

On Saturday I was with my 5-year-old son on Stol. Despite the fog and wind he was very satisfied, and he still had lots of energy left for the playground at Valvazorjev dom. For the circular path we took 6 hours.
