03.08.2013 From Prehodavci Hut towards Hribarice, then right to the path to Kopica and in Vratca Pass again right to Zelnarica, Kopica, Vel. and Mala Tičarica, descent via Štapce to Hut at Seven Lakes, then past Black Lake descent via Komarča to the valley. Ascent to Zelnarica and Tičarica is for lovers of peace, silence and mountain beauty. Photos

Autumn, golden larches and wonderful weather lured us again to our favorite Bohinj Mountains.
At Planina Ovčarija we turned towards Tičarica. We skipped the summit and continued towards Kopica. At around 2100 m snow started. From the top there is really a wonderful view of Zgornje Komne forests and parts of Triglav Lakes Valley 
At Mala Zelnarica there were some more visitors. But we didn't linger long at the top because we planned descent to Vratca saddle, traverse under Vršaki and descent to Triglav Lakes valley.
Descent was on kickstepped snow and the first part towards the traverse under Vršaki was also kickstepped. On the most exposed section though, despite strong heel kicks into snow, steps could no longer be made. The path section is in shade even in the afternoon and was fully icy. Since we saw the traverse was unsafe, we turned back to Vratca saddle. How right we were, we realized the next day wandering Triglav Lakes valley and saw helicopter rescue exactly at that spot. As we learned later, the traverse ended tragically for someone.
From Vratca saddle we didn't want to go home yet so we climbed the last one - Velika Zelnarica. No snow problem to the top.
We returned via valley behind Kopica, overnighted at Dedno polje until next trip.
Despite nice weather and high temperatures in the valley, it is winter in the high mountains. Not much snow but shady parts frozen all day. So go to mountains properly equipped!

Has anyone tried these days from Triglav Lakes Hut via Tičarica and Zelnarica and further via Hribarice? Is the path normally passable or are there still many "problematic" snow patches?
Any info welcome

From Vratca under Zelnarica to Hribarice winter gear is necessary (last weekend - don't think it's different now) "traverse" towards end quite demanding/steep...

We started from planina Blato, via planina Viševnik, Ovčarija, to Mala Tičarica, Kopica, both Zelnarici.. up to here no snow, or patches that can be avoided.. but in the valley through which we returned to planina Blato there is still lots of snow, but no problems how it is towards Prehodavci I don't know...

This year I plan to do the following tour: from Zadnjica to Prehodavci, then over Velika Špičja to Koča pri Sedmerih jezerih. Next day from there via Tičarica, Zelnarica, Hribarice, to Dolič (maybe Kanjavec in between - depending on pace and time), then to Triglav and descent to Planika. Last day return from Planika past Dolič back to Zadnjica. I did a very similar tour a few years ago, but then there was much less snow. At temperatures like today, snow will last a while

A week ago no snow issues on this path, except on descent from Zelnarica to saddle there is a snow patch ~10m long but steep. Can't cross without ice axe, but easy to bypass on rocks.

Good idea, Kanjavec ledges. Given that it is shadier there, there are probably still quite a few snow patches. But it is certainly good information that the path from Zelnarice, as Mokara says, is nicely passable.

We're not the fastest (usually we take as much as in the route descriptions). It took us 5 hours for this route. We returned behind Kopica.
Beautiful loop tour, recommend.

I'm interested why Mala Tičarica has the wrong stamp?

I think he made a small typo. Mala Zelnarica has the wrong stamp, because on the stamp it says Velika Zelnarica. That annoyed us so much that we didn't even go to the summit of Velika Zelnarica, and rain was chasing us too.

Mala Zelnarica is 10m higher than Velika Zelnarica.
