I haven't been to Turkish Mountain at this time of year yet! So please briefly describe where I need to be especially careful! Thanks for the answersnasmeh

Have you ever been in the high mountains in winter? If not, then wait for summer..

If you plan to go to Turska gora from Kamniška Bistrica, climb via Žmavčarje to the bivouac below Skuta. The path there is exposed to avalanches or can be icy. From the bivouac to the ridge, watch out for many snow-covered crevasses. Walking on the ridge requires care.

Since you obviously don't know the winter approach via Žmavcarji to Turkish Mountain, I'd recommend company of an expert on it. There are quite a few 'traps' there. In 'soft' as mentioned, avalanche danger, in hard slippery (steep), and holes from the bivouac onwards (I've fallen twice myself (luckily in shallower ones) eek) ...
In good conditions, the approach through Turski gully seems even easier to me. The ridge to the summit also always requires concentration and careful steps (exposed)! In bad conditions ...
It depends a lot on your experience.

Regards.

Experience is good, since I served my military service in Bohinjska Bela, so hiking in the mountains at this time of year doesn't pose major problems for me!
Then I'll rather go through Turski gully, which I already know!
Thanks again for the descriptionnasmeh

If you go through Turski gully, don't forget to take a helmet! The terrain is very crumbly, especially in spring.

I recommend you split this tour into two days. First day ascend from Kamniška Bistrica to Turkish Mountain and descend from the top back to the bivouac under Skuta, where you overnight.
Second day visit all the Rinke (ascent to them is easier than to Turkish Mountain) and return to the valley on the same path. nasmeh

Moderator, if you're already deleting various posts in this thread, then please delete some others too (e.g. Franc's variant via Boštjance and Kotliče...), which definitely don't belong in this thread (among normal winter approaches to Turkish Mountain)...

Yeah, you might be right Tomaž, well someone looks at what's written one way, others differently. Probably no one intends to harm anyone. Regards Franc

My boyfriend and I yesterday ascended from Logarska Valley to Frisch Hut on Okrešelj (trodden path, little snow, can be slippery, caution is advised), then continued towards Turski Gully. Lots of snow, it collapses, the path was untrodden, strenuous all the way to the gully, in the gully a fairly solid snow base that still collapses in windblown spots, so we didn't use crampons. The ascent was strenuous (from the hut on Okrešelj to the top of the gully 3h). Descent down the gully was a real treat (15 minutes - down the gully!). LP, Silva

My boyfriend and I went up from Logarska yesterday to Frisch hut at Okrešelj, (trodden path, little snow, can be slippery, caution not superfluous), then further towards Turski gully. Lots of snow, sinking, path was untrodden, strenuous all the way to the gully, in the gully fairly solid snow base that still sinks in wind-packed spots, so we didn't use crampons... LP, Silva

Interested in anything new? Snow conditions?

On Sunday, Janez, Peter and I left at 7am from the Logar Valley parking lot towards Okrešelj and then Turkish Mountain. Trail to Okrešelj was slightly frozen in the morning but doable without crampons. Warm sun greeted us at Okrešelj, signaling descent conditions would be tougher than ascent. We followed the straight trail towards Turkish Mountain but strayed a bit as the mentioned track went straight. Had to traverse right quite a bit to hit the right track. Correct track goes from GRS Celje bivouac right to Savinjsko sedlo then forks left straight up the gully. Being early we started the gully proper with ice axes and crampons - good call. Footsteps in the gully so ascent no issue just wind picking up top part. Early skiers and hikers from Žmavcarji direction already there after exiting gully. 20 min to Turkish Mountain summit well tracked passed quickly. Strong wind on top but mood excellent. Descent same route me on foot Janez and Peter skied it. Return trail tricky walking off track in churned snow sinking to knees but worth it. LP Andrej

Us too got drawn on Sunday from Logarska via Turski gully, but then we went further to Mali Rinka and then to Križ - Koroška Rinka. Early bird gets the worm, really! We started at 6:30 from valley, didn't linger or martini (tho it tempted) but descent conditions already unpleasant - collapsing, south snow and scary crusts! From gully top to Rinke trail trodden, also to Kranjska Rinka at fork but as said ascent easier than descent. Track holds some places sinks others. Since south slope steepness sunlit all day (Sunday extra warm) terrain and snowpack changes hour by hour literally! Water running from rocks hear little streams under snow - dangerous! So these reports don't help much best decide on spot. And smartly tho sun and peaks tempt need to get down too. Turn timely (same day slip on other side to Ledine path). Still worth going best early up!! Hope more cold days for touring.
Safe happy steps. mežikanje

Yesterday Esther, Damijan and I set off from the Kamniška Bistrica valley and onwards over Žmavčarje to Turska gora. As it was cloudy in the morning with occasional light rain, we decided on a somewhat longer break at the bivouac under Skuta. When the weather improved somewhat, Esther and I decided to ascend to Turska gora.
Bivouac nicely arranged, no more snow on the mentioned path except a short snowfield at the bottom. According to those who summited from Kamniško sedlo, there is another snowfield on the path, due to which many turned back. Turski žleb looked still quite snowy from the top. On Saturday I plan through Turski gully to Turska gora then via Kotliči to Brana, and I'm curious about the path from Turska to Kotliči. I know Turski gully, I know there's still snow inside, but from the top of Turska to Kotliči I haven't managed yet. Less experienced person coming with me, needs climbing harness.

As far as I saw in the posts, there is a dangerous snowfield on the path from Turska to Brana, so be careful, towards the top of Brana it should be dry...
