Today we set out to burn Easter treats on the forest path from Zavrha over the saddle to Šmarna gora. I got up there after 28 years, since before I saw it as warm-up before PE or punishment if we didn't listen in PE. Back then not so many people, today huge crowds and their four-legged friends. When you hit the gravel road, and even before on the bob trail it's annoying due to dust from so many feet. Otherwise the path from start is "the real one", warms you up and sweat runs nicely down your back. At top good sour milk and cold beer fit well. We'll repeat midweek, hope no such rush. Attaching pics, we enjoyed: Tia, Diana, Fanina, Tanja, Primož and Borut.

I don't count anymore how many times I've climbed Šmarna, long ago passed 1000x, still love nice pics from the mountain. So many paths as Šmarna g. has are rare in our hills. For us living nearby it's a great training ground for fitness and relaxation after hard workdays.

Today due to forecast afternoon thunderstorms, short workout on climbing path - over Turnc to Grmada.
Morning still all fresh, calm and shady due to west position. Pegs and cables held winter well, impeccable. Shame adrenaline runs out after ten minutes, length of Turnc vertical. Further meet only one hiker towards top, Sunday no more crowds. At Grmada top get morning sun, warm up a bit. For descent choose little known and very nice Freedom Path (Turnška pot), which viewed from below branches off from Westrova ridge path just above left turn to climbing path. Quite narrow, airy to the right, cuts Turnc horns eastwards. Passes famous top horn spot with bench and great view to Tacen and Sava. In Zatrepuna turn right, first wide cart track (ca 50m), then right narrow path (path over Turnc from Vikrče), keep to the right at next junction. Cross deer feeding ground to Little Turnc training area, picnic clearing and volleyball court. Shortly after arrive at starting point and parking in forest. For climbing path goers, this loop is quite nice and useful. As kids we hiked (climbed) all hidden paths, so know there's another steep crossing a bit higher at climbing path start (already past rock squeeze), but it may be overgrown. That's off-trail domain. No pics, empty battery, will add later on repeat trip.

I have quite some mountain km hiked, one way or another, but was surprised discovering Pogačnik path to Grmada. Interesting, really.

Enough adrenaline and long enough to forget thoughts of valley burdens in a short time and breathe deeply within yourself. Just recently I was up there and it's quite good and also close to Ljubljanans.

 Yes that's the "so-called" climbing path.... Midway it joins Westrova maybe.. well dozens of paths lead to Šmarna or grmada.... this just shows that you always discover something new...Otherwise entered on hribi net under Vikrče - Šmarna gora (Pogačnikova pot) with 10153 views already...

Oh, ajda, thanks for the nice welcome. Anyway, the hike was interesting also because I got photographed there with our known alpinist to whom foreign mountains are no stranger He said he trains on this tour, but really climbed it three times while I was happily snacking on Grmada.

Since you wrote about this path to Grmada recently, I went to hike it today too. I started in Vikarčah and via Pogačnikova path to Grmada and on to Šmarna gora. It was really quiet today on this path; only on Grmada I met the first walker. On Šmarna gora there were some people, not many; some just run up and return right away. I sit a bit in the warm sun and drink a coffee. I return by the same path back. Nice regards to all.

Hi, Ajda! Did you see any narrow-petaled narcissus on Grmada? I hope that when you went along the ridge, you looked down the right slope...., lots and lots of narcissus are blooming there now. Regards and safe steps, Minca.

I went over the ridge, yes; some bunches of narcissus grow right by the ridge. Lower down the slope I didn't look - pity. Nice regards to you too.

Today, despite the severe heat in Ljubljana, I headed via Pogačnik climbing to Šmarnogorska Grmada. On the path the sun was beating all the time on the ridge path almost to the top. On the top ridge, where the path levels off, I finally retreat to the shade of trees by the path, and the altitude compared to the lowland makes slightly cooler air with a light breeze. Up on the ramp for kite flyers a couple is sunning; I make some more pictures and descend past the saddle via Svoboda path and finally Kovačeva to the namesake inn. Then a short walk to the forest parking under Turnc. Nice tour as always and close at hand.
