No. I wouldn't describe only half the story. During the descent to Žmavčarje we did hear the helicopter, but somewhere on the other side of the ridge.

Tone, for central SLO mountaineers these pics today are like waving a red rag in front of a bull's nose.

Regarding my first post, first greet all mountain friends. I'm a pathless fan and this Great Ridge "torments" me a long time. Can it be compared, say, to Captain's Ridge on way to Brana? If someone been up recently and attach new pics for easier orientation on route, would "buy" it too.

Nothin' to worry about!..."payment method" among Šodrovci is beer... ...greetings back Here it's a bit more "airy", and basically, Kaptan I hope even if pointed curses fall (read rain, wetness), the Ridge absolutely not, cuz too much grass and scrub ...in snow it's different poetry ...last time before ridge start it was pretty chainsawed, so you see need to cross one more gully and round next bend...when I went first time, end of approach "ramp" misled me up...initial climbing (bolted II) got complicated, had to self-rescue ...lucky someone before me screwed up once, eased it with double anchor ... For me personally, one of more adrenaline ridges I like repeating

Kaptanski really easier. Here annoying slings on hardest spots. Spoil ridge feel a bit. Real nice ridge that ends too soon. Just warm up and...[smile] Orientation no issues. Maybe just start when cross to other side of ridge.

Thanks to both for the reply . That means be most careful at the entry to the ridge, across the gully and then behind the bend.... Yeah, nothing, year 2021 one of the plans.

Gamsov skret - Great ridge - Žmavčarji. Nice scrambling on attractive ridge that runs out too quickly.

Circular Konec-Great ridge-Sleme-Kogel-Gamsov skret-Konec 17.6.2023: Ten days ago we walked in those areas with Ris and my gaze kept drifting to the Great ridge. Nice weather was forecast for that day so I went to try what would come of it. Not the first time, but a bit different. I started on the path to Žmavčarji and at the cave turned under the wall of the Great ridge. Access to the ridge under that wall is very demanding and really got my blood pumping. On the grasses where I climbed to the ridge, a wonderful view opened up. The start along the ridge was quite promising. Steep grasses with a combination of rock, some larches and scrub. As usual, the nicer passages were on the right above the precipitous wall of the ridge. Higher up there were fewer of these passages and I had to battle the scrub. It took quite a lot of my energy. After a solid hour I was at the place where you reach the ridge from Trat under Gamsov skret. The lower section was quite nice for me but I won't repeat it. The scrub soon runs out and then I just enjoyed the beautiful views and climbing. But the difficulty is such that you have to stay focused all the time. To make it even harder, a gusty east wind blew, which knocked me to all fours several times. I also gladly grabbed the fixed protections. At the top, during a break, I watched a herd of chamois on the scree under Streža. Due to considerable fatigue, I abandoned continuing to Skuta and headed via Sleme to Kogel. I had plenty of time and scooped up the beauties of nature with a big spoon. I circled around Kogel and only then realized how big it really is. This time I descended through Gamsov skret for the first time and there is a big difference from ascending it. A playful marmot on the lower bench and the afternoon sun additionally beautified the descent for me. Tired but with one more memory of a nicely done tour, I ended a wonderful day. Regards and safe steps to all from under the beautiful Golte, Janez🙂

"Fivefingers"... interesting footwear choice. How do they perform in high mountains? Is the sole rigid enough to cushion sharp rock pressures?

JanG: They work well for me. Good on all terrains, especially on rock. Sole has puncture-proof membrane. Should hold crampons too but not tried. At the start it tickles soles like barefoot, gradually adjust so muscles don't hurt. Then it's hard to put hiking boots back on. In spring I wait impatiently for warm days to wear them up there and enjoy. After each tour, machine wash them.

Which variant is recommended if you'd like to visit Great Ridge and Kogel? What should I watch out for? Thanks. Tomorrow I'd go, if anyone wants to join
