In the near (maybe still this year) or not so near future (next year) I want to climb this via ferrata. When reading comments and various descriptions I don't get proper information or can't extract an objective opinion. On one side lots of boasting and bragging, on the other quite a bit of exaggeration about difficulty and about some needed arm strength and about the (for some) notorious for others completely easy overhang etc. In short, please for, if possible, as objective and realistic opinions as possible about the difficulty of this via ferrata or opinions on whether it is suitable for an adult man in early middle age, of average strength, who has climbed along cables and is used to "scrambling" on rocks smile. As I mentioned I want to climb some (sport) via ferrata and have to start somewhere... Thanks and best regards and safe steps.

Hi, the via ferrata is not that demanding. Sure, in the very lower part there's a bit of vertical where you have to pull yourself up more and the rock is a bit slippery due to soil, but still not overly. Upper part is nice scrambling. LP

Tilenko, thx. What about that famous overhang? They say if you're tall enough, no big problems, you can climb it nicely. Problems or technically harder for shorter ones.

Hard to explain the difficulty of this via ferrata to someone who has no experience with via ferratas yet. The via ferrata has sort of two key spots and especially the starting part, where you need to be careful due to muddy and often wet rock. Both key parts are relatively short. The first is somewhat overhanging and about two to three meters long. Due to the overhang arms suffer quite a bit. If you use good technique arms don't suffer as much. The second key part is at the beginning of the second part and consists of just two moves. Especially shorter ones sometimes have problems as you need to pull yourself up. Here you can try multiple times, as you stand on fairly comfortable terrain and no danger of a bad fall. Via ferrata rated D/E. Compared to via ferratas of similar difficulty, this one is among the easier for the rating. If not confident enough, best to tackle it with some experienced who can help you out of trouble with a rope. If you're averagely built man with some fitness, you should almost manage it. Don't underestimate it at all as quite a few people got burned in it. My wife and I had no problems in it. True, by then we had some quite harder via ferratas behind us.

What is average man anyway.. if you have strength in arms to pull yourself up from standing then you're fit enough also for sport via ferratas. Can't say it simpler

If this is your first via ferrata I recommend skipping the first part which is a bit harder. At the lower start of via ferrata you'll see on the left a small path that bypasses the lower part and joins the via ferrata at the start of the second part, where right at the beginning a short harder part awaits you. If you get over this no more difficulties ahead, if you get stuck you can still return via the path to the valley. But they have already rescued people from the first overhanging part who couldn't manage the overhang. Recommend visit in dry weather.

Thanks a lot everyone for useful info. Based on what's written I'll probably really skip the first part and try the second to get a feel.

Three moves are harder, the rest goes fine. But because of morning walk on wet path, later fun on the via ferrata.

I studied these "popular" via ferratas a bit... my choice from least demanding to most demanding (of course none to underestimate): 1. Red variant of via ferrata in Mojstrana 2. Via ferrata to Czech Hut 3. Zelenica right variant of via ferrata Will it hold?

Zelenica (right branch), Gonžarjeva peč, last sector on Lisca, if we drop the pegs it's poor D;... Everything else here doesn't even reach D grade!!!

don quixote: I respect your opinion. I assume you're not some "amateur" hiker or mountaineer but maybe even an experienced climber. Therefore, your ratings are quite subjective. Surely many agree with them. As for me, as an "amateur mountaineer" who wants to climb a somewhat more "adrenaline-packed" via ferrata and not get stuck in it :), it interests me which of the listed ones, or if any at all, to tackle first. You have to start somewhere...

Climbing path to Skala in Slovenske Konjice, via ferrata in Lavamünd and first four sectors on Lisca... I'd recommend also training via ferratas in Glinščica near Trieste, where you can climb even in winter months if not too harsh winter... The point is to stick to the rule of gradualness and increasing it according to experience. Only then will you start enjoying via ferrata climbing

Tnx for suggestions. Do you know the listed ones? Mojstrana, Zelenica, Czech Hut? Czech Hut attracts me most. Live and see...

Czech Hut is in wonderful surroundings, max grade C/D apart from having rubber cones for fall absorption and that material (cable, anchor bolts) from Tyrol, the installation by contractors not exactly best done... In my opinion this is not a sport via ferrata... (just my personal opinion) Mojstrana I won't comment at all, Zelenica is the real thing and also first Slovenian E...

Hey, both Lisca and Czech are fairly easy. Go where it's closer to you. If you want to complicate, maybe start with Lisca. Short and sweet via ferrata. Nice sunny side, at top hut and deserved beer. On Czech via ferrata there's a section a bit harder (check pics), whole tour quite long, at top again: hut and beer. At end to Gonžarca. Lonely, quite hard via ferrata, almost no visitors, no hut. Valid for all via ferratas: easier if in company.

Was there yesterday, although unlucky, as it rained all the time and some scree was flying... Below ferrata snow all along gully, so access easier than usual... Lower part loose as always, but cables hold... Pegs ok here. Middle (at waterfall) snow unproblematic... Then middle section two intermediate pegs gone, cable hanging but nothing critical.. No snow up to point where path levels before hut... No problems anywhere On return snow still there but soft, sinks 20 cm.. Forest path back to cablecar ok despite tree falls.. Mostly no acrobatics over logs
