Višarje (Monte Lussari)

Also this year I decided to ride my bike to Višarje. In recent years I go there almost at least once to this pilgrimage paradise. I get on the bike in Trbiž and ride along the FGV cycle path to Valbruna. At the end of the village at the main intersection I turn left into the climb and after about two km just before the second wooden bridge across the road I turn left onto the gravel path. I continue another approximately 300m and cross the concrete bridge and arrive at the water trough. From here the path starts to climb steeply; there are less than 7 km to the top. The first 5 km are extremely steep as the gradient hardly lets up for a meter. After that the path levels out and I spot Višarje. In these 5 km I made 720 vertical meters. From here the path is almost 1 km flat. The last km stands up vertically again, especially the last 250m. After that the path levels out and to the houses there are still some flat meters. We can go left or right around the hill. At the top as always picturesque with wonderful views in all directions. I ride to the cross above the final station of the gondola cable car, where I rest a bit, take some photos and then back to the path on the left side of the hill. At the top there is also construction of a new ski connecting piste between Florjanka and Višarje. Probably operational this winter already. I ride down the valley on the same path. The path itself is in excellent condition as they completely renovated it two years ago. The tour as I mentioned is extremely scenic but quite demanding, especially the last 7 km climb (820 vm).

I'm interested whether there's still a large sign before the start of the ascent where it's written that road traffic is prohibited for cars, cyclists, and pedestrians too. Can you still ride?

I wouldn't know how to answer that. But I met our car with KR registration which was right under the summit. Otherwise after about one km there is also a barrier which is open. But be careful anyway as mentioned they are building a ski slope and you meet trucks on the path.

Well, the traffic prohibition sign is still posted.

Before the climb start stands a large sign from Promotur, owner of these cable cars; what it says I didn't read. A traffic sign for traffic ban but I didn't see it there.

traffic is prohibited except for those locals because they have jobs at Višarje and have obtained traffic permit from the province, for cyclists: watch out for trucks at least until they finish work on the new ski slope because it will operate this winter season.winking

Already several times at Višarje, this time first in winter. Parked in Žabnice, still quite some space at 9am. Almost from the start the path was snowy, very trodden and very icy in many places. Only a few were without small crampons and they had quite some trouble. They also picked themselves off the ground. Initially clear weather, then it started clouding over. Incredibly many visitors. Wonderful, undemanding ascent with beautiful views over Višarska planina and from the top. smile

Yesterday on the path from Žabnice. Lower part is icy and without crampons it's hard going. Higher up conditions better. Surprisingly lots of visitors, mainly Austrians.

Pilgrimage path to Višarje nicely snowy, wide track also packed. Lower and upper parking at start fully plowed. Worth starting at least by nine, processions later. We met crowds of hikers, snowshoers and such only on return. Path in deep shade in the morning till Višarska planina, then sun shines widely on it smile.
Parking lot at the start of the pilgrimage trail. At 8:30 surprisingly no crowds yet.1
The road to the upper parking lot is passable but also quite slippery.2
We meet only a few hikers, processions are winding on the way back.3
The lower settlement will hold for another winter or two, not much more.4
The snow is mushy, so you put on snowshoes right away.5
One of the nicely renovated way of the cross stations.6
Above Višarska planina we catch the first sun.7
May it bring them luck :)8
Real winter reigns here, there's more and more snow too9

For the weekend promised sun in the west and this time we went to find it at Višarje. Start wasn't promising, nor continuation. But reward for persistence came. Just below summit winter shone in all beauty and called a smile from ear to ear. Sun chased fog and made Olympic atmosphere big. Little church also open, used to visit after long time. Surprisingly no other visitors, probably too early. Village mostly deserted.

Completely different on return. Haven't met so many people for a long time, if ever. If I say hundreds, I wasn't much mistaken. Walkers, snowshoers, hikers crowded narrow track in upper part and below on road not much better. If anywhere, here surely .... early hour, golden hour smile.

Path wise small crampons enough, snowshoes not needed nor gaiters. Below icy, above due to inversion slightly softened. Ski tracks to Stone Hunter too. Conditions during our visit, won't change much till next snow. Then all starts anew ...
The parking lot for the pilgrimage path to Višarje is already completely full at 8 a.m.1
The ascent past the last houses is so icy that we immediately put on small crampons2
Here the Sentiero del Pellegrino begins, the pilgrimage path to Višarje3
So early there is still not much traffic. There are some pedestrians, some hikers.4
The roof gave way years ago and time is gnawing at it ever faster.5

Ingenious Austrian :) She is wearing a dog backpack so they can descend the ski slope with the dog.7
The somewhat weary signpost has seen unimaginable multitudes of people over time.8
There is about this much snow in front of Višarska planina ...9
Well, look at that .... sun :)10
Beautiful weather on the west side, fog on the east.11
No gaiters needed this time, but they aired out well :)12
Mountain beach before the foggy sea. Visitors are already undressing :)13
Village in mysterious fog, and even a nimbus appeared in my reflection :)14
Wonderful views, one way or another :).15

This time there is not much snow, I have also walked the ditches already.19
Tourism is primarily at home here, which is entirely normal with such mass visitation.20

The descent is something special. We meet so many people we can hardly believe it.22

Greetings
Bagi, which path did you take on 20.12.2022?
I don't know those areas so well, the path looks nice and trodden

@gorvhribe ... we walked the Pilgrimage path, which is the usual winter access for all walkers, hikers and whoever else smile. The other accesses to Višarje in winter are not trodden. The mentioned pilgrimage path runs left of the ski slope through the narrow valley. This is basically a gravel road to Višarska planina.

The parking lot is at the start of this path by the last houses, you can't drive further. If coming from the center of Trbiž, turn left from the main road onto the narrow asphalt road soon after the Spar shop and before the Dawit inn. The large parking lot is about 500 m further.

For better understanding I attached two pics, parking coordinates: 46°30'15.6"N 13°32'25.3"E

Walk well and enjoy maximally smile

DVas,
28.1. lots of snow, trodden to bare ground, these days don't go without crampons, because it can be icy (glazed). Definitely from Žabnice up, along the pilgrimage path.
