I have to admit that this year I miss the mountains, which I cannot visit due to knee injury recovery. Next year it will be better. That's why your tour and picture posts bring me wonderful feelings. nasmeh

Today on a mountain ramble from planina Konjščice, Malega polja, viewing the lakelet - that disappears in summer, planina pod Mišelj vrhom, planina Velo polje and past Vodnikov dom back. Studorski preval is covered with snow. Mid-morning crampons weren't needed. The path from the pass to Vodnikov dom is locally destroyed due to landslides. I descended to Malo polje at the path junction before reaching the hut - to Malega polja there's snow. Malo polje is quite watery. I viewed the main source of the stream and its end at the end of the valley. The lakelet behind Malo polje is nice. In summer it dries up. I went to see the abandoned planina pod Mišelj vrhom - history. Back to planina Velo polje - pity - spring storms bury it with scree. The path to Vodnikov dom is also locally destroyed. It looks like the avalanche rushed across the terrace and scattered benches and fences down the slope - terrace is empty - on the north side of the hut there's still lots of snow. From the hut back across vast snowfields up to the scree. At noon there are no problems with crossing, because the snow softens - it doesn't sink.

Across the beautiful planina Konjščice up.

Planina Jezerce towards Srenjski preval is covered with snow.

It goes well on softened snow in the mid-morning.

At the top of Studorski preval - left is Ablanca.

The landslide is also crumbling a little.

After the podor a beautiful view of the peaks.

At the end of the field it disappears under the snow.

A small pond which is not there in summer.

Alpine pasture below Mišelj vrh - has seen better days - now almost abandoned.

One building on the pasture is being renovated.

Here they have had a milking parlor for years - on Konjščica they will have one too.

Still the loveliest - alpine pasqueflower.

Looks like no one has written anything about Vodnikov dom for three years already. Yesterday I set off very early from planina Konjščice to Vodnikov dom, on the return I treated myself to some climbing on Ablanca.

On the path to Planina Konjščica, the babbling of the clear mountain stream making cute waterfalls wakes you.

Planina Konjščica is still asleep. Livestock not yet here.

Frost, Viševnik dusted with snow is visible.

At half past six in the morning it was quite chilly.

Towards Vodnikov dom from Studorski preval the rocky path was frozen in places.

The house mountain always impresses me - Vernar.

On the way back, also some climbing on Ablanca.

Then the path to the top finally shows itself.

What sort of climbing is this on Ablanca? Is the path followable, belaying needed?

Ablanca is a two-thousander worth visiting. Start at Studorski preval. Path unmarked. Start a bit tricky as we ascend crumbly scree and rocks. No actual path in these rocks. Somehow you guess where predecessors climbed. Crossings over this rock terrain offer themselves. Stick to more central right direction. Don't stray too left or trouble quick. Climbing doesn't exceed I degree. Inexperienced recommend experienced company. Years ago saw foreigners with problems especially on descent. So caution! Rock must be dry. Yesterday towards noon it was dry.

What is the trail like from Pokljuka to Vodnikov dom? I really want to get there but I'm very vertigo-prone eek

and exposed crossings worry me. Is Vodnikov dom already renovated?

Hello.
I'm interested in info about the winter room at Vodnik Hut. Is it unlocked, accessible for use?
We plan to use the next (maybe last) sunny weekend, it would be great for overnight. Best regards nasmeh

Officially on PZS:
Vodnik Hut at Velem Polje is closed. Overnight possible in winter room, equipped with 8 beds and blankets. nasmeh

Yesterday I went only to Vodnik Hut. Started late at the parking lot before Planina Konjščica. It was all taken. Have to park lower by the road. I didn't even know that Planina Konjščica is somehow dying for the second year, if I may say so. Shame that it's no longer grazed. No one on the whole pasture. Grass of course ungrazed - extremely high. The stream doesn't care and bubbles merrily. Also higher under Studorski Pass the spring is still active. Water is pleasantly refreshing. Then on to the path to Vodnik Hut. I go to Vodnik Hut every year at this time to photograph mountain flowers. But I didn't find any rhelikanijeve murke anywhere, not under Tosc. They grow where the path to Tosc branches off and under the path, nor at Vodnik Hut. But lower I found red murke. There's plenty of other mountain flowers. Hut is operating. They serve through the window. The warden complained that visits are modest - no foreigners who used to be numerous. Met only a couple of Czechs. This year they won't even cover operating costs. Friendly young guy serves. This youth in huts always impressed me. Directed a group of young people discovering our mountain world to Tosc. Youth needs proper guidance into our mountain world, which our umbrella organization PZS seems to be insufficiently aware of. Hiking forums do the most for hiking, with nicely described and pictured paths. On club hikes there's virtually no youth.
