Washing mountaineering clothes

I haven't noticed a similar topic yet, a bit curious how and with what you wash mountaineering clothes. Do you wash by hand or machine? ...

Hiking clothes I wash in the machine with mild liquid detergent /coral,lenor.../ and obligatorily without softener and at low centrifuge spins, so they are not too wrinkled. LP

And when you take one out, do you have the handbook with you too?

I opened the topic because there's no new one yet, maybe someone will write that a certain detergent badly affects hiking clothes.

... and made the forum even more unreadable with the thousand-and-first quasi-topic, without which future generations would easily get by.

Now go cry and up a tree and delete comments, as is your constant practice.

this topic isn't worth the space on this forum, someone should ask Tadej to delete it Regards Klemen

Look at you heroes, you'd delete it.. even though I'm sure this topic can be much more interesting for a wider audience than conditions in alpine routes Ok, back to the topic: Haven't washed Goretex yet, no need somehow. Active wear, fleeces..etc I wash exclusively with washing powder without softener, and never dry them in the dryer. Anyone have experiences with Goretex cleaners? Last time Toko ones impressed me, but not sure if they're still available in Slovenia Regards, P.

I've been trampling dirt for quite a few years now, but haven't needed a forum yet to wash my socks, whatever they were. Haven't ruined any yet, only decorated them with some forgotten paper tissue.

You probably read the instructions on the washing machine that's why you don't need a forum, right? Smart guy. In Annapurna where I got my last article, she kindly advised me to wash only with regular shampoo without any additives. I wasn't the only one asking about washing. More people, more knowledge. Clothes aren't that cheap, except maybe for some who treat themselves to new gear every year to be IN and spout wisdom on these forums about everything.

Some unfortunately or fortunately for certain segments of life don't need instructions.

Usually sports socks are washed at 40 degrees, with regular washing powders, without softener and god forbid drying in the dryer. I spin at 1200 rpm too and no panic. So far everything is fine, socks serve the purpose for a long time. The only thing that bugs me is that on active underwear it says it can be washed at 95. Has anyone tried that?

Misantrof: I agree, self-sufficiency is a virtue bostjanp: I think it doesn't even need to be washed at 95.

@bostjanp: Washed Craft at 60, didn't try higher because no need. Oh, it survived without consequences @snork: if I don't post ascents on this forum, it doesn't mean I don't climb by far. If someone asks, I gladly help, but I don't see sense in posting ascents on a forum where grades M5, 7c+, V+, WI5 are incomprehensible to 75+% of visitors. I post my ascents on other dedicated sites. And no mistake - such posts don't bother me and I have nothing against them. But beginner posts and questions who are just getting to know the mountain world, gear etc don't bother me either. Also I don't dare take the right to decide what belongs on this forum and what not - that's exclusively for the admin. And if it makes it easier for you - I admit lately I'm more drawn to sport climbing than alpine waters; nothing you can do, I just love moving on the edge of falling Regards, P.

What are some of you playing at?! If the topic is uninteresting to you, then don't read it, nor comment on it. But if certain users get on your nerves and you think you have to "shut them up" at any cost, then I really don't know, well... take that to PM. The forum is called General discussions and not Who has the longer... and the topic washing and maintaining sports clothes is extremely interesting to me, and I believe to many others, and fully belongs in General discussions, especially since, as LG says, not much has been written on this topic so far. My opinion.

Hello, I also wash goretx (sometimes you have to, especially with lighter colors the dirt shows quickly, and some smell is sometimes annoying); apparently the impermeability is better afterwards (pores in the fabric get clogged, detergent fixes that). I used a special detergent, liquid powder, NIKI-...something, you get it in Iglu, and in Kibuba too. After washing it's recommended!! to dry the laundry in the dryer, because it additionally impregnates it. Alternative is ironing, but I haven't tried that. I can confirm that goretex works excellently even after longer use, approx 10 years. LP, Manca

@ manca: are you saying for goretex that it can go in the dryer after washing with that special powder? @zebdi: yes it's craft and it surprised me when it says it can be washed at 95. so far everything's ok when I wash at 40. I follow the instructions on the labels, because I once ruined a jacket out of ignorance and it went from mountaineering to everyday jacket. oh, and when washing I add extra rinse function and repeat it once after washing, so that any remaining unrinsed powder in the socks is really removed. Current powders, especially liquid ones, are extremely strong and need to be well rinsed out of the socks so they don't irritate the skin with sweat, heat and sun combo.

Well, then I'm weird, because I don't add powder when washing, since mostly the clothes are just sweaty. GTX I've only "washed" under the shower so far.

I'll chime in, girls first "wash" me under the shower (I'm just sweaty). Then we can arrange for you to wash me in the dryer and dry me in the washing machine . Now seriously, minimal amount of washing powder, and somehow at thirty in the washing machine, absolutely no softeners, if some stain remains then f... it, brother or sister will soon get it .
