I browsed through books, but couldn't figure out which little plant this is... Surely some "mountain" botanist here can help me.

Maybe a wilted alpine cudweed?

I thought of that too, but alpine cudweed doesn't have such leaves, doesn't grow in cushions on rocks and even when wilted it looks a bit different...

Anka, many thanks! It really is alpine edelweiss, but in the books I was looking through, it's shown only in flowering state.

I think among us mountaineers there are many experts in mountain flowers and we like to take such pictures too and it might be appropriate to upload pics from our mountain hikes here. Flowers bloom at different times and places. Some of our flowers are only ours and you won't find them anywhere in Europe. Cameras vary too and some get really nice pics. I don't have the best camera. We have a list of flowers on the web here and help each other identify there too. True we attach them to tours but it'd be good to have them in one place always handy without searching. Are you for it? As a sample I add just three from yesterday's hike to Komna.

Yesterday I was in Bohinj at sister's but she knew nothing about this festival. Pity on one hand! Anyway I'm in Srednja vas several times a year. Also ski at Senožete, my relatives are part owners. I didn't know the second flower is Burser's rockjasmine, it's so similar to alpine silene. But there's lots on Komna. Bohinj iris surprised me on descent via Komarča, quite a bit among rocks, even at Savica source. Never noticed before. Thanks again for kind invite!

Your second flower IS alpine silene. Rock jasmine (specifically evergreen) is the flower from Fluid's post. Burser's rock jasmine isn't at all like alpine silene except that both have a white flower. Bohinj iris does grow on steep rocks of Komarča, but the name doesn't have "bearded".

Peter2, really compared to you I'm more of a layman in the knowledge of mountain flowers. But I'm learning. Generally, I'm a flower lover whether garden or wild. On my flowerbeds, for example, I grow over 50 kinds of narcissus, 30 kinds of bearded irises, 20 kinds of marsh marigolds. You can't imagine what a rainbow of colors we have around our home. Best regards.

Peter2, just now reading Nedelo and on the last page there's an article titled Alpine Flower Festival - Ukanc in Bohinj - For botanical connoisseurs. If not for the party today for birthdays of my older daughter and her partner in their mountain paradise in Stiška vas under Krvavec, I'd rush to Bohinj. Next year I must put it in my calendar. It says it's the fifth year in a row. Best regards.

Correction, the fourth flower is not the same as I now figured out, so three riddles. Best regards.

Peter2, after extensive searching through your list I think I found all three flowers. The first two are stream speedwells, the second is plane-leaved golden saxifrage, so some hiker was right who said it must be from the saxifrage genus because it has the same leaves. The third I think is hairy hawkweed. In the future I'll try to identify them first and then post. I'm curious if I was successful this time.

Alpine flora only this year fully hooked me, especially flowers. Peter2, you've completely addicted me. I made my own list for learning in alphabetical order of little flowers with main descriptions to recognize them easier. This time two from hike to Kranjska koča on Ledine.
