I don't know where you can go in Slovenia where you can somehow get to the starting point from the nearby area by bus.

Tržič, then you have starting points for Kofce, Dobrča and Kriška gora. Otherwise a bit more walking, but you start directly from the bus station. Bus schedules are another story.... Good luck!

With public transport visiting Črna prst is possible too. In Bohinjska Bistrica take the train to Podbrdo (just through the tunnel) and then over Črna prst back to Boh. Bistrica. To Boh. Bistrica by train or bus. Of course check the schedules before.

In Kamniška Bistrica there are almost countless starting points for tours.

I went last Saturday specifically to test this connection: 5:30 from main bus station in LJ towards Mojstrana; 7:30 caught in Mojstrana at Mercator minibus to Vrata Around 8am started from Vrata along Tominškova to Staničev dom, continued to Vodnikov dom, since I had some time left jumped to Tosc and descended towards Spodnja Grintovica and since there was still plenty of time to the last bus from Ribčev Laz to the capital climbed also to Zgornja Grintovica and Krstenica, from there descent to Voje, did a few splashes in Bohinj Lake and caught penultimate bus to the capital in Ribčev Laz, at 18:48 or with a 20-minute delay it left. This and next Saturday the trip can still be repeated, after that I think the bus from Mojstrana to Vrata won't be for a long time. BTW. Is the thread related to European Mobility Week? ;-)

We went a few years ago (I think six of us) by train from Nova Gorica to Bohinjska Bistrica. Then connection by bus to below Vogel. To Vogel by cable car. I remember we could use senior discount. Then continued walking over Rodica, Črna Prst, across Bačarsko sedlo to Podbrdo to the train. Nice tour.

I often practice such traverses with public transport. (My very favorite experiments. Sometimes they don't work out as planned. ) This one is from August: 5:30 from main bus station in LJ to Kranj; 6:40 caught summer Sunday bus towards Jezersko and got off at Kanonir, then to Stegovnik, Ženiklovec, Storžič, over Psica to Tolsti vrh, Kriška gora to Tržič and caught bus at 18:25 from Tržič back to capital. Then my Garmin even lasted/recorded the whole route: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/11886501653

Indi your schedules seem crazy to me. Wow. Both tours very interesting. At the same time let me ask you what the path from Tosc via Spodnja and Zgornja Grintovica to Krstenica was like? Well marked or easy to get lost?

If you want to use public transport for hiking, you have to get used to walking fast (good motivation) and become a detective for researching timetables. Between Vodnikov dom and junction to Tosc (Na Zagonu) there's a sign Bohinjsko jezero 3h and on the way down you can't get lost (that to Zgornja Grintovica and Krstenica is [not necessary> detour from path to lake), it's well marked and almost without forks. Useful connection also for Tosc by bus.

Those close to the mountains can talk about public transport. The rest of us will pick mushrooms? Or go to the mountains for two days and spend one day traveling? Sustainable transport system? It existed like that about 50 years ago. Some remember it. We'll have to get used to bread several days old again.

Dolenjci wouldn't see the mountains if they relied on public transport. And not just Dolenjci...

Even from Dolenjska I have practice with mountain trips using public transport. This was one Saturday winter stage of Jakob's path: 7:34 in Ljubljana on the train to Novo mesto from there on foot towards Straža, Frati, Vrhtrebnje and in Trebnje in the evening by train back towards the capital. I somehow manage to find such connections quite well. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/10543782017

When we went to Črna prst and Porezen, we went by train. It was just fine for me. You can even take the dog with you. But you have to inquire beforehand if the train goes to that station and there's no replacement bus where they repair the line. It happened several times that the train was delayed. Once I remember, I think we hiked Julijana; we waited for it more than an hour. No one complained.
