Žakelj's bivouac on "Stebrasta skala" Mežakla

Ha, Juš, for you it's only LG, look around a bit when you walk in the mountains, forest and stumble upon hunting huts, various private houses, huts, etc. You know how many don't have permission to be there. Shame that this bivouac on the rock is such a color and not more natural. Otherwise, if he likes it there, let him.

And what will be when Mr. Žakelj one day passes away (and I wish him as many years as possible)? He carried a lot of material above Jesenice and into TNP. Who will clean up after him one day? Or will it remain just a dump at two beautiful spots?

Majdag, I fully support that you remember every quarter and write something about this crow's nest. I hope this will lead to someone who should do it by official duty acting against this arbitrariness and stopping it. Of course he will charge restoration to original state at taxpayers' expense.

Is this gentleman still there on Triglav?

When we went up there this year everything was closed. Otherwise no more reports on this interesting guy although there used to be quite a few.

He's still at Morbegni... I've already seen him 2x this year. Maybe he went on some trip/supply or was somewhere nearby...

Hello, lots of debate about the bivouac, but I'm interested if it's possible to continue from the bivouac further south to the edge of Mežakla... no mention anywhere, but on one photo I noticed cables leading upwards from the bivouac... where does this end then?

Today my wife had errands in Jesenice, I used it to finally check out Žakelj bivouac. The path to the bivouac is incredibly arranged, almost everywhere walled with branches and logs so you can't get lost. I knew the access to the rock was not easy but the difficulty and exposure surprised me (especially the first gap with no bridge; if you have short legs you can't step over easily and must risk getting stuck on the other side; I wonder if Lojz will secure this part more; one can't marvel enough at how Lojz hauled it all up and assembled it there). Some time ago when we met Lojz's family at Jerebikovec, he mentioned it's possible from the bivouac to Mežakla. And indeed Lojz equipped a real little via ferrata up the rock from the bivouac, which is very demanding and exposed in the first few meters. So I tried. When the cables end after about 20 height meters, you then have to climb quite demanding pathless terrain. First along the rocky ridge, then through really steep forest where you need to traverse left and then climb up to the forest road. Without GPS with a topo map, with which I could constantly check the most favorable slope and where I would reach the forest road on Mežakla, I wouldn't have done it. When I reached the road the adventurous part ended, I went to Planski vrh past the natural bridge to Škrbina, then over Zakop to the valley.
We follow the markings.1
First we traverse to the left for a while, on the level.2
Then we must not miss the path that steeply branches off to the right upwards.3
The path is walled like this in the upper section.4
Soon we reach the foot of the cliff.5
Then along the exposed ledge.6
... to a good meter wide fissure that separates us from the footbridges.7
From the bivouac upwards a via ferrata is installed.8

3.5.2025 Mežakla
First we climbed up to the famous and much-described bivouac. About its appearance and everything else, a lot has already been written and I won't judge. But we all had the same opinion...zavijanje z očmi
From the bivouac onwards we climbed into the rock, which has some pegs and a fixed rope at the start. All this makes the ascent much easier. The last part to the overgrown promontory, which is unprotected, is quite crumbly. Considerable caution is needed. We decide to follow the ridge directly to the top. It's very steep, stones due to erosion are unstable. In between there's a section (cca. 20m) that needs to be climbed. The rock here is compact with lots of holds and footholds. The exit is also veeery steep. We didn't find any easier variants (didn't look for them either) and each of us carefully crawled to the end. We continue along the edge of the plateau and look with awe over the precipitous edge. We continue past Planski vrh, Natural Bridge to Škrbina. We take a break and then back to the junction. The descent towards Snežna jama follows, which we thoroughly check out. The descent to the cave is quite muddy and slippery. One also needs to be careful in the cave.
We continue to Planina Obrance and the next point is the take-off site. We rest and enjoy the view. The next point is Poljanska baba. From here finally down to the start. We parked the car shortly after the Lipce exit. So we avoided longer asphalt torment. On the way we drink well-deserved beer and after 7 hours conclude our ramble. It added up to 13km.
