Access to starting point:
a) From the Ljubljana - Koper motorway, we take the Razdrto exit, then continue driving on the old road towards Nova Gorica. After Razdrto the road starts to descend more steeply, and we follow it to the intersection where the road to Nanos branches off to the right. We take the mentioned road, then after the first sharp right turn we park in a suitable place at the next small intersection.
b) From the Nova Gorica - Razdrto expressway, we take the Vipava exit, then continue driving on the old road towards Razdrto; we drive on it for only a few kilometers, then the signs for Nanos direct us sharply left onto the ascending road. We take the mentioned road, then after the first sharp right turn we park in a suitable place at the next small intersection.
Route description:
From the starting point we turn onto a side road where we notice signs for Nanos and the hunting lodge. We walk a few meters along the mentioned road, then the markings direct us right onto a marked footpath that begins to ascend through the forest. A little higher we cross the asphalt road; when we step onto it the second time we continue along it across the expressway. On the other side of the expressway, which we cross right at the beginning of the tunnel, the road we are ascending on gradually turns right. We walk on asphalt to the end of the next switchback, then turn right onto a marked trail that higher up returns to the road.
When we step onto the road again we merely cross it (right further along the road - path across Brižnik) and continue ascending through low forest. Higher up the path leads us to an intermittent spring beside which there is a small vine. From the vine we continue ascending moderately for a short time, then reach the repeatedly mentioned asphalt road which we follow to the left. With occasional views of the Vipava hills and surroundings, the road leads us to the troughs and a sharp right turn in the middle of which the path from Vipava joins from the left and another path from Podnanos.
Here we continue right and follow the road to the next turn, then the markings direct us right onto a footpath along which we ascend somewhat more steeply. The well-marked path higher up returns to the road and leaves it again after a few minutes; a little higher it crosses it once more. The path ahead leads us past a large chapel visible from afar. A little above the chapel we reach a marked junction where we continue right uphill towards Vojkova koča past Strmec (left hunting lodge Vojkovo, right downhill Lozice).
The path ahead becomes quite steep and much less trodden but orientationally not particularly demanding. Higher up it leads us out of the forest and after a break completely levels out. Here we continue straight along a barely visible trail which after 2 more minutes of walking joins the well-trodden and marked path hunting lodge Vojkovo - Vojkova koča na Nanosu.
When we reach the mentioned path we follow it to the right (left to hunting lodge 10 minutes); it then leads us across grassy slopes occasionally overgrown with shrubs and individual pines. The easy and barely ascending path then joins the road for a short time but leaves it again after a few steps. The path then moves a little further right from the road and begins to ascend moderately across the increasingly scenic slopes of Nanos. Here an unmarked path joins from the right that branched off to the right a little lower. The path ahead becomes slightly steeper and after a few more minutes of walking leads us to the church of St. Hieronymus visible from afar.
From the church we continue slightly right along the path which a little higher is joined from the right by the gentle path from Razdrto. We continue towards Vojkova koča along the path that a few steps ahead leads to a less noticeable junction where an unmarked path to Grmada branches off to the left. We continue slightly right along the marked path which for quite some time ascends parallel to the road. The path ahead moves a little further right from the road and leads onto the scenic north-western edge of Nanos. Here the so-called Janezova pot joins almost imperceptibly from the right; we continue straight along the wide trail that leads us towards the transmitters on Nanos. Just before the transmitters the path turns left, descends into a belt of forest and then leads us past the monument to Janko Premrl Vojko to Vojkova koča na Nanosu.
Hrašče - Rebrnice 0:25, Rebrnice - Korito 0:20, Korito - Below the hunting lodge 0:25, Below the hunting lodge - junction east of the hunting lodge Vojkovo 0:20, junction east of the hunting lodge Vojkovo - St. Hieronymus 1:05, St. Hieronymus - Vojkova koča 0:35.
