Koča pri Savici - Planina Ovčarija

Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana-Jesenice motorway, take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and then towards Bohinjska Bistrica. Continue driving towards Lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where you reach a junction, from which you continue straight along the left (southern) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and the Savica Waterfall. Follow this increasingly narrow road to the large car park at the Savica Lodge. The car park is paid.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we head right in the direction of Black Lake, Hut at the Triglav Lakes and Zlatorog Hotel (straight Savica Waterfall and Dom on Komna). The trail initially leads along a gravel road that crosses the Savica River over a bridge. Just after the bridge, the signs for Komarča direct us left (straight Zlatorog Hotel) onto an initially still quite wide and relatively gentle forest path. The path soon begins to climb more steeply and brings us somewhat higher to a spot where the path to the source of the Savica and Velika Savica Cave branches off to the left, while we continue right along the increasingly steep path.
The well-maintained and relatively wide mountain trail soon transitions into very steep and slippery slopes of Komarča, where there is also a high risk of falling rocks. The trail ahead climbs steeply through the mostly forested wall of Komarča, where safety features, especially cables, assist us on the more difficult sections.
Higher up, some views towards Bohinj open from the path, and the trail brings us to a short technically demanding section, where with the aid of pegs and a cable we cross a gully that is otherwise not particularly exposed. The path continues to climb steeply for some time and, with the help of a few safety devices, brings us to the edge of Komarča, from where a beautiful view opens to our starting point. A short moderately steep ascent follows, after which the path begins to descend gently towards Black Lake, which we reach after less than five minutes of further walking.
Near the lake is a marked junction, where the path to Planina Viševnik and Pršivec branches off to the right, while we continue slightly left and proceed along the marked trail that bypasses Black Lake on its right side. On the other side of the lake, the path from Dom on Komna joins from the left, while we continue along a relatively gentle trail that runs along the edge of the Lopučniška Valley. Higher up, the path begins to climb moderately and brings us along the edge of overhanging cliffs to a small spring, which however dries up in dry periods.
We continue along the marked trail, which near Bela Skala turns sharply right and climbs steeply. A few minutes of steep ascent follow, after which the path levels out and brings us to a marked junction, where we continue right in the direction of Planina Ovčarija (left Hut at the Triglav Lakes, 15 minutes).
The path ahead descends gently and transitions into a short stretch of dense forest, which ends on the scenic grassy slopes known as Prodi. Here the path first ascends gently, then relatively steeply towards a beautiful viewpoint, where it levels out and turns left into the plateau-like terrain. A pleasant trail follows, along which with some shorter ascents and descents we arrive at the expansive Planina Ovčarija.
If we wish to reach the huts on the pasture, follow the signs for Planina Vogar and after approximately ten minutes of further walking arrive at the huts on Planina Ovčarija.
